Archery Season 2024 - Meat In The Freezer & Good Time Spent In The Woods
Archery season didn't go as I planned...Keep in mind hunting is as much learning and enjoying as anything else. It has its frustrations, things you look back on and think "how did I screw that up!" But at the end of the day it's in our blood and those of us that are out there day after day for a few minutes of opportunity love every minute of it!

How To Make DIY - Simple, Effective, Bow String - No Jig
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.3 месяца назад
STORE - mainelyprimitive.etsy.com A video on how I make my bow strings... These work great and is what I have been using for years. I used to make continous loop strings on a jig but switched to these because of the simplicity and the ability to be adjusted in length and loop size if needed. It takes about 15-20 minutes to make a finished string once you get some practice. Thanks for watching! ...
Ishi Woodcock Hunting - German Shepherd Bird Dog!!
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
The story of hunting with a shepherd - I have used a shepherd for a hunting dog for 13 years now. My first shepherd was Gunner. I had never hunted with a dog before... but when he was a little over a year old I decided to bring him out on the trails with me. He learned quick and after a few trips was pretty good at sniffing out a grouse! Over the next couple years we became almost symbiotic in ...
Opening Day Archery.... But I Caught A Bear In My Trap!!!
Просмотров 5172 года назад
I planned on deer hunting....But ended up getting a bear in my trap. Maine is the only state you are allowed to trap bears in, we are allowed 1 by hunting and 1 by trapping. This bear provided meat for winter and a hide to tan, not how I planned opening day but quite an experience. Subscribe to the channel, more videos on the way!

Yep they suck. They made a big pond right on are land line.
Wishing you luck with your amazing bow and arrows and hand knapped points! Beautiful craftsmanship and I appreciate how much work has gone into this set up. Killing a deer with this rig would be a huge accomplishment. Good hunting!
Thank you!
Note: after editing and watching I realized I say taper alot during some sections...so apologize if it's annoying (it bothers me but I wasn't going to re film it all) just wanted to say it in case anyone else is thinking it...
I have only found your channel . Have you or do you intend to make a video of selecting and straightening bamboo shafts . I have subscribed . Thanks
Thanks! I do have a video on straightening bamboo shafts, it's a bit long but very detailed information on the process
Hey i redesigned a thumbnail for your RUclips channel, check your mail 🤝
Thank you mate for that video, you show some great pice of knowlege. Greetings :D
Thanks!
I would enjoy seeing a video where you show us your short draw technique.
I will definitely make a future video discussing that!
Awesome! I've been twisting bowstrings for a while but I like this a lot better... do you have a name for this style?
I'm not sure if it has an actual name or not... I personally haven't seen people making or using this style but I'm sure there are some out there. Back weaved loops string? Best I can think of at the moment lol
You should post more videos man.
I'll be posting a new video every week now (usually on the weekend) - I have a list of ones to make from more how to archery stuff, hide tanning, hunts, trapping, processing game ect... If you have any ideas of content you'd be interested let me know as well!
I hunt pheasant with my GSD. He finds birds other dogs miss…
They make a great hunting companion!
Very cool to see a GSD doing this so well!
Good boy got him! My guy loves them also. Taking him to do the same soon.
Your puppy dawg is making a lot of lab owners envious 😂
More than once we have come across other hunters with their bird dogs who say they didn't find much along the trail, only to have Ishi flush multiple they walk past. One guy and his dog last year stopped to talk and Ishi ran 100ft up the trail past them while we were talking and put up a bird they just walked by . The guy didn't know what to think!
Nice man! Very cool to trap a Black Bear, also your hunting setup is sweet. I have never seen Ipe used for arrows, I make Ash shafts that are pretty heavy 600+ grains in a 28" arrow. Good video friend!
What kind of arrow did you say you were using?
Ipe arrow shafts
@@mainelyprimitive thanks for the reply. That makes more sense. I couldn't make out what you were saying and CC was coming up as "Epay". Where are you located in Maine? I'm a Mainer myself.
