This show was horrendous. The combat scenes were shot in a way that only someone without any knowledge of combat could direct/write. Most of the plot requires the characters to be imbeciles to work and move forward. SPOILER WARNING vault-tec dropping the bombs for profit makes no sense what so ever. In response to your question, i hope this is not as good as it gets because if so we as consumers of entertainment lose.

Of all the horror movies I've seen, two are my personal favourites: Clive Barker's Nightbreed... And Alien. Alien is simply put, a masterwork in direction, tension, atmosphere, suspense and thrills. It's probably the definitive space-bound horror film long after its release, and the Big Chap himself is honestly my favourite horror antagonist. Of course, the franchise after is a bit of a mixed bag, with the second one being the only one people agree on being good. Personally, yes I agree that said second film (Aliens) is the best of the sequels, but I do have a soft spot for Alien 3 with its dark prison bound industrialism, down-to-earth dialogue, definitive ending and "fire sequence". The rest, especially Alien Covenant, I can do without (though I am optimistic for Romulus later this year). And apparently, the Aliens Versus Predator crossover movies are meant to be even worse than Covenant, so...

Thank you for your analysis. I enjoyed watching your podcast. I remember my mother going to see this movie in '79. It was too much for her at that time. She couldn't bear the horror and left when the face hugger attacked the astronaut. Years later, she was able to watch this film to the end. She loved the second film, Aliens, and thought this should have been the conclusion to Ripley's story. She always liked to think that Ripley formed a family with Newt and Hicks.

The tongue is a horrific plot hole, totally unexplained how it ended up there, the bigger question though is if Hank was hired by the mine/scientists to cover up the murder; why cut out the tongue and why place her body in a place that could be found, why not hide her in the ice/countryside? The biggest problem with True Detective season 4 is that the plot makes absolutely no sense, and the characters are unlikeable.

100% agree on the lack of character arcs for Liz or Navarro. So unsatisfying to see that they haven't grown or changed at all during the series.

One, me, can tell those that never went to Saturday Movie Matinees as a kids with many cliffhangers shown. I'm so surprise that many didn't know that it was a two part movie. Also, life goes on after the end of a movie and that isn't shown.

Great discussion guys. Crystal Skull is uneven but for me on both a conceptual an visual level the first 45mins or so are among the best of the entire franchise.

Love it. TLOU is one of my all-time favorite game series. The word that always comes to mind is "Quality." Oh and Donavon...Uncharted 4 is still the #1 best gaming experience I have ever had to this day.

I looked at the Episode 8 script courtesy TV Show Transcripts. No-one mentions Rings at all! (Except for the end-song)

I kept thinking…”all they had to do was create a show that follows the “Tale of Years” appendix. That appendix is not the fully developed written text seen in The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, but it is a pretty detailed outline of the Second Age. It’s an outline that they could have followed AND it has gaps in it where they could have liberty to create their own details. It just had to fit within the Tale of Years context that Tolkien wrote. But the show failed. My grips are 1. The Tolkien characters depicted in the show are not close at all to the book counterparts Tolkien wrote 2. The sequence of major events Tolkien wrote in the Tale of Years are getting jumbled about haphazardly. I can go on: I hate the depiction of the Numenorians - they’re not the super-race of men depicted in the books. So much is wrong in the show.

I think the Boys intent is to make us feel uncomfortable with our worship of superheroes. I loved the sets and Herogasm was hilarious because it's what we imagine the rich and powerful doing all the time. My only disappointment was the lack of big fights. The ending was not as spectacular as I'd like to have seen it.
