PLATO Mission Summary & Status
ESA’s mission Plato, PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars, will use its 26 cameras to study terrestrial exoplanets in orbits up to the habitable zone of Sun-like stars. The mission will measure the sizes of exoplanets and discover exomoons and rings around them. Plato will also characterise planets' host stars by studying tiny light variations in the starlight it receives. Teledyne e2v supplied 104 CCD Bruyères sensors for this mission, and this presentation summarises what ESA wants to achieve and provides an update on its current progress. The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) began in 2001, launched on the NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter in 2005, and has returned more than 80,000 large (typically gigapixel) images of Mars with sub-meter resolution.
