This theme will live with me forever, and I loved the programme despite what the critics said.

My mother loved it, pity it was set in Birmingham, I'm a black country lad so it would have been better in Walsall. I'm a pensioner now so I remember when it first started as a young lad. Not much on TV then so a massive audience. Amy turttle eat your heart out.

Romantic Theme Tunes.

A truly lovely series, that didn't deserve the critics nasty comments, i was watching some 1970's episodes of Coronation Street recently and it had the exact little mistakes that Crossroads had, in one episode i saw a grey microphone over the actors heads come slightly into view and Patricia Phoenix (Elsie Tanner) said "dooner" then quickly corrected it to "dinner", and Margot Bryant (Mrs.Caldwell) made a little mistake saying her lines, alot of series back then were the same, i won't have anything said against Crossroads, if anyone of the characters were upset, or needed help everyone rallied round with kindness and compassion and love, every member of the family could watch it, i loved the theme and if this exact recording was re released on CD i would buy it tomorrow! i also loved the closing credits achieved by two panning camera's, one camera physically moving horizontal and the second vertical and two prop men removing each card, (i personally loved the white lettering font on the orange background), at least you could always read the credits, and if they went horizontal and vertical ultra slow it meant they had plenty of time on their hands. I'm sure many remember the motel fire episode on the 4th.November 1981, the closing credits went horizontal and vertical as usual, but unusually there was no closing theme. 1981 was the year when Meg Mania swept the nation when Noele Gordon was written out of the series, fans litterly cried floods of tears when the motel reception and foyer went up in flames, and cried tears of joy when Meg was alive and well aboard the QE2, deciding motel life was no longer for her, and with the loss of Sandy, and David Hunter nearly selling the motel from under her, she decided on a fresh start in America. Thank you for sharing this wonderful theme!

Both remakes of Crossroads came in for a lot of criticism (especially for the original audience). The one thing they both for right was to reinstate the original theme tune

Tbf this is not the "sad theme" but more the dramatic theme. The sad theme was the harp version. The Paul McCartney and Winfs version - although used for "sad" events (such as the death of Arthur Brownlow) was more for dramatic effect rather than emotion.

Love this song, a shame it was never released

I managed to get tickets to watch the final being recorded this year (Aug 2024) and watching the events with no music is strange.😂

Some useless trivia: This was used in the late 80s on Radio 4 LW to bridge the gap between overnight World Service and the start of programming each morning. Abbey's Theme would alternate in summer with The Celts by Enya.
