Finger Lakes Land Trust
Добавлен 12 авг 2014
The Finger Lakes Land Trust was founded in 1989 to protect those lands that define the character of the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. To date, the Land Trust has protected more than 18,000 acres of the region's wetlands, forests, farmland, shorelines, and gorges.
This has been accomplished through the establishment of nature preserves that are open to the public for quiet recreation, the use of conservation easements (voluntary agreements on private lands), and the provision of technical assistance and educational programs to local governments, landowners, and the public.

New Nature Preserve Coming to Skaneateles! Shotwell Brook Conservation Area!
The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has secured 101 acres of fields, wetlands, and woods adjacent to the Village of Skaneateles. Featuring prominent frontage on U.S. Route 20, and more than 1,000 feet of streambank on Shotwell Brook, the land will be protected as a nature preserve, to be opened after public access improvements are made.
The Shotwell Brook Conservation Area presents an extraordinary opportunity for the protection of lake water quality and community enjoyment of the outdoors. The project helps maintain the drinking water supply for the City of Syracuse.

What a beautiful place✨💕
You probably fucked it. Cayuga county is full of sickos. Auburn dumping grounds.
Cayuga county is just pedophiles and drug dealers and angry indians
I live half a mile down the road and I can't tell you how happy I am that this is what y'all did. When I saw the old house being taken down/land being cleared, I thought we were getting another dollar general. I've never been much of a donator in general, but the Finger Lakes Land Trust has won my money.
Thank you, neighbor! We were thrilled to protect the Sims-Jennings Preserve. You can see a map (www.fllt.org/map) of some 40 other FLLT nature preserves around the region that are free and open to everyone. You can also see recent conservation headlines (www.fllt.org/news/) and support the land trust here, www.fllt.org/donate/. Cheers!
Good thing you can't smell that den...cute runs short when you can!
They are spawning today.... Lots of fish looking on the steam from the foot of the gorge
Thanks professor 😊
So you don't/won't call for the change in diet.... (is that really a high hanging fruit at all?? meat addiction?)) which would entirely fix the problem? Guess what smoking causes cancer.... but it's a high hanging fruit to quit smoking??? lol. So what would the effect of ending animal agriculture and the adoption of a plant based diet have on nitrogen and phosphorus destroying our waterways? Ie. we know all the monoculture (destroying farmland itself of nutrients and requiring tons of petro based synthetic fertilizers which further leach excess nitrogen phosphorus etc into our waterways)) cheap GMO grains are almost entirely grown for animal feed and CAFOs that are destroying the environment and produce so much excess excrement leaching into waterways that it would be nearly impossible to collect it all and process it.... let alone lord knows what is in this animal waste (as we know from the biosolids "fertilizer" lie... can be full of PFAS, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals and much more ((which scientists said to spray all over your field and now are basically radioactive in PFAS bankrupting farmers)) , how disgusting are those animal ag farms and how can you smell them for MILES and MILES around). You are dancing around and avoiding calling for the actual fix to the problem which is that animal agriculture is not and will never be sustainable (it's actually downright TOXIC and destroying our ecosystems which are on the brink of collapse) in a modern world trying to feed billions of people.... when we all know in that same plot of land you can grow way more food for just humans (plant based) than would ever feed or house cows/farm animals without the need for synthetic fertilizers and monocrops. Currently 50%+ of USA land is used for animal agriculture (housing or for feed), how insane!! you cannot ever make it sustainable. Plant based is OBVIOUSLY CRAZY Better for the planet and environment, better for your heatlth & longevity (all the studies with the twins, blue zones, David Sinclair and anti-aging research plant based, Bryan Johnson spend millions on health checking his blood biomarkers all the time and basically entirely plant based), and it's better for sentient animals. Quit doing the same thing expecting different results. Stop your addiction and promote the truth and actual recovery of our destroyed nature!!!
Springtime Sally!🎶🐉💕
@cosmicsalamander
Can we still help out?
This was an excellent program when I participated live. Dan Egan and Harold Van Es were an excellent team, each bringing expertise to the discussion. Thank you for arranging it, and thank you for the recording. This is an important issue for our watersheds which we all need to know more about.
