Not impressed, not user friendly.
@gmick52, me, or the wikicamps app? If wikicamps, yep it could use improvements.
I've also found and added @digitalnomadsonebyte to the list of sites in the spreadsheet (see Description)
Also added @5youngtravellers
And @empty_nestadventures . SO many good channels to follow!
So many of our beautiful roadlife friends on there! ❤ Thanks for this list, we already follow alot but it was nice to see them in a list. Ill be through our backstory soon and more current stuff upcoming. If you love a breakdown story, we are your go to travel fam 😆 back of 9 tow trucks in 3 yrs in 2 vehicles both including catastrophic cross country tows on the same date 2 yrs in a row 😆😆
Sounds like a great story. I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos.
@@nomadsunplugged❤ thank you so much, same to you just subscribed!
@thecookievanaustralia, I've added you to the spreadsheet attached in the video description. Hopefully others can find you too!
Thanks for the shout out! We love finding new channels so thank you for sharing.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video. Looking forward to following your travels this year.
love you guys x
@ awww thanks ❤️
This is SO great! Thanks so much for such an informative and easy to follow tutorial. I now have all my filters set up and can't wait to use them!
Thanks so much Wendy. I’m glad you’ve not only found it informative, but have been able to put it to immediate use. Makes all the effort worthwhile!
Thanks so much for the mention. We are flattered 🙏🏻
You're welcome! I only discovered you guys while researching this video, and I'm looking forward to learning more.
@Beyond the Grey Oz is another worth following.
Yes i agree. Already follow them and loved their series along the Murray River. Didn't I mention them?
Hi @AdrianDouglas-gd6wn, I checked @beyondthegreyoz, and I have included them in this video as one I'm looking forward to following (again) this year).
@bradangeadventures
Thanks for letting me know @bradangeadventures. I've added you to the spreadsheet and will take a look at your channel. Thanks!
@@nomadsunplugged Thank you, we a very new to this.😃
How do I find / transfer all my "lists" over to the new wiki
Hi @petaroffey286, what do you mean by your lists? I no longer have access to the old system, and don't recall any lists other than trips.
Thanks for the big wrap! We are flattered to be one of your favourites amongst some huge names there!
No worries. You two are my dream situation!
And jut to add… I was very happy when you ‘progressed’ from your short videos to the more details longer one a few years ago. And you inspired me to book Mundi Mundi this year! Now I’ve just got to buy a beach cart, loud shirts, and a lighting setup.
@@nomadsunpluggedYou will love Mundi 💃
I first bought wiki when it was $2. We used it every day for years of travelling.. it was brilliant. Now.. well i just give up.. its not useable at all. I have been lucky in the fact my ipad didnt update automatically and my old version is still working so far….but my phone version on android.. is unusable. We just bought camps Australia map book 2024 edition.
It sounds like you've made the right call with the printed guide. Hopefully, WikiCamps will get back to basics soon.
Thanks andrew very comprehensive. Is there a way to change your prgress colour on your map
Thanks Colin. There’s no way that I can see to change the progress colour. In the old version, the rout you had already travelled was a different colour to the route still to go, but it looks like it’s all the same colour now. Another shortcoming of the upgrade!
Thanks Andrew yet another informative instructional video. Something I’ve noticed, when I’m using Wiki and I’m reviewing a trip I’ve set up, if I open a campsite/caravan park, by flicking the site to the left Wiki now automatically takes me to my next saved ‘item’ on my trip list. This saves me from closing that particular site and clicking on the next site on the map etc etc. I find this quite helpful when reviewing a trip I’ve set up to remind me of sites and items of interest. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again
Great discovery Ross. I’ve tried it, and it does make it much easier to ‘progress’ through a Trip site by site.
We always used Wiki but it became very slow and clunky so we changed to camps Australia
How your experience with camps Australia? I'm going to have to do some comparisons as wiki is still messing up routes and is still, as you found , slow.
I miss the heart shaped ‘liked’ selections.
Yes you're not alone! Having the hearts mixed amongst other sites was a great feature that I hope they restore.
