It takes a lot of patience and perseverance! This is how I did it: First, I put a drying rack just outside of his cage, which acted as little perches to get him comfortable coming out of the cage. after a couple of weekly sessions coming out to the drying rack, I put a little treat on the drying rack, and more nearby on my shoulder. After some hesitation, he landed on my shoulder! After a couple more weekly sessions having him come to my shoulder, I decided to try my hand. Again, I put a little on the drying rack to entice him, with the bulk of the treat in my hand. It just takes patience and persistence. He has to come on his terms! It will take some time, but keep at it!

It took a lot of patience and persistence. I started by putting treats just a little bit out of the cage on a drying rack (which acted like little perches). Every day I'd put more and more farther away, eventually leading to my hand. Whichever method you choose, try and do it consistently every day, and hopefully after several weeks your canary will learn to trust your hands!

Interesting! I wouldn't have thought to try a sock. Well, the way I did it was with a drying rack just outside his cage. I would put a little bit of a treat on the drying rack "perches," and have the bulk of the treat in my hand or on my shoulder. I wonder, with the sock, try cutting holes for your fingers and see if he might come then, and then eventually remove the sock. It's no guarantee, but just continue to be patient, and eventually he should realize that your hand is not a threat. The important thing is to never chase or pressure him! He'll eventually come on his terms. I actually have 2 parakeets now that I'm trying to convince to fly around a certain room, but they still hesitate. Patience for me too!

@@Smeave308 thanks a lot! after 5 days I got my canary, I cleaned his cage but when I was cleaning, he escaped. he was so fast that I didn't even have time to close the cage. when he got out, he hit himself on the window but luckily he is not harmed. he is all happy again. after a week I felt bad for him that he was in the cage. so I thought to get him out again! every day I slowly put my curtains away. I even put decorations on the window so he knows it's a window. after I slowly put the curtains away, he understands that its a window! he is free now and he is soo happy! I hope this works for you! oh and thanks for the tips

It takes a lot of patience, but if you have the time to train them, it's worth it! This was 10 years ago now, and we no longer have Pippin. We now have two parakeets that I'm working on training.

Ok? All canaries look different, not all yellow canaries are te same yellow, not all fancy canaries are the same colour, not all red factor canaries are completely red. They have different colours