This a very good topic to get out in the foreground of the public eye. The last time I read a fishing regulation guide I was discouraged by all the warnings of not eating the fish in most of our water bodies... In the last month I was visiting a stream and could smell sewage and noticed nasty blooms of algae I think. THey were covering every surface of the stream bed. The land owner followed the source to a runoff ditch pipe from a large dairy farm where uphill there were silage pits, the runoff of which can be 100x worse than sewage runoff. The DEC was notified and the farmers promised to do what they could to help fix it. Ultimately the solution was dilution... waiting for Spring rains to clean it up. I agree we need to prevent this runoff better. I think planted, forested, vegetated buffers should be used downstream of fields. If a stream channel begins at or runs through a field it should be left unplowed and as a buffer to capture these excess nutrients. Keep our fields covered with cover crops as much as possible and avoid plowing and applying manure right before major rain events...
The Chemung River Basin should all be protected from development and damming. It is a vital River system that allows so many ocean species to have historical range all the way up through the Susquehanna to the estuaries of the Canisteo River! Kudos
Glad to hear about this! I hope to someday explore the newly acquired Bad Bear Hill !
Jason.....let me know when the trails go in! Really exciting!
How does it benefit people if they aren’t allowed to wild harvest or tend medicine or first foods?
Wonderful! Thanks for all the hard work for this achievement!
dope love it
That looks awesome ! It needs to be saved for future generations ! I must go there and check it out first hand ! SOON!!
My friend told me it sounds like anchovies he was right
Wow- that is some awesome property, way to go!
I grew up in Borodino and the love I had for nature and the rural spaces I was surrounded by was instrumental in shaping my passion for wildlife & conservation. Thank you so much for all your efforts & successes!
Thank you for your encouragement and support!
The re-introduction of large mammalian carnivores will be paramount to resorting the balance of nature. Large carnivores from all around the world exhibit an uncanny ability to target prey that is weak, old, or otherwise unfit. Thereby preventing aged prey from taking on a communicable illness due to a declivity in health that can be spread to the larger population or other creatures, at large. Humans can’t have a conversation about global warming and ignore the importance of living alongside prey and predators alike to restore the balance of nature. Our species has done it for hundreds of thousands of years and it’s obviously not negatively impacted the human population or endeavor. We can live side-by-side with large carnivores. Especially if our very existence depends on it
❤❤❤😊
How does Finger Lakes Land Trust feel about hunting, fishing and trapping? Thank you for your time.
The Finger Lakes Land Trust supports hunting and fishing within the context of ecologically balanced management of our natural areas. Deer hunting is allowed at some of our preserves and we administer a free permit-based system. Fishing is allowed on a case by case basis. Trapping on all Land Trust lands is prohibited.
Good work FLLT! Thank-you for your stewardship.
Fantastic! Congratulations!!🎉
very powerful and beautiful video #WeR1
when might this be open for a walk/hike?
It would be great if they can tear down the Bell station itself and restore the land on the site.
It would be better if they could refire it with our own natural gas.
Who were the musicians?
Alvin and the chipmunks, duh
Great Night life, camera placement … video production all outstanding … any chance that indigenous language identification could be added as move more nuanced and less colonial norms.
@victorelderton3158 - I would love to see the indigenous language identification, but not knowing more than I see on our highway signs around the Seneca Reserves, I wonder about similarities vs. differences Seneca/Cayuga/Onondaga?
Very ugly soundtrack
Turn down the volume... EDIT: The above advice was based on my first viewing and the admonition to "Shhh!" at 0:38 which prompted me to mute, giving the video a much closer out-in-the-night feeling like I often do around my back yard and pond. Then I viewed the video again, still muted but listening to The Doors "Riders On The Storm" on my cell phone ear buds. For me, this gave it another dimension (I love a good thunderstorm!).
@@douglas_drew I am very clumsy with my phone, but good point!! Lots of fisher tracks lately--
I saw a pair of mink at Stewart Park this summer, they were scampering away from the first bridge as you go toward the golf course and headed for the shore. And another by the Science center on the creek wall.
I saw a mink walk across that bridge this summer!
This is great!
Thank you for watching !
Fantastic editing! This was great ❤
Thank you so much!
So glad these animals are around here. Makes me feel whole.
Us too!
Love this!! 🦊
