Seems like a nice lady although slightly arrogant. It's certainly true she was robbed in '86. No small town mayor no matter how good could have competed with someone as notable as Clint Eastwood. It's clear he only ran out of spite after being refused planning permission as he only stayed for 2 years. I'm sure many other people would do the same thing to their mayor if they had the notoriety. Did Charlotte ever try to get her job back after Clint packed up?
Charlotte Townsend didn't run for mayor or council again after 1986, but she has remained active in town life and politics since then.
@@CarmelLibrary That's a shame. Was she put off by the whole spectacle that happened or did she intend to retire as Mayor in 1988 regardless anyway?
@@Fireglo That I can't say for sure. If she had won in 1986, she might have run again in 1988. But from the experience of other politicians I know, it's very difficult to go back to a position that you've been rejected for, especially if you've found other work and other causes in the meantime.
Those were the days...when water wasn't in short supply! ARGH. Looks like great community fun.
