One of the most asked questions i get is, how do you pass closed guard?. Most of the time my reply is passing is the easy part opening the dam. Guard is the pain in the butt.. So for this week atleast we will be looking into our ability to stand in the closed guard, keeping our balance and being able to open there guard... And stay on our feet. I wouldn’t belly down. That is where you get crushed. If you get that octopus grip the best option is to get your knee, that is closest to the opponent, in to the crotch for a sort of half butterfly, then take your far leg and get half guard, get a lockdown, then all you need to do is hip switch the opposite way and you can escape out to the back with a truck in place.

From the kesa type hip positions, he has to shift his hips back to neutral, giving time to lift your knee to block- is my guesss
