    The more you show people how to make these things, the more your products are devalued. One day you are going to realise this. I think you are making a big mistake.Unless of course you are not really making any coin with this and your income is really from your RUclips vids. I'm not trying to be rude, and appreciate your generosity, but most people are usually just sap suckers.Any mug can laser cut, but far less have the brains to design something. I wish you all the best though.

      Hey thanks for the comment and I completely understand the concern, I have thought about this concern but to me its not that big deal. Most people are not running a major business off these lasers, and even more probably don't live anywhere within my market reach. If they have the smarts to rip a design from a youtube video without having to create it themselves then good for them, but there have been others that just ask to buy the designs off me and in most cases I'm okay with that as well. I make my money off the customizations to the products, adding in special details that make each piece a one of a kind once complete. My Instagram #Plaidguysgarage and website Plaidguys.ca showcase some of the custom work I do as well.

    How do you assemble the layers together? Ca glue/super glue?

    • @plaidguysgarage
      @plaidguysgarage Год назад

      Depends on how many layers and how thin the contact points are. for items like the sunflower sign I use a spray adhesive but on other items I use super glue or wood glue. other factors are indoor or outdoor use.

    Note to anyone thinking of purchasing - the 40w module and the extension are not YET compatible. The 40w requires a different power cable and they haven't made one long enough for the extension yet and will not be available for several weeks. They don't tell you this, so I am sharing here.

    • @plaidguysgarage
      @plaidguysgarage Год назад

      Thanks for sharing! Another reason not to rush into this option. I'm sorry you had to find that out the hard way but thank you for sharing it with us! Do you you know what the maximum cutting dimensions are with the 40watt? Is it close to 360mm by 400mm ?

    • @sejimodevell
      @sejimodevell Год назад

      @@plaidguysgarage I started with the D1 Pro 10w (430mm x 400mm) and upgraded to the 40w (430mm x 348mm). So far, that hasn't been a problem, but I definitely have had to change what I thought was the "main work area" of the bed. Fortunately, with the extension (I have the extension, just waiting for the extension-length 40w cable) - I will get that space back and more-should end up around 430mm x 878mm.

    Would i be able to buy the module itself and add it to my cnc router with pwm?

    • @plaidguysgarage
      @plaidguysgarage Год назад

      This is a great question. You can buy any of the xTool laser modules individually for cheaper, You would probably need to build a custom mount to attach to your CNC since they use a slip lock system to attach it to the gantry. But I'm not sure how well the control signals would work for the laser. With the 40 watt module they do include a different processor which is interesting to know what's different with these boards (my guess is the added number of lasers needing to be controlled requires more pin outputs). You would to create a custom cable adaptor to use your CNC processor to connect to the pins on the module and you need to determine which pins control the lasers and which pins control the fans and provide the correct voltage to each. This is probably not public information from xtool so reverse engineering this would take some time. The last question is what software you use is compatible. If you just plan to connect the laser to dedicated POT PWM then you okay but you have to figure out the cabling. Overall I personally don't think its worth the effort. Best case is you are able to make a mount, you determine the GPIOs and the line voltages for each output and your pot pwm is able to send a useable signal, then finally you are able to provide the correct voltage to the laser module for the lasers and the fans. (all possible) but the worst case is you get the wiring wrong and damage the laser module before ever getting it working. Really depends on your comfort level of working with electronics and if its worth saving the $500 - $600

    • @weslow80
      @weslow80 Год назад

      @@plaidguysgarage awesome, great info. My main concern was the built in circuit board on the module itself. I'm worried it might be reliant on the other mainboard that I probably wouldn't be using. I'm building a cnc table with centroid acorn bob and teknic servos. I wanted this because of the capability, but maybe I would be better off getting a FoxAlien 20w to install on my table. The working area of the xtools are not big enough for what I want to be doing. Thanks for the response.

    • @plaidguysgarage
      @plaidguysgarage Год назад

      That sounds like its going to be awesome when you are done. I agree the Xtool area is limited, especially with the larger modules. I do have the expansion kit as well but that only extends 1 direction so you can only scale so much. But it has its place for creating certain types of products, so depending on what you are doing and what production level you are aiming for its a well rounded entry priced system. Let me know how your build goes! Id be interested in seeing it when its done.

    I currently run an Esty business and do local things. I find shipping materials are really my greatest cost and trying to buy boxes and fill for the larger items I make. Have you found any tips on your shipping materials for your larger items such as the bear and wolf?

    • @plaidguysgarage
      @plaidguysgarage Год назад

      Hey I honestly haven't done a lot of shipping yet as I am still setting up my online store (coming very soon!!) but I still have to package the items for hand deliveries so I have researched some options but shipping is a huge cost. I have looked at buying boxes in bulk but this is still expensive for the size of my items as its uncommon box sizes. I also need protective wrap to prevent breakage and scratching which at best is 30 cents / foot. So packaging and shipping on an item like the bear is like $10!! once you buy the shipping label. I have found companies like eshipper which buy shipping labels in bulk then resell at small margins so you can save %30 or more on the shipping label, but for packaging items like boxes and wrap I havent found a viable solution. Currently I just eat the cost but as I move to eCommerce that wont be a viable option. Email me at Plaidguysgarage@gmail.com and we can discus some possibilities

      Sure thing! The range of everything seen in the video spans from as low as $1 up to $50 I have received feedback from local markets that my prices are low on certain items so I may increase those specific items a few dollars but as I am new to this I'm trying to get a feel for the market. STAY TUNED! I just finished filming my company financial update for its first quarter and I go over the detailed costs and profits in that video. I havent even got good customer support thus far. Everything I have from Xtool has been fully purchased on my own and the reviews are honest. Even if I do get a product that is sent free someday Id still make sure my review is honest, if the company cant handle an honest review of pros and cons then its not worth having that tool from them anyways.

    How do you cut the multiple layers? What material are you using to make those signs?

    • @plaidguysgarage
      @plaidguysgarage Год назад

      Hey @Lorenzo the layers are cut individually then assembled. I used different types of material that are usually between 4mm and 6mm. These sheets are various types of plywood or compressed board. You could also do thick paper or cardboard but you lose the depth that you achieve with the wood. For the signs I used Oak wood planks that I made from fallen trees on my property.