Andrew thank you for another great video. Like you I was not impressed at first with the new Wiki but after have used it for a while I have started to come around. Sure there are some things missing from the last version but I am confident these will be added back as more users give constructive comments. Like many I am handing out for the pin drop to return. Once again thank you for your videos they are most helpful, filters is one area I have not mastered yet.
I agree, it takes a while to get used to and like the changes. I noticed they made a few improvements, but the list is still long...
Great video thanks. Doesn’t seem to be any chapters set up though.
Thanks for the heads-up. I'll try to figure out why!
You're right, I'll add some chapters. Hopefully, it'll make it easier to find the section you're looking for.
More than happy to watch and comment x
Hi Ruth, I'd appreciate any feedback on this one...ruclips.net/video/-R1Hd_TATCo/видео.html Thank so much. Andrew
Hopefully ill get back to you with comments tomorrow, regards, Ruth
@@nomadsunplugged Hi Andrew, I loved this one. I am not a filter user, as I am a bit afraid of tech stuff, but this was so easy to watch and you have made it look so simple, that it has given me the confidence to give it a go. We go to Tassie for 8 weeks next week, so I will be putting in some filters which will make it easier when finding exactly what we are needing! Thanks again.
Thanks Ruth. Have a great time in Tassie!
WikiCamps should promote your tutorials, they are so easy to follow. Thanks heaps Andrew
Thanks Ruth. I'm not sure if my comments like "oh.. another bug " would be the sort of stuff they would want to share, but I'd be happy if they did share them if it helped more people. I'm working on another video that might not be so easy to follow. I'll ping you when it's released as I'd appreciate your feedback, if that's ok?
Again you have highlighted how useful a PC would be in planning a trip which I know many of us used to do. Trying to plan on a phone screen is awful. iPad looks to be the way to go. Thanks for a very informative tutorial.
Must admit I avoid the smartphone version, but it is useful for finding the next nights local things to do. I'll try to plan a complete trip and see if it is as bad as I assume it will be (and as you've found).
Thanks so much for this. I don't usually struggle with technology and have created apps myself for various business/volunteer organisations. However, the new Wikicamps has left me speechless and contacting Wikicamps for some assistance was not exactly that helpful. Watching this has shown that the optimum device for using the app is iPad rather than mobile, as the larger view makes sense of some things I can't manage on a mobile - which is strange considering the PC has been rendered old school and no longer considered as a device. Your video is very helpful and enlightening.
Thanks Vicki. Hopefully their next release......?
Surely, there has to be a better app, or website than this. Complicated and klunky. Wasted my money
I'm planning on doing a comparison of other apps. Hoping to find something more user friendly, but still with the same amount of information.
Hi, when you add a place to the "like collection " can the heart be shown on the map, and how can you see the all the sites added to the collection? Thanks.
Hi Bob, unfortunately the hearts icon seems to be one useful feature that has disappeared. you can fund your liked sites by using the filters - I've done a youtube video on that topic, and the first example I use is exactly that one.
Bluetti- worst power station on the market.
Had a bad experience? What's the best?
Bloody brilliant!!! Thanks so much for this, so glad I stumbled across this very informative video 😃👍
Glad you found it helpful. I'm working on another post now on how to get the best out of the wikicamps filters. Might help too.
Mate I like your video but very hard to hear you
Sorry about that. I've invested in a couple of wireless clip on microphones since I did most of this video. I looked at increasing the columns on the outdoor stuff, but the background hum gets to loud. I'll do better next time. Thanks for the feedback!
It’s good that he is hard to hear because he is speaking about perhaps the worst power station on the market Bluetti. Known for a high DOA and equally poor customer service. Hopefully if you go out camping you aren’t relying on that to keep your food at a food safe temperature.
I has taken all of my old history after several years of save info 😢😢🤬🤬🤬🤬
This is terrible flatlander. I have noticed that the longest trip is now 499 'sites'. Has it taken your history because you had it all in one 'trip'? Or have you lost all your old trips?
