In 2020, the NTA (Irish National Transport Authority) allocated €9.99m to Limerick City and County Council for cycling and walking projects under the COVID-19 July Jobs Stimulus Plan. €1.2m was allocated to St. Nessan's Rd. This video shows how the money was spent.

Safe cycle routes don't just consist of segregated cycle lanes. In Limerick we could use some of the infrastructure that already exists (ie: roads) to quickly build safe cycle routes if Limerick Council and the NTA were genuinely motivated to grow the modal share of cycling in the city.

Do you think the surface will stay smooth over the years? I find that most cycling lanes around the country get very bumpy quick. No proper underlayer.

Fantastic effort by the council. This will ensure that people will find driving to be most convenient.
Pity they couldn't tunnel under or bridge for each junction for free flowing but would cost a fortune. Nice video.

Coming from the Rathkeale end, just off the N21. Come down the slip road, straight through the roundabout and it's on your right, at the old station house. From the Newcastle West end, go onto station road. Coming from the Desmond College end, take the second right and straight through the roundabout, it's on the left, at the end of the road. When coming from the Churchtown end, Ballintemple Inn, it's first left, past the start of the Greenway.

In fairness, the track has been resurfaced for accessability for all groups, and we have already had complaints about people cycling too fast and nearly running into people. It's not for the road cyclists and I think you were going to fast. at the very start of your journey you almost ran into that small child.

You forgot to do the other side Leo, they've widened the cycle lane but I dont believe its finished, but then again even the local cllrs werent privy to the plans so who's to say what stage of the project they are at
Unfortunately I don't think I ever recorded an outbound trip
I'd never think of taking South Circular into town, as less likely to be close passed on the main route with the shared bus /cycle path as far as punches
I always go this route. Much quieter, always take the lane where it's narrow, never have an issue with passing motor traffic.
@@leodillon2393 so why whinge so much about it and contra flow? There is clearly not enough space for a contra flow bicycle lane. Whinge bag

A great solution to keep cyclist safe. Car drivers need to realise that the road is not only for motor vehicles. Less cars less accidents. Less lives lost
Sorry for very very late reply. The design layout should enforce what is expected of users rather than solely relying of everyone to know the rules. Dutch roundabout design works but while this one may look Dutch, the basic layout is wrong and puts cyclists at risk.
