Making a medieval Gown for men or women
As someone that sails a 13 foot dinghy and wants to do some medieval camping with boating, I was very happy to see you two using a canoe!
@@aNaturalist yah the canoes aren't authentic to the period but they did spend time in boats and the gear works well in them
I'm confused. How wealthy is this person in mediaeval times? Which country?
@@Rachel-h3n the recipe book would be for someone who was pretty wealthy. I think this recipe was from France or Italy. Can't recall off hand.
@@HandmadeRevolution416 ok, that makes sense. Definitely flexing wealth with those spices etc.
😂The one at the end is how I tie my hair up at night for bed. Only difference is I use a 100% silk satin scarf because I am African American and linen is far too drying for my hair.
@@lunamequa yah absolutely. Linen is much rougher than silk too. Wouldn't be good for frizz.
@@HandmadeRevolution416 I never thought about frizz. Thanks I learned something else.
Do you make your own oilcloth?
@@victoriarosesimons6449 no I bought it from tentsmiths I believe
May I ask the measurements of your head wrap? I keep trying to make one, but can't figure out the specs. 😭
@@Shahrezad1 absolutely. I cut a yard and a half of fabric on the diagonal and then round out and shorten the triangle at the bottom. It's not am even triangle but it doesn't matter and you get two mirrored headscarfs out of a yard and a half of fabric on the bias. I recommend handcherchief weight linen. The bias makes it stretchy and comfy so it ties better and stays on better. And the narrow ends make great ties
Is the outfit in the center so that you can change into it, or because it just makes everything easier to carry? (In case if you just sleep in a shift. 🤷🏻♀️)
@@Shahrezad1 both potentially. It's often pretty cold at night so I often end up wearing it
Those basket back pals are absolutely incredible, I need to make one
@@jackthompson1377 I got this one one Etsy from Poland. It's held up really well
What causes the casting skin? Is it actually plaster or wax or the gold reacting with the plaster? Such a gorgeous ring!
@@TaliaOutwrong thank you! It is a thin layer of fine metal ( not alloyed) brought up to the surface by the heating process
Literally making a dyer’s card for my living history group’s next event right now 😅
@@o.mcneely4424 fabulous!
They had bigger bathouses than I got a bathroom 😂
@@bjrkah1941 lol me too
Interesting
It looks really comfy. Love to have one of those as well
I think people underestimate the human instinct to look ✨pretty✨. Any period piece with lots of color gets an A+, regardless of the content from me
Those look lovely! Your friend is very lucky!
I love seeing women who study swordsmanship!!! New goal: lear to use a sword
Head wrap looks great, and the lipgloss is cute too!
@@TaliaOutwrong I forgot to bring it with me and had such chapped lips so I got... Creative 😂
The bread must have been delicious

Yes i agree Trump 2024. Make freedome great again.
very informative... thanks so much!
Do you happen to have the recipes/sources used? Particularly for that pie

Beautiful!😁
Is it true that cow's milk was quite rare until the High Middle Ages? I read that it was mostly cultivated in wealthy monasteries.
@@seloslav I haven't heard that it was especially rare but generally it wouldn't stay good for very long so I think it was more commonly used as cheese etc
I just want to say that I LOVE all your stuff and you are such an inspiration!
@@AnachronisticArmory569 thanks so much ☺️
Never have I been more disappointed to live in BC. Wish I could come check out all the cool shiny things, but alas, I do not know how to teleport. Hope you and everyone who can get there have a great time ❤❤❤

@@August_Mannaz thanks! Yes definitely one of my great passions
Good for you
Wonderful inspiration! We borrowed your idea for "Deed of Service" in Tulsa Oklahoma to raise money and awareness for Veteran's issues at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 577
That's awesome! I am glad this idea is spreading.
Such a thoughtful and thought provoking 1 minute video. Thanks for making it!
Can you make a video on how you make these gorgeous buckles?
That's really cool, do you know when and where the original was from?

@@HandmadeRevolution416 dmn. It would take me 11 days to be there by foot.. wont get that mich days off
You make the most excellent buckles.
don't buckle under the pressure!
😂
you look like a possessed lady in a horror movie (also nice buckles)
Thank you for the ASMR! 😁 Buckle ASMR works for me! The buckles are beautiful, btw.
Glad you like it. Most asmr drives me insane but the clunky metal sounds I enjoy
@@HandmadeRevolution416 yeah, I am not into ASMR at all, but I did like this! 😁

Thanks you ❤
These are so beautiful. I am using a hedgehog in my heraldic arms. What a beautiful way to carry their heraldry.
Thank you so much! Glad you like them. I've definitely made a few custom animals as well
Stunning
I'd be too ill in the Medievals Periods. No thanks.
Some interesting.
How do you attach the belt ends? Are there rivets? Recently bought parts and am learning to make my own medieval belt but I didn’t realize it would be different than modern belts when it came to attaching it
Yes they are riveted. If you scroll through my longer videos I have one on riveting.
@@HandmadeRevolution416 awesome thanks!
Relatable
People tend to look back at history and think everybody was just these creatures with vague sense of conscious. When in reality they were no real different to us emotionally and intelligence wise
Absolutely. This is so important
Only royalty could use purple
Murex purple and wine red were only available to royalty but there were other lighter purples and mauves that were generally available.
Purpure is what was banned, but that name refers specifically to the Murex snail dye already mentioned. If you look at medieval art, there’s an awful lot of people wearing shades of lilac, mauve, etc.
Thank you for letting me know. I didn’t even think of different shades
Poor people of course colored their cloth, but only with some natural dyes (like flowers or grass or tree bark) but those was giving a little range of colors. Combining color is only for rich...
You can achieve a surprising amount of color variation with just common natural dyes.
@@konaonpalannut9723 yeah... But not much of them is easy to find
In medieval Europe you had a variety of natural dyes, all with varying degrees of color fastness, but as long as you had weld, woad, madder (all common weeds) and some iron rust or copper, you had a literal rainbow of options.
LOL you're giving shit to the artist for depicting asymmetrical purse weights and when you try to make them you broke a bunch of blades and had a lot of trouble....I say that's irony! :D. Great work!
