A true Crasher legend. I can actually remember him closing a set at something stupid like 7am (always one more) with this tune, PUSH - Strange World. I'm sure I remember something about him wanting to ban Crasher Kid toys (glow sticks, dummys, etc) or that may have been the club. Whatever it was, it didn't work. itwillalwaysbewithyou
Ultimately it was Simon Raine who wanted to move away from the cyber kids. He wanted the club to be edgy and cool again, the cybers really took over that place and it wasn’t what it was really about. (I was a cyber for a while) in 1997/1998 you had to turn up looking individual and like you’d put some effort in, the club was ace back then. Simon tired to “raine” things in 😉 and take GC down the Prog route. Cybers were definitely a liability, we didn’t exactly do things in moderation!! He once wouldn’t let me in unless I pulled the fridge magnets off my trousers 😂 We all just started going to passion until he got the whole prog thing out of his system.
Judging by the decor on that night and the time that tune was being played on dub; I have a funny feeling that I really was there. On that very night.
Happier times. Banging tunes. Less pretentious people. No phones. Nuff said.

98-99 were golden years for trance music and gatecrasher at the republic and both lotherton halls were class!!
Drove up from Cornwall many times for these nights, well worth the 6 hour trip every time! Never enjoyed the drive home the next morning though 🤣 still think about republic all the time...what I'd do for one last night there....
Wow I bet that drive home was fucking brutal mate . 😂... Absolutely loved that place as well I was fortunate to live in Sheffield from 98-03 and was there almost every wknd. I ended up moving to the south west for 16 years in 2005. Now back up north. But I still miss & often think about those epic times at Gatecrasher & RUclips helps me briefly relive it. Such an unbelievable experience it was like entering another world for 8 hours and the music was just outrageous. Trance peaked big time. Take me back!!! Itwillalwaysbewithyou. 🎶👌🏻

Great club visited once back in 2000 and went the to the summer sound system, but cream in Liverpool was right on my doorstep, 2 fantastic clubs now demolished I'm glad to have been to both especially right at the birth of the trance scene in late 1998 and right through 1999 some awesome tracks were made in that time.

Ah the Leeds drugs parade! Sorry, Love Parade! We got here about 9am and started on the ket, shortly followed by pills, coke, spliffs, base and some acid for good measure. What a surreal experience to be off your rocker but surrounded by members of the public. There was kids there with there parents, old people, just the most random crowd ever. Such a good day though, followed by an all nighter at Sundissential North in a different venue. Anyone remember what that was called? I can’t, unsurprisingly.

We were all from Preston, but we used to try and get to the Republic twice a month for years 99-05 and never once did we have a poor night. The energy and excitement that place created was the best club environment by a country mile back then and no doubt it would still be if it was today. Anyone that was a part of Gatecrasher simply knows how incredible it was.

Shame it burnt down alot of time and effort went into making a club I went one seb fontaine was on not keen would of loved to go when scott bond love his tunes or aly and fila went to 2 crasher necs though
Funny how it got burnt down straight after the smoking ban came in and that club was coincidentally unable to set up an outdoor smoking area. Not saying that it was ever an insurance job for legal reasons; it was totally an accident.
Gatecrasher was something else, and so was this tune Goldenscan - Halcyon. God how I love this tune
