Harley Galfer Rotors - Trash
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 года назад
Backstory: I sent this video, unlisted, to Galfer Tech support a while back after the rotors were absolutely flogged out in less then 1200 miles. Out of the box they had a huge amount of play, which when questioned, was told was normal. After 1200 miles or so, the play was SIGNIFICANTLY worse. A few local guys had Galfers that were tight as a drum, no play whatsoever, so I consulted the Galfer ...
How to wire a (Carb'd) Harley Twin Cam motor (Pros and cons of stand-alone vs OEM style)
Просмотров 11 тыс.2 года назад
Just a quick and dirty video covering two of the ways you can wire up a carb'd Twin Cam motor, and some of the pro's and cons. In this instance, its for a Twin Cam swapped FXR, but applies to any TC build or swap really. As mentioned, when I got into it, I couldnt find much showing how easily you could run the more superior system. I was put off a little by the wiring diagrams and all the senso...

These are just sealed bearing 13 spoke mags. Come in a range of colours and on a range of model designations, sportsters, dynas etc. Tyres are just whatever came stock on them I think!
Okay thanks
Does this kit come with cam plate?
@@cruzyd negative. You could op to buy one, but why would you?
@ to be honest, I’m not quite sure exactly what all is necessary or unnecessary when installing an upgraded cam! Just trying research and make sure I get everything I need and nothing I don’t Currently stage 1 with bassani exhaust and canned map from fuel moto. My plan is to install everything required and take it to a dyno afterwards
@cruzdehoyos336 if you've got a later model bike with the updated oil pump, your good to go. I think it was 2020+ but just confirm. You do not need to change the material of your cam plate. People obviously do it, but you'd gain nothing on a setup like this. Big cube built motor with huge lift? Maybe but probably debatable. My view is injector upgrade is mandatory purely to reduce the duty cycle and how hard they have to work, not for gains on the dyno sheet. They're basically the same size that came on an 88 cube STOCK with 60 odd HP... now needing to keep pace with 120-130hp. Ask tuners and twimcam builders how many of them keep stock injectors on 120-130hp builds, nobody. Not sure why M8s are thought of differently.
@ that makes total sense, I’ve got a 23 low rider ST. So definitely looking to replicate your set up to some degree! I’ve been watching your builds for a while and they all are absolutely solid! Thank you for the info
With that information about the injectors, the APE kit looks really good
I'm running same carb, compression and cams, also head work and roller rockers ,springs. She boogies and drinks when she's angry hahaha New Zealand
@stanleyhodgson3034 very nice. I sometimes think I should've sprung for headwork but it was quite a budget build, but goes very well. Around town it's definitely thirsty but I blame the accelerator pump for that. Open road it seems way more reasonable.
Dude, that's truly a work of art. Beautiful Peace. Love FXR.
Did you find the jumper wire for your ckp sensor was short? How’s you route yours? Mine seems way too short and won’t reach without having wiring lay across the engine. Thank you
hey mate, not sure what you mean re: "jumper wire" for the CKP. Do you mean the actual CKP wire/plug from the harness or from the sensor? I noticed that most CKP sensors are the same, but variations in the PN tended to be the length of the harness of the CKP sensor. So if you have an ignition harness for say a 2000 Dyna, a CKP sensor for something like a 2016 bagger may be too short. Thankfully, the wires are very simple and so can be extended easily, on either the harness side or CKP side.

Can I ask why 6.2 & not 5.5 screaming eagle injectors? I have the same bike, on wait for the HPI and same cam. Just wondering
@Jay_Tovennn 5.5s would be fine as well, but the 6.2s could still be tuned perfectly, have lower duty cycle, and means i won't need to buy new injectors if I go big bore down the line.

Is it hard that the it a motogadget gauge on an FXR?
Depends how good you are with wiring. It's straight forward, all the diagrams are online in the manual, but the gauge wire is finicky.

Awesome job I appreciate you sharing your info and in my humble opinion, I think it goes along the lines of original biker chopper attitude, using Harley parts(using the best years and mixing them together), not spending an arm in the leg on all kinds of different nonsense I did have a question now. Was it just the crossmembers that you cut out and does the complete bagger drivetrain work in those frames or is it just a road king motor and trans?
Cheers mate, I think of it like OEM+, similar to stock but nicely upgraded across all areas. Good thing about late model stuff is parts availability is so much better, easier and cheaper. As for fitment, it is just the cross members removed. They can retained of you spend the money on a billet oil pan that can clear them. It must be a bagger setup used in the fxr frame. Doesn't really matter year or model, but must be from a tourer due to dimensions. Softails/dynas use a longer primary that will not fit. The full drivetrain from a bagger fits.
Thanks for the info on getting back to me so soon (brother) keep building
Thanks for getting back to me on that, working on updating my FXR and thanks on the heads up on the places that are helping you out with parts, I'll be getting parts from them for sure 👍👍 by the way you have no idea how much I appreciate your videos saved me days if not weeks of time getting new needed parts much appreciated. Take care and have a great day 👍👍
Hello, how do you like the rear shock mounts back on the swing arm of the 02 Road King swing arm and did you have to do any mechining on it to fit the frame?? Thanks for your time.👍👍 BAD ASS BIKE (Have one myself) 👍👍
They're fine, I use the RP shock position too so it offsets the slant a bit. If you had the RK swing arm and used the front shock mount the shock would be quite layed down. No machining needed, but I did use the RK trans, and all the wheel/caliper/sprocket was all custom and measured up

hey dude, i got a 39mm narrow front end im trying to fit radial tokikos on but they are hitting my 3/4 sealed 13 spokes, are the brembo radials more narrow?

