    Really succinct and clear explanation of why certain pentatonic scales work with the major chord. Can we extend this type of analysis to other scale degrees such as 2 Dorian etc.? Ah, sorry, you answered my question at the end. Thanks

    Hi Seth do you find with electric strings the strngs go out of tune quickly and do you recommend anything for them? thanks!

    • @sethlojo
      @sethlojo 2 дня назад

      @@gsnjpn I don't find electric strings to go out of tune more than acoustic. However, what I would recommend is stretching your strings when you put them on. Just pull on them stretch them out and then retune. Repeat that until pulling on them no longer makes them go out of tune. Hope that helps!

    I was learning 3 notes per string scales. Is it a wrong approach for a beginner?

    • @sethlojo
      @sethlojo 20 дней назад

      @@urkoshgood question. Here are my thoughts: 3 notes per string is usually not what I teach first because the 3NPS involve more finger stretches and are often more difficult for beginners. Also the 3NPS versions have more positions to remember (7) than the 5 positions I teach here. The advantage to 3NPS is that there are only 3 "moves" your fingers have to make: fingers 124, 134, 124 with a stretch between fingers 1 and 2. You'll eventually likely use both, so it's a good idea to learn both. Hope that helps!

    Thanks Seth, and once again, WELL DONE ! I love mixing in chromatic notes.......it gives your phrasing that nice floaty / dreamy feeling. Works in so many different styles of music....from Jazz, blues, classic rock, etc. From " Rock Around the Clock" , the solo in " Your Lost Little Girl" from The Doors, Jerry Garcia riffs, Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin, Wes Montgomery and so many others..... John Coltrane was a master at using them in jazz on the saxophone.