Lost almy love hated sites
@flatlander6124 , it kept my loved sites (I didn't have many), and I didn't have any hated sites. Are your loved/hated appearing now?
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I found this very helpful to fine tune some of the trip planning issues i was having.
Glad it was helpful!
A great informative video. After completing the trip planner, how can you implement a turn by turn direction while driving? Thanks.
Great suggestion! I think you're getting into the realms of Google or Apple Maps now. I know you can click through to mapping software for a specific location, but not for a whole route/trip.
Discovered if to go to the route list select the location during the route or the final destination hit the icon and you can then select google maps, tom tom etc. For the directions. Hope that makes sense.
Total crap now. So unnecessarily complicated to do anything.
I think they should have done a beta release to a small group, so they could iron out ALL the bugs, but also get feedback on how people use wikicamps. Because it is much more complicated, and therefore you get so confused you don't notice the good stuff they've included.
Whats the difference between free and paid app?
Good question Geoff. I've probably been misleading, as... as far as I'm aware, you have to pay to get the App, so the difference is access to the App, or not.
Yes, many thanks. I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the "Updated" version - thought it was going to be Even Better - but NO WAY. I LOVED the old WIKICAMPS .......
From a user perspective, it was just great. They have added a bit of user functionality, but the driver looks to have been a desire to create revenue opportunities 🤔.
Another great video. Very informative. Wikicamps should employ you in their testing team, and to produce these tutorials for the uneducated, impatient multitudes
Thanks so much. Happy to help! I'm guessing WikiCamps don't have a very big testing budget! :)
Great job, thank you so far. By the way, I just moved the Mundi Mundi camp sign to its proper position. It just took me 4 approaches 😅
That is awesome! Thank you!
How did you move it? I just checked and you've placed it in the exact correct position. Brilliant
@@nomadsunplugged just by try and error😀. It‘s a pity that you can’t change into satellite mode when positioning the sign. So I switched back and forth between explore-satellite and sign-positioning mode view and always tried to figure out how much I still had to move the sign😂. Regards from Switzerland 🇨🇭 🙋🏼♂️
@@timeoutinaustralia2152 love it! Well done.
Thank you for once again highlighting the many bugs in the new WikiCamps app and giving us workarounds for some of them. Hopefully the developers are listening and repairing what was once a great tool for trip planning.
Thanks Julian. One of my hopes is that they do review these videos and check the comments. I think their issue will be in prioritising the fixes!
That's all good if you have an Ipad, but if you have windows or android its a different story, just dose not work like this
I'll take a look. Thanks for the heads up.
Hi Mal, I've played around with the app on my Android phone. It looks to work very much the same as the ipad version, with the exception that the various buttons are positioned on the bottom and top of the screen. I'll try windows next.
Very welcome instruction Andrew - thanks. Its a shame the quality of this software is barely beta yet they have the audacity to charge - the amount is irrelevant, the software is riddled with bugs, bad design choices and ...I'll shut up. I was wondering, when you were offline, could you zoom in and see satellite maps in detail?
Thanks Miniluv. Great question! It's something I missed trying. Just have it a go, and NO I cannot get a satellite view when offline. That's not good! How do you see which hidden trail to take when you're in the middle of nowhere and the exact location of the site isn't clear? Major shortcoming.
Well done 👍
Thank you 👍
Thanks again Andrew you are a life saver!
Thanks Ross. You've made my day!
It's not possible to select pubs/hotels without selecting campgrounds, so you end up with a page full of campground icons with no way of knowing which are pubs and which are not. Pubs could have their own icon, surely.
Hi Perry, If you create a Saved Filter with the following settings: Campground (the only Site Type you select), and under Amenities choose "Pub/Hotel", then Save Filters (you'll have to name your Filter). This should result in a page of campsites that are also Pubs (I did notice a Sports Club in the results). Alternatively, just Filter as above and click "Show Results". If you travel with a caravan, you could filter it further by selecting "Caravan Accessible" under the Access Site Feature. Hope that helps! Andrew.
Hi Andrew. But which ones of all these campgrounds icons are pubs? You have to explore each one to find out when a different icon would make life easier.
