Experiencing No Self #3 Letting Go of Emotions
Last week we explored how to see thoughts as just thoughts arising and passing away without our consent or doing. This is the obsoletely key component of unfolding the no self process. In our dialogue, the topic of emotions, and in particular, difficult emotions, came up. I am adding a session that deals specifically with seeing the truth of emotions and the unfolding of no self.

    the subtitels are way of. For example, instead of "Pali" the software translated to "Poly," and worse, "Conciousness" is translated to "Content," and there are scores more. For beginners, this could be dangerously misleading. If this great master's dharma talk will be reproduced here the youtube statation owner should ensure correct subtitles. Thanks!

    An illusion shouldn’t be defined as something that’s not real or doesn’t exist. It’s something that really exists in one way, but is perceived in a different way. A mirage is a real physical phenomenon caused by heated air. The illusion happens when it’s perceived as something else, like water. From the absolute perspective, everything is illusory. From the relative perspective, it’s all real. They’re two sides of the same coin, and both are useful. Without the absolute perspective we will always be unsatisfied. Without the relative perspective we wouldn’t even survive. There is no right and no wrong, but right is right and wrong is wrong. -Seung Sahn Though the view should be as vast as the sky, keep your conduct as fine as barley flour. -Padmasambhava

  • @hansenmarc
    @hansenmarc 18 дней назад

    It seems like the initial awakening is about seeing that you aren’t the thoughts that arise in consciousness. A sense of self as the witness/consciousness/awareness itself often remains. Eventually, that sense of the self as pure awareness is seen to be just another arising in awareness. There is no separation between awareness and its contents.

  • @hansenmarc

    • @drmindfulness

      Hi, thank you for the question. The answer is a long story, and perhaps it is a legend. The Buddha's attendant was Anada, who reported having a super memory. The Buddha's talks were given in Pali, the common people's language at the time. Apparently, Anada remembered the talks and recited them to the council, and they were written down.

    I think everyone has experienced no ego or separate self many times, and it just wasn’t that big of a deal. If you’ve ever “lost yourself” in a book or a movie, or been “in the flow”, where it seemed like your body was on autopilot and was just doing its thing with no “you” controlling anything, then guess what. That was the experience of no separate self. Congratulations! On the flip side, make a mistake in front of an audience and you’ll quickly become very conscious of your self, i.e., self-conscious. Once you’ve seen that the sense of self comes and goes, it becomes easier and easier to see through the illusion.

    • @drmindfulness

      Thank you for the question. Lasting happiness is not possible when we believe in a separate self. As you say, it does not last forever, so we suffer. Sir, one of my friend whose relative is a monk says that one has to give up material life to attain nirvana/ moksha as the relationships lead to distraction Is it true?

    • @drmindfulness
      @drmindfulness 2 месяца назад

      This is a tricky question to answer. Most monks would have this perspective as they have given up material life. It would be difficult to say that it’s not necessary when you have already done it. I’ve lived with different groups of monks are quite familiar with their perspectives. There’s nothing wrong with this, it’s just the path that they took. It is not the only path. Is quite possible to have full realization and live lay person’s life. On this path, it is vital to continually examine one’s relationship to material possessions and material life. Is there a identification and attachment? Do we find our identity in certain relationships and activities? and this investigation gets even trickier as the ego will continually deceive us with regards to our relationship to material life. I hope you found this helpful. If you have any follow up questions, please feel free.

      This is a common misconception. Enjoying material possessions is not less spiritual. The question to investigate is whether or not you are attached to the material possessions.
