"If you were waiting for the opportune moment, that was it."
I have been a DIYer for as long as I can remember. When I look at something I want, I don't think about where I might buy it. Oh, NO!! My pea brain is wired in such a way that I must figure out how to MAKE it. Sometime it works, sometime it flops. But the journey is always worth it. Come along with me while make a thing and be goofy in the process.

Those Viral Overalls but make it Halloween 🎃👻
As always I am super late to the trend party, but here it is... Some cozy cotton overalls with a busy print, just like the ones from this past summer. Only mine are DIY and Halloween.

Vintage 1940's overalls with Simplicity 8447 but BETTER (even though it is a reprint)
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Simplicity 8447 has been a bit of a controversy among vintage pattern enthusiasts because it isn't really an exact replica and the big is not graded to larger sizes all that well. And, while the pant legs aren't slim, they are no where near as wide as they should me. I made a few important changes to Simplicity 8447 to make it fit my body type and needs. The "walkaway" dress depends on having a well-fitted bodice, which makes it problematic for a fast project. You would have to know your needed bodice alterations before you started.
I love how your hat turned out, but not sure I could do this like you. But sadly I checked the link for WalMart (out of stock) 😭 Maybe they will have them again next year, and thank you for sharing this💜💜
At least by me, the summer hats tend to show up in the early spring. Best of luck finding something that will work for you. Thanks for watching! 🧡

I am a light Auburn Ginger and I'm going to do my own hair. Instead of buying a wig I'm going to just backcomb it up and try to do the buns and twist them up messy. The colors of my hair doing the exact right thing with the different highlights. You did a wonderful job girl thank you for the video.
Thank you much! I'm sure your natural hair will look so much better than a wig. I wish I had enough hair that I could, too.
Lovely.
Hi Robin. Greetings from Perth Western Australia. I just found your channel and I must say I enjoy it very much. You most certainly are an accomplished dressmaker. Please excuse my ignorance but what do you do with these Cosplay outfits you put so much luv and attention into? Kindest regards and cheers 🤗🐾
Hi there, and welcome! Honestly, most of my cosplays get worn for an event or two then go into long term storage for potential future use. But anything Ren Fair or Pirate, I love making pieces that are mix and match so that I can get as many wears out of them as possible. My local fair is 8 weekends, plus my husband and I love to go back to his home states fair, so we get a lot of use out of them. It is almost like just having a second wardrobe. Then my Winnie Sanderson Cosplay is one that just lives in an easily accessible place in my closet and is my go to for most costumed events. Thanks so much for dropping by.🎃
Those are cool!
Love it!
Halloween anything for the win!! Halloween everything for the win!!
In my opinion "but Halloween" is always a very good start for a project. Sadly I am not much into overalls myself (childhood trauma, probably), but they do look comfy as hell. Pun intended.
@KahoriFutunaka 💀👹🎃Puns are always welcome here! I get having an "ich" for an item of clothes. For me, it's very specifically knee-length skirts because of parochial high-school regs. It still gives me flashbacks of my 10th grade english teacher doing hem checks.
@@robinlarsendiy Hem checks? Did you go to school on a 1920's beach?! XD
@@KahoriFutunaka HAHAHAHAHA! Some days it did feel like it. Skirt hems had to be touching the ground while in an upright kneeling position.
Just a Quick Share>>> This video is filmed entirely before the arrival of Hurricane Milton. We are in central Florida, and while the eye of Milton went directly over us, we did not have any issues. Does your friction pen reappear in the cold?
Great Question! Maybe I will adress this one as a short or something. This can happen, and it can happen where it doesn't release with heat when first ironed. BUT if that does happen it comes out in the laundry. I have only had it happen to my mom once and we went on a deep dive with the science of heat reative ink. The thing that makes them misbehave is being exposed to prolonged UV light. The uv rays and slight temperature differece from sun light particularly alters the molecular structor of the ink. To prevent this from happening I store my temperature sensitive pens in a drawer and make sure they don't live in my pen/sissor cup. I always reccoment doing a test run of a pen on the fabric you are using. Hope that helps!
@@robinlarsendiy oh wow! Thank you for the comprehensive answer! I would definitely appreciate this being mentioned in a video, as I am in constant self-doubt 😅 Thank you for your reply, and what a fantastic coat! Incredible work ❣
I´m a black-navy blue-red kinda gal, but now I feel a terrible urge to wear... orange! Ahhhhh!
Black, navy and red would look amazing together! But I am always partial to Orange, LOL!
This is how I feel about quilts. There are quilters in my family, and the idea of cutting into something like that hurts my heart. I have always found communion and community with both the living and dead in my own sewing practice . In the last 6 months I've started to learn how to quilt and it's so wonderful to discover that I enjoy hand sewing the way my great grandmother did. Thank you for sharing this video ❤❤❤
Yes!!! The conection!! I love that you found a thread to tie you to your great Grandmother. My grandmother taught me to quilt and still at 92, she sits with the very first quilt she taught me while making. They may be chunks of fabric to someone else, but to us they are stories.
Beautiful quilt coat! Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Yes, using an antique quilt for a jacket makes me bad... it seems there are better ways to use old, antiques...
I am so glad I am not a lone on this one! 🎃
My thing is if the quilt is in such bad shape you wont use it then its too fragile to cut use as a coat. And if its whole, then why not just keep using it as a quilt? I have so many comfy, beautiful, warm quilts in my house between some hand me downs of my great grandmothers and my moms 30 years of quilting, even if i have guests or im sick, im never shosh a clean warm nights sleep. And now Im quilting. I cant turn perfectly functional quilts into a jacket i would hardly ever wear. Now making blocks to turn into a quilt. That makes sense to me. 😂
Love it!
Very cute. ❤
Thanks!
Such a cute project! The fabrics go incredibly well together and look very autumnal. I admit there were parts of the project during which I had no idea what was going on (I never used quilting things myself), but the finished jacket looks amazing!
Thanks! I have to admit, if you haven't quilted, it is a whole rabbit hole you could potentially go down... 🤣
This works perfectly. When you know how to qulit and do garments it's the best of both worlds. I made a hexie blazer for my daughter using a ton of scraps.
What a wonderful idea. I love hexie's, I bet it came out beautiful!
So excited to see you, and this project ❤❤❤
Aww, thank you!!
I’m wearing this exact dress right now! I also am making a second one now! I’m almost done with the hem, so will be able to wear it soon!
Wonderful!
This turned out so cute! I had doubts about how long it would take to make
this one really is a jiffy!
beautiful! where did you purchase the leather scraps from? thats a great price!
Hobby Lobby sells scrap bags by the pound!
So glad to see you are back with some autumn content, my favourite season! I think you did a very good job with the new shape, considering you had to make do without the proper equipment. Is it perfect? No. Does it still look witchy? You bet it does! The decoration is the cherry (or pumpkin?) on top :)
Thanks so much! Autumn is my favorite too, and I would live in it all year if I could somehow manage it. Thanks for watching 🎃🎃