True
Thanks for sharing. I hope to do this ride next year. Have to say I had trouble hearing many parts of your commentary due to background noise (and my deficient hearing) but I persisted. I was surprised to see so many people on the trial, was it the weekend?
Hi Anton. Firstly - apologies for the sound. It was one of my first videos, and I often had the camera resting on handlebar, which created a terrible rattle. I'll do better next time! Yes it was the weekend, and it was also school holidays (in either Qld or NSW - can't remember which). However, I never felt crowded, and their wasn't much overtaking or being overtaken. It did get a little hairy in the tunnel as some people didn't have lights. Enjoy. It's a great rail trail.
Fabulous, thank you for taking the time to do this video for the community
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it.
Agree with all your comments, I have been using wiki for 8 years and very happy with the old version, I was halfway through planning my trip next March Perth to Townsville when I had the misfortune to update the app on the iPad, as per previous comments if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, my current work around was to not update my iPhone with the old version to help me complete my plan, I used the old version on the iPhone to try and decipher the gobbly gook of the new, of interest my laptop is still working on the old version hopefully till I get my trip done, keep up the good work, let’s hope the boffins who have ruined a great program sort it out, regards Tony
Andrew, Thank you for your tutorial on the new Wiki Camps version, which has me totally frustrated! Why they brought this version out, when it is obviously no where near finished, beggars belief. I understand that progress happens and is a fact of life, but to completely, yes completely, ruin an app that was used by many people, and lovingly spoken about around camp fires etc, to be a totally frustrating version is just plain stupidity. I look forward to your future clips on this subject as you are able to explain and show how it works in a very informative and easily understood manner . Thank you Ross
Hi Ross, here’s my theory…. They had a fixed budget for the development. They spent (or overspent) their budget. Management decided to just put it out and manage the issues through their BAU team (which would have been supporting the old version had they not upgraded, so no additional cash cost). The risk to them is that the issues are SO big, and so many of them, that fixing takes more resources than available in their BAU team, or takes far longer than their customer’s (remember us?) will put up with, so it ends up costing them a lot more, or it destroys their customer base.
Agree with you re: loss of trips. Also, in the old version, when you clicked on a site, it gave you a distance from you. Now you have to click on Google Maps or another external link/program to work out how far away that place is.
You’re absolutely right, and I’d forgotten about that feature. Most useful to me when two sites have the same or similar names, and I’d use the km from me to figure out which site was in which location.
Liked the old version this is a backward step, not well thought out.
Agree wholeheartedly. But I'm hopeful!
When i was driving along i cd click on a location and it wd show up my distance from it, this doesnt show up anymore, v annoying
You are right, and it was a really useful Feature. One workaround (not nearly as simple as the old version) is to Click on a Site, then go into the Details page (click on the photo), then scroll down and click on "Get Directions" and link through to mapping software - that will show you the distance from your current location.
Another “new problem” is the freezing on launch where the cartoon mountains keep scrolling until an error message says “failed to download “ - found a workaround where you switch off wi-fi and launch using mobile data only. Another problem we don’t need.
Interesting! I haven't experienced this one yet. I have experienced really long delays when adding a site to a Trip, and when opening a map offline. I certainly think their problems are not purely coding issues - maybe some technical infrastructure problems too.
Hi Andrew thanks for the tutorial you have helped solve a few of my issues however I really do miss the Drop Pin whilst doing our lap. I really hope they bring this feature back
You're very welcome. Tell me more about your use of the drop pin Madonna. Is it to mark a location that you want to save but not add to the Wikicamps database of sites?
Regarding adding sites to a trip. The pre4vious version only allowed you to add a site to the current active trip (you had to select the trip first). In the new version, the list of trips shown when you add to trip looks to be the most recent trips (or at least in my case as I have around 20 trips but the most recent 5 were shown). I never used the weather report within the app. I prefer to use dedicated weather apps.
Yeah you're right. The 'old' way would be an improvement if you can't select the right trip to add a site too. I didn't use the weather info either, but it seems some people do miss it.