Im near Acadia
Thayts what i call a dog 😀😀
Thanks, he has turned into a great hunting dog! 3 years old now and does rabbits, woodcock and partridge. Also quite the tracking machine!
@@mainelyprimitive we can tell 🙂👍
Hi, you inspired me to teach my shepherd to hunt and for me to go out into the wild more often. I often checked you shop to see what's new but I noticed you site and etsy shop are both deleted. Just wanted to know what happened, but still respect your privacy. im a pretty big fan of your content as there isn't much like this. thank you.
Hey thank you and that's great to hear! My site/etsy is deactivated at the moment because ive been working a bunch trying to save for land and working on my own gear for hunting season. I'm going to try to find time to edit/upload some videos. I want to focus more on my channel (which I really should make time for because I enjoy creating content) and hopefully get some decent equipment to film more during hunting/trapping season! But thanks again for your support and hope your having a good time with your shepherd in the woods!
SCREAMING GUITAR MUSIC.
hello I would like to know how many degrees of temperature? in the box and the time 4 hours, 6 hours...? sorry for my translation thanks and greetings
It's been years since I made a recurve but If I remember right I did 4 hours at 180
What epoxies and glues you recommend for lamination?
I always used smooth on ea40
It Came out beautiful. Just a question, would it be a good choice for making a croosbow limb? I'm torn between using leaf spring or fiberglass limbs. Thanks!
I've never made a crossbow but I do think a shorter fiberglass limb would work well for a crossbow.
😘🙌🏾😁🏹🥰
Beautiful bow!
Thanks!
Cool! im thinking of teach my shepherd pup to hunt squeaky toy plush rabbits with a kibble scent, and just out of curiosity, do you know what kind of rabbit that is? jack rabbit, or something else?
Be a great game for it! And these are snowshoe hares. Only ones we have here but there's quite a few of them.
@@mainelyprimitive oh okay thanks. Yeah, my pup gets excited when he finds the toy rabbit and awaits a reward when he shows me where it is.
cool training
I have iron in my backyard and wondered if I could make a bow out of it, now I know thanks
My german shepherd huskies trust to kill rabbits
Fuck...why people make their dogs do this? ...
Because it's food and dogs especially shepherds are instinctive hunters that love to hunt. There is no greater bond than hunting food and sharing it with your dog.
@@mainelyprimitive There are no animals that exist just to be hunt or just to be food. Making your dog kill another living being is stupid, if ypu enjoy killing animals then you are trash and dont deserve anything in this world.
Brother kharidnethe price send karo
brother, could you tell me what kind of bamboo these arrows are made of? and do you think the bamboo reed works? I hope you answer the two questions, thanks in advance and greetings
I use Tonkin bamboo but people make arrow out of many types of bamboo/cane. I don't know what type of bamboo reed you have but give it a try! Might work well.
@@mainelyprimitive Oh I understand brother thank you very much for the information greetings from Honduras
Pseudosasa japonica and Pseudosasa Amabilish (Tokin) are best choice, otherwise river cane is also a option, reed Bamboo may not work
@@TheBabuna007 A brother, I don't think there are those kinds of bamboo in this country and if there is, I wouldn't know it because maybe here they call it by another name, although I don't think there is, if rather before I could get cane bamboo because in this place it is poor in bambus but I thank you for the good information brother
@@andycorea1133 tell me which country?
When you released the arrow it looked like the string was a spaghetti noodle , thought for a second it was gonna come off the bow .
Pretty awesome bow but what's up with actualy shooting it. Did you pick the worst/quickest video so people didnt spot flaws or do you just not wanna show us
nice now ur dog can catch up to 27 Rabbits Now bc 1 year old
What gun did you use?
An old beat up single shot .22
@@mainelyprimitive thanks for the response, I love your videos
Teak, from experience is an oily wood. Fiberglass resins and epoxy may not stick to it very well.
Oily woods just need a good wipe with paint thinner or alcohol and the oils come out. Glued up many teak and Ipe bows that's are still shooting great years later.
