Shalom Aleichem Thank you! I am a Christian, I live alone and this is the first actual Sabbath I have honored with Challah, wine and two candles. I hope I am honoring the Sabbath as much as possible. I played Shalom Aleichem, (by bim bam)) I LOVE IT. And played the Kiddush prayer while lighting the candles, and held the full wine glass in my hand meanwhile. I love the Lord, and I hope I am doing this right. Thank you for the info on Challah bread. I always like to learn. Shalom. G-d bless Israel.

Thank you for this teaching. As a Christian I am being more and more attracted to the teachings of the Torah. This year I went with my wife for the first time to Israel. I also discovered my Jewish heritage through DNA (I already suspected that). This is a blessing to us.

Jewishness is determined matrlineally, not by DNA. You may very well have Jews as ancestors. You'd have to have it traced to the women in your family. It may be that in another incarnation that you were a Jew which is why you feel a connection. That's not really traceable though is it? Blessings in your journey of discovery.

Do you put eggs in it, and top it with another egg mixed with olive oil & cinnamon? That makes it REALLY YUMMY!!! I don't put a drop of sugar in mine, but the cinnamon makes it both sweet and aromatic at the same time! Sugar is related to too many diseases, so I avoid it! The recommended is 4 eggs per 8 1/2 (I use 10) cups of flour, 1/2 cup Olive oil, 1 1/2 T yeast ; 1T salt; 2 1/2 c water (the recipe says less, but I use a little more, but NOT TOO MUCH or it becomes flat in the pan... I keep a L close-by & sprinkle until it is just perfect). 1st put all your wet ingredients together with the yeast & salt, & stir in. You can leave it a while to mature. Then your flour and stir in and knead. Let it rise overnight, then knead again, and into trays smeared with Olive oil (I don't use butter, or I can't eat it with meat; and Coconut oil gives me lumps under my skin, so I use Olive oil, basted with a brush). I use the same brush to baste the bop with the egg-oil-cinnamon mix, and even put some on the loaves I'm baking, also. Let them rise very well, and bake on low-heat for plus-minus 50min to an hour (my small gas oven requires just an hour. Too short & it's mushy; too long & it's dry/hard; just right & it's perfectly spongy & tastes like cake!).

The blessing (transliterated from Hebrew to English) is Baruch Ata Ado-na-y Elo-Hay-nu Melech HaOlam, Asher Kid'shanu Be'Mitzvotav Vetzivanu, Le'Hadlik Ner Shabbat. In English (Translation from Artscroll): Blessed are You, HaSHem our G-d, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with His commandments, and has commanded us to kindle the light of the Sabbath
