Phyconaut Water World
Добавлен 25 авг 2013
Phyconaut Water World is centered on the island of Bali, in Indonesia, in the heart of the Coral Triangle. Phyconaut 1 is the name of my small motor-sailing research vessel, which was being completed for launch at the same time as this channel started in June 2021. A “phyconaut” is also what I am … a sea person who has spent more than half a century roving global seashores in small boats as I explore and develop seaweed farming (phyconomy) and other mariculture opportunities with the fascinating people of coastal villages. I started in Nova Scotia, Canada, and I am ending in the Coral Triangle. This has been a fascinating voyage through life, and I hope that this channel will interest you as we share in a phyconaut lifestyle that you, too, may choose as part of your voyage through life.
Phyconomist journey Mandapam to Bali 2000 2022
A phyconomist’s journey from Mandapam Camp to Bali - twenty-two years and counting. My involvement in the Indian seaweed industry commenced in February 2000 and is continuing through 2022 as Sea6 expands seaweed processing and SeaCombine farming operations throughout the Bali Sea Region of Indonesia. This video presentation recalls some of the early work during 2000-2004; then gives an overview of current Sea6 operations in Indonesia before concluding with a call to action, as we seek collaborators to join us in our quest to (1) acquire affordable marine intelligence and get it to seaweed people and others who need it; and (2) use data to achieve sustainable coastal area development with ...

Infotech for seaweed faming in multibiomass ecoscapes
Просмотров 1872 года назад
In this video I am speaking about Information technology for seaweed farms in multibiomass production systems. Normally when I give a presentation like this, I finish with a call to action that leads nowhere. This time is different because I just launched into projects that are developing the marine IT systems we need and prototyping is commencing around Nusa Lembongan, Bali early in 2022. I ho...
Photosynthetic ecosystem services as a key to integrated coastal area management

“Photosynthetic ecosystem services as a key to integrated coastal area management” is a presentation I prepared for the Universitas Hasanuddin Top Scientist Webinar Series of November 2021. The central message is that a key function of Integrated Coastal Area Management (ICAM) is to optimize value from Ecosystem Services of Marine and Aquatic Photoautotrophs (ESMAP) in Socio-Ecological Producti...

It includes ten sections, namely: (1) Coral Triangle comparative advantages; (2) Market driven value chains; (3) The seaweed farmer constituency; (4) Adaptive phyconomy dominates; (5) Precision phyconomy evolving; (6) Sustainable ecoscape enterprises; (7) Phyconom...
TPCD3 TEN SEAWEED INDUSTRY LESSONS INDONESIA TO THE WORLD
Просмотров 6873 года назад
Cultivation of red seaweeds in Indonesia is an example of significant resource valorization based on simple technologies refined by famers in the sea. Industry development was initially driven in the 1960s by direct industrial demand as carrageenan processors made direct contact with coastal farmers in value chains with a “captive” governance model, that rapidly evolved through a “modular” mode...

Spira garvey dory farms seaweed in Bali Sea
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
This video describes the building of a Spira Puchie-Special garvey dory that is being used to tend seaweed farms of Sea Six Energy Indonesia in the Bali Sea region of Indonesia. This boat is known as SeaCotek 1 and it is being integrated into the SeaCombine technology systems of SeaCore farms. As built, the garvey dory was stretched ten percent in length to give LOA of 8 meters. It retained the...

I made this video as a plenary lecture contribution for MARSAVE 2020 … the Second Marine Resilience and Sustainable Development International Symposium scheduled as a virtual event hosted on October 10, 2020 by Hasanuddin University, Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It was my first attempt at making a video of this type so please excuse the rough s...

How I grow red Algae on my land
new to your channel and wanted to learn how to farm as well
what kind of ply are you using? Thank you
Used good quality plywood but not marine grade. This was impregnated with epoxy resin during construction and enclosed from both sides in epoxy fiberglass.
Good job Doc Iain.
Thanks Lee. We have a second boat of this type almost finished and a motor-sailer with hull design also by Spira, based on his Eleuthera sharpie design. I will do a video about that when I get time. It is used for survey and monitoring tasks.
Super video animations and very informative!
Thank you for the video. Very informative and good presentation.
Thankyou for this vidio
Long time no see . . .
I see that we are both still chasing the MUZE ... 😉

Good job. Keep it up
Thank you for answering. A very interesting system. I am considering starting an algae farm. Should that happen, I think I would like to buy one. The easiest system I have seen so far...
What do you call a planting machine? I see a net being filled with algae. Is that going into the sea, or coming out?
The first machine shows the crop being harvested ... the second machine shows it being planted.
These machines are part of the Sea6 in-house SeaCombine system. The image you refer to shows a planted tubenet ready to go back in the sea.
Thanks for this video of your build of Jeff Spira's Puchie Special garvey dory! I intend to build one! Please post more video about your further customization on your boat. I look forward to seeing them. All the best to you!
