    Thank you for this! I'm a huge Harley Benton fan and have modded most of the guitars I've gotten from them (I do that to other brands, anyway). I'm not in the market for a 12 string but when I was, I almost bought that one. Glad I didn't. I ended up getting a Breedlove 12 string that is great, but I don't play it, so I'm selling it. My favorite HB guitars are the Fusions and the SC Custom III and SC550 II (although, had to do a bit of work on this one). For the prices, needing to do some work on the lower priced models isn't a big deal. But, the 3 higher priced models I have didn't need any work at all - other than tweaking the intonation. But, that's kinda normal on most guitars you get from anywhere.

Thanks for making the video. I got a couple KH guitars with bone breakers I'll be swapping out for 81's.

      Same body wood, same neck wood (Jackson is a thin 1pc, HB is a thicker 5pc), same scale length, same type of bridge, same nuts, both locking tuners. Same guitar setup (string height, pickup height). The VST I used was NeuralDSP Fortin NTS Suite with a mildly tweaked "Ola's Sevret Sauce" preset. Both guitars with the same settings. Tone as in frequencies, it's subtle. Tone in response (attack, response, depth) it's very noticeable.

    The only issue I have with Jackson is that its 6-string headstock is typically not the 3+3 (which has better straightness) Jackson is the only big brand that offer graphite reinforced neck cheaply, right?

    • @Teutonic_Shredder
      @Teutonic_Shredder 2 месяца назад

      True, I'm just happy that mine is a hardtail, a non locking trem would be a nightmare. Not sure if they are the only ones who offer reinforced necks, I remember Ibanez used KTS titanium rods on their cheaper guitars a few years back, not sure if it's still the case.

    Wintersun is sick. Some fantastic guitar playing in their tunes. Love it. COB is also awesome along with Sinergy. RIP Alexi! My fav brand is probably fender because a good chunk of my heroes play strats. Iron Maiden, SRV, Hendrix and Malmsteen. For shredding I am a Malmsteen nut. I have a YJM Strat and its sick to play. You can still get a nice high gain sound you just need to boost the signal with a tube screamer and it does the job. I have a couple Jacksons, one is Japanese from the early 2000s which is awesome. Has the EMGs and a great dark green finish. For my metal workhorse I actually use a Dean and a Tokai Love rock Zakk Wyle. Both loaded with EMGs and the Dean has an actual floyd so that thing stays in tune crazy well.

  • @ELITE815

    When I started out I was in love with Jackson, especially the Rhoads. For years I put off getting one because it was hard to find an affordable Rhoads that wasn't bolt on. Eventually I got one, then 2 then I went crazy and now own 10 Rhoads, 9 Soloist and 1 Dinky. I love the guitars but in the last 2 years I have moved over to headless and found a small Chinese builder who makes amazing guitars with great specs for way less than the big brands. After buying 2 guitars with them, I was able to convince them to build me a headless Rhoads guitar. My brand loyalty has shifted from Jackson to Acepro, they earned it. It also doesn't help that I have a buddy who works at fender who tells me all the dirt.

    • @fdadfas6624
      @fdadfas6624 2 месяца назад

      Just Googled this Acepro brand you speak of... LOL. They appear to be a poor man's guitar brand. Seems like you mainly purchase them from Ebay, Amazon, and AliExpress?! No thanks, I'll stick with quality, reputable brands such as Jackson, Ibanez, PRS, etc. If your money is tight then save up and buy a quality guitar and stop being a broke boy.

    • @ELITE815
      @ELITE815 2 месяца назад

      @@fdadfas6624 I've got lots of guitars from what you would call reputable brands. Believe it or not, this poor man's guitar brand has some of the best customer support anywhere. The guitars play wonderfully as well. The specs they offer are beyond what the big brands offer for the price. Using Jackson as an example, many of their $1000 guitars are in fact made in China. I myself own 3 USA made Jackson's and they in my opinion aren't worth the hype. I myself was very judgmental and refused to buy anything off of eBay or Aliexpress but as you implied, they are cheap. I figured $400 wouldn't hurt to at least try. Roasted ash body, roasted quartersawn maple reinforced neck, stainless steel frets and alnico V pickups are incredible value. Say what you will about them being cheap but I at least tried and have the first hand experience to actually give an opinion.

  • @subterraneanguitartech

    Cool riffs! I have been using my main 7 string as an "everything" guitar so I like the versatility of passive pickups for cleans and other classic tones. I'm tuned to B standard so I don't think it flubs out too much but my opinion may change as I experiment more. I also like not worrying about batteries. Putting some EQ/Boost/Compression at the front of the signal chain should be able to bridge the gap from passive to active, but I see the convenience of having it built in if you use your guitar primarily for fast heavy riffs. Some of my favorite 7 string players use active EMGs, so I may be tempted to try some eventually.

    • @Teutonic_Shredder
      @Teutonic_Shredder 2 месяца назад

      Thank you. Yes, you're correct. It is convenient to have an already voiced preamp built into a pickup. The battery life is good. It's like 3k hrs per battery if you unplug the guitar after usage. Not too bad. I change batteries once a year.

      Just a thing about the battery. I bought my guitar exactly a year ago and since then I haven't changed the battery yet. I have emg pickups and they last very long, I know other brand like fishman have a shorter life but still take months to die.

I got an 85/SLV/SLV set, but my next set will include an 81 for sure. I've got an HH strat that's probably next on the list for an EMG swap, and I'm not sure what to put in the neck position, an 85, or a 60, or maybe go 81/81.

      Maybe try the 89 in the neck. Got one of those and it is my favorite EMG neck pup. In humbucking mode it's an 85, in split mode it's an EMG SA.