I have White Labrador Retriever and he have killed 5 Bunnies till now.
Don't shoot rabbits it's unfare
Dog eats rabbits, I eat rabbits...they populate like crazy because Mother Nature intended them to die as a food source for predators. Humans are predators. Plus they are delicious!
@@mainelyprimitive but they are not meant for that video. He could have. Bought a rabbit from market
@@officialarnabchakraborty5865 why waste money when you can get it your self 😅😅😅🤣
@@officialarnabchakraborty5865 Market rabbit are killed by a more cruel way.
why You hunt rabbits? If Rabbits are not food?
Ummm.....rabbits are food....We kinda live by if we can catch it, kill it or drag it to the wood stove, it gets eaten.
Lol rabbits are fopd
Is he purebred?
Yeah, pure as you can get. Ishi has a great pedigree with excellent bloodlines. Both his parents were imported West German Showline shepherds.
Must feel very rewarding training them then taking them on their first hunt and seeing it pay off...nice job man been wanting to get me a hunting buddy to go on my trips with me might invest in a dog I have a 4 year old boxer but he’s to lazy to want to train haha
It ia very rewarding to watch them learn and master the hunt! My previous shepherd was one of the best hunting dogs you could ask for, Ishi is well on his way!!!!
Man you was exited 😂 that made me lmao please give me more info on this I don’t know anyone else with a gsd that bhnts
I was very excited!! And when he was younger we always threw "puppy parties" when he did something good. Our dog season starts Sept 26 and Ishi is just over a year old now so he will be back at it with plenty more footage! The make great hunting dogs.
the doggo is like am verr proud
Ishi is gonna be a great hunting companion
He is well on his way! He will be starting with woodcock/ducks this year as well! Rabbits and grouse he is spot on with.
@@mainelyprimitive nice
What epoxy do you use?
I don't make fiberglass bows anymore but I was using smooth on ea40
Using a German Shepherd to hunt! I looked it up just to see if anyone would use this smart, loving breed to hunt. Two videos feature them: yours and another who hunted pheasant over them. I don’t know - a lab? Or a German Shepherd? Two great breeds.
Thanks for checking it out! And shepherds make great hunters! The natural herding instinct and high intelligence is a deadly combo in the woods. Ishi is my second, Gunner was my first and you could fill a truck bed with all the game that dog hunted during his days.
They are very smart, agile, strong, and have a good bite
both are brilliant choices, I've had 2 labs before and am working on my 9 week red lab. and I have to say Labradors are exactly what you want for water retrieving but either are a great option for hunting in general.
@@mainelyprimitive I use my GSD for flushing grouse into the trees. He always chases them into the trees where i cant shoot them out.
Cool video. That bow turned out beautifully! I wish you still sold those bamboo shafts. I got some to really fly nice once I got the spine weight right.
I do still make them I just shut down orders for a while because the raw tonkin I use kept being out of stock or unavailable. I'm planning on making a big buy of 10K-15K pieces when it's available again, that way I have plenty to work with and no out of stock issues like I do currently...
What did those poor rabbits do to you?? Murderer!!!! Just kidding. Good dog. My shepherd loves rabbits and squirrels.
Lmaoooo bout to say 😂. How hard was it to train ur dog to track squirrels? I’m getting one soon and want to use it as my squirrel dog to like tree and track squirrels
Good video..
Awesome video. That rabbit was almost as big as him. Ha.
Just about!! He was 6lbs at the time and the rabbits are 4 lbs. Ishi is much bigger now at 7 months old.
How old ? My is 9 weeks and I just got it yesterday and it will run off if I don't use leash. Or as it gets older t won't need leash around the property?
I have not had to much of a problem with Ishi running. One of the things I do in the woods is let him get ahead, then step off and hide. He panics and finds me. Teaches them to stop and check for you and not get too far ahead. Many pups run because their owners chase them too, it becomes a game to them and trains them to run away.
