"As the neighbourhood grew, so did their social network. St. Joseph Parish began to offer Mass in Portuguese. An engaged community attended service, carried old traditions, and celebrated festas for the patron saints. Beautiful processions took place around the city block that concluded at the church. Spectators would behold the wonderful events and receptions, with large gatherings followed at the parish hall.
An offshoot had assembled from the larger community out west...
