Great character she was, humble, loving, always smiling, appreciating everything in life. My grandpa died in his early 50s, two WW wars, Russian Gulag and communism destroyed him. Grandma never remarried.I miss her humor and humanity.

A lot of sore stinky asses walking away. They forgot to mention women and their cycles. What did they use? One person said they used dirt. DIRT? Yeah dirt ..down the leg and into the dirt. Lye soap. I've made it many times and it is gentle enough to wash a baby in after it is "seasoned" for a period of about six weeks. While regular lye soap which includes water, lye and lard does not suds much, it will get your body and clothes clean. Also clothes washed with lye soap are going to be cleaner and smell better than dirty sweat soaked clothing. My mother used some lye soap that my grandmother made years before to add to the wash, cutting it in small pieces to wash my dad's blue jeans that he wore in the steel mill. Amazing results.. I rest my case. Post Script, I have added detergent and even dish washing liquid to the recipe for more suds.
