Year 9: A Look Back and Ahead Video Version
Welcome to our annual anniversary episode where I share thoughts on the podcast's evolution -improvements, opportunities, and what’s in store for the future. But it's important to reflect on one's work, solicit and discuss feedback, and provide context for viewing the cultural mirror that defines American television. In today’s environment, simply pu...

Growing up in The Bronx, I know the importance of being noticed and what an opportunity means. Amidst the chaos we see today, Annie Potts inspires hope. I think we can agree that mallory nailed her performance as lamb chop. She has completely followed into her mother's footsteps. When it comes to voicing lamb chop, both of their voices seem identical. I literally can't tell them apart. In a way, Shari is still alive through both her daughter and her puppet. I bet she would be so proud of how her daughter is carrying on her career and legacy.

    1983 was a very special time in my life. The Diana Ross concert in Central Park, though I was not there, I have slot of memories from that time. The #1 song on the charts was I'll be Watching You by the Police, at it's third if 8 weeks st #1. #2 was Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant, #3 was Flash dance by Irene Cara, #4 was Never gonna let You Go by Sergio Mendez, and #5 was Wanna be Starting' Something' by the late Michael.Jackson. Other notable songs were, Our Bus by Mad, at #7, Sweet Dreams are made of These by The Eurythmics, at #11, which would hit #1 by Labor Day Weekend, ending The Police's 8 week reign st #1. 1983 was a very hot summer, and these thunderstorms that cut short the Diana Ross concert, also brought an end to a stifling heat wave which had been gripping the region for over a week. Most of those songs can still be heard on the radio now, specifically on radio stations that specialize in 70's and 80's songs. These songs should also bring back.memories of those days. Diane Ross also had a hit at that time with Pieces of Ice at #35.

For an excellent resource on Liza's TV appearances, please check out Scott Schechter's book, "The Liza Minnelli Scrapbook". It contains a thorough, well-researched, if not scholarly, look at almost everything Liza did on TV. If you feel impressed at what RUclips has to offer on Liza's TV work, wait until you see the information in Schechter's book. :)

    875,000 was the original day 1 crowd count. It’s a million people. 600,000 returned the next day rain free. Even Billboard Mag got the numbers wrong. The concert was for building a playground which is still in Central Park today.

  • @davebellamy4867
    @davebellamy4867 3 года назад

    I was on my first ever foreign holiday as an pre-18th birthday treat and we arrived in NYC on the 21st July 1983. We were walking in Central Park before the concert, right as so many people were coming in. We had no idea why, having just arrived there. That afternoon was so humid and oppressive and the flight over the city was really turbulent as we had to wait ages to land. The storm came later and was a really big one. As I recall, we went out for supper and thexstorm was full on. We found a rssyaursnt ina mall and I was glad to be right inside a building! Afterwards, we sheltered in a bank foyer opposite Radio City Music Hall as rain still tumbled down. Diana showed such leadership skill, looking after her audience because the storm contined on well into the evening. The next day was beautiful, clear and so much cooler, just pleasantly warm with a breeze, like a perfect English summer day (when we get one now and then)! The view from the Empire State's 72nd floor platform was fantastic and, I got so many photos. A cool guy from Germany even lent me a wide angle lens. A complete stranger. It was such a good day. I would have loved to have been at the second concert that day, so different from the first. All the footage shows what special events they were and I get a great feeling knowing I was in NYC those two days ... and for three more, before returning to England.
