From Malta to Sydney, Australia - 1964
Просмотров 23 тыс.11 лет назад
There are two parts to this video. The first part was taken in late 1963 showing Father Dom departing his parish of Paula, Malta on a Qantas plane to Melbourne, Australia. The second part, taken in September 1964, documents the departure of Father Dom's sister and her family. The Mahoney family emigrated from Paula, Malta to Sydney on the Italian liner 'Flotta Lauro'.
Those were very heartbreaking days for thousands of Maltese families. During that era in the 50s & early 60s, when someone emigrated it was like that person died because the chances of returning was practically impossible.
This is the year my Nanu brought my nanna to Australia from Malta pregnant with my mum
Il vera in nies kienu ferhanin!

What great opportunities the Maltese were given, thanks to the Commonwealth! I wish I had them....
Wow what a video.... I have many relatives who have emigrated to Australia! Greetings from Malta!
Too much suffering I remember 1949 leaving Malta for Melbourne Australia never ending story ,there was no jobs in Malta except in the service or at docks or seamen ,stone work ,always if you can get one. standard of living you earn the money to eat low wage ,no social service.
made me cry Very sentimental film, I still remember those emotional scenes at the airport where people cried to see their loved ones depart, many of them never ever came back..... going to the airport was no holiday but a long goodbye... well done thanks
Bye Felicia
