    So much disillusionment in musicians seems to me to be related to the strange dichotomy between bands playing music and "worship" music. I think they are two different things and most "worship leaders" I have known don't seem to understand this. I think a Christian can and should sing about anything on their heart whether its Ecclesiastical sadness, struggling with trust in God like the Psalms, romantic love or even the birds and the trees haha. But I think worship music has a specific purpose as part of a church service. I think worship music should have some guidelines lyrically and worship leaders should realize they are in a place of leadership. Like pastors they need to be cognizant about how they present themselves so as not to distract from worship and to step out of the way as much as possible - because in that setting it truly is all about God and not them.

    "...Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Romans 1:20. "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. 1 Corinthians 15:17-19

    Comments were disabled on the Glenn Kaiser interview so my comment has to do with that video, not this one. It's funny when Glen talks about Charlie Peacock telling that aspiring artist to basically not seek a record label. I was the bass player in a Christian band called Kersusso in college. Our first real gig was a battle of the bands in which Don Francisco was the host. I remember him telling us backstage to avoid the record labels at all costs because they would take your music, your profits and then tell you what to do and how to make your music. Although we never went anywhere after our demo CD, I'm glad we sidestepped that world. According to Alisa CHilders (Zoe Girl) that world is devastating to Christians.

    • @ElectricJesus
      @ElectricJesus 16 дней назад

      It's tough out there for all artists, especially post-Covid...but Christian artists tend to be even more vulnerable to bad faith actors, unfortunately.

    Ha! Fast forward to the mid to late 90s and this kid is me all the way. I think Petra was my favorite of this era (especially Greg X. Volz era) they def had an impact in my life. I all but quit listening to music a few years ago in favor of Podcasts but still crank some of these bands now and then. I spent a stupid long time writing a blog post that’s a list of ALL my CDs with a link to a RUclips playlist of each album. I know I’m REdiCUlouS!

    • @ElectricJesus
      @ElectricJesus 16 дней назад

      Great addition! We were limiting this *ridiculous* monologue to 66 bands (one for every book of the Bible) but Holy Solider would have been a great add. Erik also doesn't list Stryper, even though they are his favorite band of all time...go figure.

  • @rawar777joshanderson
    @rawar777joshanderson Месяц назад

    False. There were no lyric videos in the 80s. But I am blown away by Daniel Smith’s ability to make music way different than Danielson.

  • @rawar777joshanderson
    @rawar777joshanderson Месяц назад

    Musically if you told me this was actually from a band in the 80s I’d believe it. Lyrically I’m kind of scratching head… it really sounds like something Mike Judge would write into King of the Hill as a sharp jab at Christians. I’m really back and forth about whether this movie is making fun of Christians and Christian metal or just trying to be funny. Like is this song suppose to show these kids in this band are nieve? And in doing so, making a commentary on all the Christian bands coming up in those years?

    • @ElectricJesus
      @ElectricJesus 16 дней назад

      We think of it more as a gently satiric homage to the times. The kids are sincere in their faith, but naive for sure. It was a sweet time that had its flaws...but still has meant a lot to so many people, including many people who worked on the film.

    Got me reminiscing. I had a couple of Stryper CDs but was more into techno, punk and industrial in my teens. Looking back though, Stryper was freakin legit.

  • @rawar777joshanderson
    @rawar777joshanderson Месяц назад

    If you needed a vocal coach for those high notes, that's when you should have called in Micheal Sweet. I had this awesome Stryper tribute CD in the 90's called "Sweet Family Music: A Tribute to Stryper" and one of my all time favorite bands, Aleixa, were the ones to cover "Makes Me Wanna Sing". They were a band with female vocals and their lead singer had to adjust her vocals in the studio to get up there with Micheal Sweet's.

  • @rawar777joshanderson
    @rawar777joshanderson Месяц назад

    It's weird how you all talk about this scene really "hands off" like you're deep down embarrassed about the whole scene . I have never understood why its taboo for Christian bands to be more propaganda oriented than for the 90 million secular bands out there pushing some other kind of propaganda in their music? Like, Green Day, though I love their style, makes me want to gag because they're so full of propaganda - but hey that's their right and they SHOULD be able to sing about WHATEVER they want.
