Atatürk's forced secularization stripped away the rights of the majority, banning the hijab, mandating the ezan in Turkish instead of Arabic, converting the Hagia Sophia, one of the greatest mosques, into a museum, and abolishing the caliphate. These actions were seen as a direct affront to Islam. Mourning such a person means ignoring all the martyrs who died for the establishment of the ottoman caliphate!!! Open your eyes Turks, see reality, know your history right! Modernization and infrastructure development were largely driven by post-World War global industrialization and not JUST because of Ataturk!!

These sort of generalizations do not make sense at all. I did not even realize that the date is 10th November, same goes to people around me. Life does not stop for sure at that moment. It is only about the big picture aiming to group people and kill the authenticity inside our souls. It seems to work for the majority.

For those who don't know: November 10th 1938, 9:05 is the date that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk had closed his eyes to the world forever, and to remember and show our respect to him, every November 10th, when the hour shows 9:05 we stop at the sound of siren and in schools, we read our national poem (Istiklal Marşı) If you come to Turkey and see this, it would be appreciative if you also stopped in respect or at least didn't disturb others who are stopping, its an important day for us after all

As a Greek I am really impressed how you respect your national leaders, in a united manner. If only they did the same with the communist resistance that liberated our soil in WW2 and the people who rose up in 1821. Atatürk was a great reformer, and thanks to him, there was a lot of societal progression.
