    I enjoy your work and noticed that HMS Centurion got a mention in this video. I hope you have plans to do her in a future video. Smaller than most pre-Dreadnoughts, Centurion and her sister ship Barfleur, had interesting careers.

    I'm looking forwards to you getting to the Duncan class, all built as a response to what the RN heard about the Russians were building and presumed was being built, they utterly outclassed the Russian ships. The Canopus class are a handsome ship though and you've got lovely models :) Great video as always.

    In the South Atlantic, Canopus’s chief engineer essentially went mad and falsely convinced everyone that her engines were crippled. This influenced Craddock’s decision to leave Canopus behind. The German armored cruisers outgunned Craddock’s ships, especially Monmouth which was a budget design. More importantly, Craddock’s ships were crewed by reservists who hadn’t had time to become effective while Von Spee’s ships were crewed by regulars.

    Wow, there’s a guy out there doing a history of pre-dreadnought battleships?! I’ve never subscribed so fast I don’t think, this is right up my street.

    The Canopu s class were also very fast for their day and IIRC they had some Krupp's armour on their main belt which allowed it to be thin but still roughly equivalent to the main belt on the Majestics.

    The Majestics and the preceeding Royal Sovereigns really broke the mold for RN BB construction as before it had been largely one or two off types of ships with only the older Admiral class being ones built in large numbers, but the Majestics were really the ones that, as you said, set the tone for RN naval design.

    I don't know anything about this class of battleship. I like that your going a little deeper in to the pre dreadnoughts. Most navel history goes Warrior to Majestic to dreadnought skipping everything in-between

    • @BarbettesAndBinnacles
      @BarbettesAndBinnacles 25 дней назад

      I think that’s likely because the Majestic and Canopus classes are pretty similar all things considered. But that’s just a theory.

    The great technological leaps of the 19th century are amazing. I am sure that these ships carried more than a few passengers born in the final years of the 18th century who had seen in their childhood wooden sailing ships which were (superficially at least) little different to those built a century or more before.

      I honestly feel like I generally get maritime history through the same lens. The German ships tend to be overshadowed by the British(and sometimes French and American ships). So it's refreshing to get to discuss the Kaiser.
