    The bones are from when the cow has one in its mouth chewing on it as they do ( i have seen it 5 or 6 times with my own eyes) they drop it in the trough when they put there head down to drink

    How long did you do the job for? Would you do it again? We are thinking of taking off indefinitely but need to work a few months every year to keep us going until super kicks in.

      We did two seasons. We are planning on heading off again soon. The seasonal routine is perfect to spend Christmas back home with family.

    Lovely Ep and place, I was there last year for a few weeks I stayed with my mate, I found it very commercialised, My mate got permits and took me everywhere I found it very restricted where you could go and what you could do compared to Weipa and Cape York. Lovely place but.

    Nice video, you want to be careful of the goannas if they get a fright and there’s no trees to run up they will run up you !! I’ve seen 2 do this, one ran up. A guy and the other ran up a horses leg with a guy on it and the horse threw him. Nasty little beasties. Beautiful part of the AUs 👍

    What a fantastic way of life... you're a very lucky man! I grew up in the Zululand Bush on game reserves and farmed banas and avocados near the Kruger National Park for awhile. I really miss that life. Thanks for sharing mate!

      @@openroadtouring2410 It certainly is, being charged at close range by a hippo bull can get the heart pumping somewhat! Not to mention black mambas, the odd transiting leopard and escaped lions... We also had Nile crocs to consider. It made life interesting to say the least. I live and work from home on a horse farm next to a conservancy area now and see plains game and small predators daily now. Very fortunate to be here but miss the big game.

      The outback cattle stations are always looking for reliable people. There is a great Facebook group called Ringers From The Top End that advertise all the time.

    This is vanrook my partner and I mustered cattle there about 8 years ago but camped near a big dam used to come to the station for supplies and internet, phone great spot and people to work for.

    You could swim in those holes no worries. All the crocs you have shown in your video are Johnson River crocs, freshwater crocs. Not the man eater saltwater crocs. They are like 99.9% of snakes and they will trip over themselves trying to get out of your way. Ask the blackfellas, and they will tell you what I say is true. You're up that way, talk to the blackfellas, listen to them. They have lots to teach us.

    Assuming your tank is 80 litres for the ranger you had 1kay left how many litres did vehicle actually take before full?

      It took 81 litres. The tank obviously takes more than spec.

    Your fault mate, .... never blame the missus even if your're in a straight jacket. If Diesel you should ALWAYS fill up in the evening before camp or park up as this keeps humid air out of the diesel tank and it doesn't get condensate water appearing inside the tank as temp cools before dawn.

    You will generally have at least another 50km left after the distance to empty display indicates 0, depending on your driving style of course. Driving a Prado some years ago I got another 85km and that was fully loaded coming out of the desert.

      I had a Nissan Bluebird that had a really accurate fuel gauge. When the needle was on the E line, the tank was empty.

    Way back in the 1920s My father drilled for water on Kalyeeda and other stations( Nookanbar?) during the Dry Seasons, returning to SE Qld in the Wet. I think he worked thereabouts for 3 days. He named our Brisbane house "Kalyeeda".

    I ran out of fuel 20 + kms on the Eastern approach to Broken Hill . Massive headwind and my the chariot Landrover V8 County was just too thirsty . On dusk , managed to flag a vehicle. Had to get a cab back . Even 25yrs ago that was expensive. 🇦🇺👍🦘

      And being remote there are special tax zones that, in this case you would be in and would pay less tax. Not sure how much less as the ATO site isn't very user friendly and you can look it up if interested.

    My partner used to be a jackaroo late 60,70 he say the bore running job was always the best,no people just you and the the bush,cattle,an old land cruiser or Land Rover,the swag, the Billy, your got a good job there mate, if my partner was 20 years young he be out there in a flash.

    In the Country, they seem to rely a lot on assumed knowledge. They assume you will know, when a well-placed sign installed in a logical position and facing in a logical direction, would end the confusion.

    hi, its a land for men, you will be fine, i used to work on stations for holiday breaks, started as a ringer, ended up stockman, then up to bore repairs, then station manager after that i went back to engineering, loved the peace soul food, i learned so much out there even horse breaking lol, some harsh stuff as well, had a stockman open up on all of us with his lever action rifle lol, he was stupid drunk and we were all crashed in camp cots, it gave me the attitude ive carried through out life, it can and will be done. best wishes to you sir
