This is one of gem in world cenimas..and one 100sof best world cenimas...UR ananthmurthy sir,.girish karnad sir,true legend..but KFI sucks after 1990.....now KFI should open its eyes about art cenimas instead of bundle national waste mass commercial films.... especially telugu worthless mass films ,item songs..bundle mass hero's shame on KFI ... selfishness KFI....

Strange that not enough was mentioned about Singeetham Srinivasa Rao who was the Executive Director of Samskaaraa. Girish Karnad (with due respect to this genius) appeared to have claimed a little more than what he contributed.

Today, I relived my experience of my youth as I remember the movie that I saw in 1971. The movie was such a sensation, that it was the talk of the town. The movie screened at States theatre in Bengaluru was a mega hit.

Uniq movie

it is a movie made by a eco system which hate Brahminism in particular and Hinduism in general. I being a brahmin have never seen in the society/community this kind of bad practices by any single person/that too a community leader (the main character of this story acted by Giresh Karnad) .. from where URA got this imagination of hypothetically hypothetical story . The ecosystem was so beautifully established for past several decades that Brahmins are the people who liked this and awarded this more than anybody else!

Snehalatha Reddy , Chandri of this movie was the first victim of emergency of Indira gandhi. A social activist too, a Lohiyait, Smt Reddy was arrested under Baroda dynamite case , and imprisoned with out charges for 8 months in jail ,tortured, for her association with George Fernandez , finally released when she was dying . She died on jan 24th 1977. Wiki pedia has a detailed ac of that famous episode.

Just finished watching Samskara. What a riveting movie!

What a beautiful movie in those days Modern movies are mostly useless!!!

Nice movie

It it is not near to reality, such a confusion or conflict no ever happened those days. It is the imagination and contradiction of the author to target Brahmanism came out as a movie . Got national awards bcz targeting Brahmanism. Same author who lived against the boundaries of Brahmanism wanted his antya samskara to by conducted by Madhwa brahmins as per Madwa sampradaya ( he had informed his family members regarding this and accordingly it was done ). His dual characters is nicely portryed in Novel "Avarana"

it is a powerful movie. but i think the ethics of how it was made is questionable. there was a lot of misleading and misdirection involved in making this. in contrast, the book is more thought provocative and more nuance.

I'm a student of English literature... Samskara is best novel...now it comes to me that it is too a superb film..... Outstanding acting of Girish Karnard who played the role of Swami's father in R K Narayan's Malgudi Days.....I have read his two novels Hayavadana and Tughlaq.... great author as well as great actor

Absolutely exaggerated movie... Not close to reality at all... Maybe unfortunately ur ananthmurthy had some psycho issues developed from his childhood and ended up writing only prejudiced, society breaking stories like this... Or maybe he faced issues in marrying a Christian..at a time when all religious and castes were equally protective about marriages..

ನನಗೆ ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಕಾರ್ನಾಡ್ ಅಂದರೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಇಷ್ಟ. ಅವರ ಧ್ವನಿ ತುಂಬಾನೆ ಇಷ್ಟ.
