With the former you'll feel airflow (χ; θ); not with the latter (κ; τ). DIPHTHONGS (αι, ει, ηι, οι, υι, and ωι are not true diphthongs; see above) αυ == α + β before voiced consonants, α + φ before voiceless consonants ευ == ε + β before voiced consonants, ε + φ before voiceless consonants ηυ == η + β before voiced consonants, η + φ before voiceless consonants Example: αὐτός sounds like "ahf-tows", not "ouw-tahs"