i cant even get the caliper to sit on the rotor without it hitting the spoke, got me wondering if this setup doesn't work@@jimmyrustles8118

I’m currently cleaning up my 2003 softail tc88 wire harness to prepare it for a custom build and want to make it a key switch ignition, my only question is do I need to have that giant ugly turn signal security module still?
If you're running a TC88 ignition, it can be bypassed. Im not running them on my bikes. Instructions can be found in the manual.
@@jimmyrustles8118 correct I wanted to use the OEM ignition, might be dumb to ask but where can I find the manual? Might have missed it In the video
@@jimmyrustles8118just found it in the twin Tec manual, for anyone wonder it says to ground the wire going from pin 10 on the black connector.
@Nathanr561 sorry I'm referring to the daytona twintec ignition. Instructions for bypassing are in the instructions. I'd expect it cannot be bypassed on the stock ignition...would make the whole TSSM part redundant if it it could just be bypassed but I'm not across the finer details.
Is there a way to contact you about my current build? It has Mr stumped with multiple others.

Man, will you make a complete parts list for this build? I'm working on my first fxr build, and a parts list will show me how you dealt with specific problems with TC FXR build. Please.
Realistically only a few parts are specific to the conversion process. The complete list would be super extensive because I think I only reused like 3 or 4 parts from the original bike.
Beautiful. 🤩 Gonna be a badazz FXR for sure.
How does it ride?? Does it do well at slow speeds too
Mine is perfect down low, so good it actually surprised me. I've accidentally taken off in 2nd gear a couple of times. It seems directly correlated to the tune though. I know other bikes with similar setups or 475 that say their bike hates low speed riding and nearly stalls.
@jimmyrustles8118 I have heard that down low is really bad on 475 but great on cr485.. so that's why I had to ask.. thank you
@silverpheonix3603 yeah the 475 does, but it's an old cam design and they've come a long way for other manufacturers. The irony is that the bad low down power makes it more pronounced when it comes into power, so people think "wow I can really feel the power on" where as cam like the 485 that has more power all the way through won't have that "hit" but is better everywhere haha
@jimmyrustles8118 I can see that.. and you're exactly right. Slow speed is so important..I rather power everywhere. Thank again

Now I’m second guessing myself. I’m scrapping the Mag Marelli for a CVcarb on my 2000 Rd King. Was planning on going with the Dynatech ignition and a Namz wiring harness. Thoughts ? I saw your comment on issues you had with Namz, and wondering what. Bike is stock and looking for reliability not speed
You should be fine with either setup, both will be as reliable as each other. My issue with NAMZ was around the way they wired the harness and it not working with my setup (which is obviously pretty custom), and it had to do with the ground for the Ignition module and me having to run two seperate grounds for the ignition module to work. It has to do with the way the TSSM module is bypassed, and how that worked on the NAMZ harness was a bit odd. On the Daytona Gear, which came as kit (harness, ignition etc) it all worked seamlessy out of the box for the exact same setup.
Thanks for responding. Only reason I like the Namz is cause it is basically OEM copy of harness for the carb version of my bike. I don’t see a power line on the harness though. Maybe gets power from main harness ? Do you think I could run the EFI ECM I have now with the carb ? Provided it has crank sensor
@davidlangley6671 @davidlangley6671 the Daytona harness is the same/similar, mirrors a carb tc88 harness. I highly doubt an efi ecm will work, completely different setup.
Thanks Jimmy

Looks and sounds beastly 🔥
I guess if your part engineer this is fun, However if horse power is my end game I would think a 124" or 143" with minor frame mods with the latter would be way...More productive. Good luck man. I'll stick with my 124. Not bashing here.
Absolute highest horsepower definitely isnt the end game, not with a carb'd 95in motor anyway. Not sure they're really comparable either, by my maths, a 124 would be over 6 times more expensive then this setup cost me. For me, theres not a great deal of value there throwin $10,000 + for an extra 30 odd horsepower, not when Ive got other Harleys anyway. If money was no object, it would be a very different bike in the end haha
Are those the Sportster roadster wheels?
Yeah they are.
Beautiful build!!! What carb and jets are you running?
Mikuni HSR42, nearly stock jetting but acc pump down a couple.