Hi! Do you know where you got the belt buckles? I’m a HUGE pirates fan and I’m trying to Disneybound Redd for my trip and I’m STUMPED on belt buckles 🥲🥲🥲
The belt buckle is by a vendor on amazon named Mythrojan. There is a link to his shop in the video description but I don't know if she still makes that exact one. Couldn't hurt to reach out and ask... Otherwise you could try something like this.... amzn.to/4civKIN or amzn.to/3WH5jXv Best of luck on your belt hunt!!!
Thanks for a honest review of making and wearing the dress.
My pleasure 😊
love it! What a great project. The holster adds such character to your....character. You know? The distressing is a nice touch. I love all things Middle Earth so I'm also loving your hobbitty garb. I'll have to go look and see if you have a video on making that one. I would love to know more. It sounds like you have such a fun life and community.
aww, thanks so much!
I found you because of your Mary Sanderson skirts video and I'm here for it all now. I hadn't heard of this character yet, but I am facinated with your analysis of her costume and hearing the tricks Disney does. I guess I need to make myself into a pirate now 🤷♀
Aww, thank! Redd really is a minor character and if you aren't a park goer, wouldn't even think of her. I am a park rat, so even the minor characters are special to me. 🏴☠️🦜
I'm comming in really late to the conversation but I've loved catching up on all your Hocus Pocus content. I've learned a lot from you and you make me laugh. My favorite witch of all time is maybe Morgana from Merlin. But the Sanderson Sisters as a unit are right up at the top.
Welcome! I am so glad you are enjoying the content. Morgana is another great one 🦇🦇🎃👻
These are so cute! I also so love the personal name patch! I hope it's ok to ask on sizing that you used/or made for you? I am asking because I have never made any clothes for my self, and it seems like the patterns/sizing are not easy 🥺And also I keep seeing others that know how to change or up-size patterns, I hope you can help me? Thank you for sharing this
Hi there friend! Thanks so much for watching. For myself, I make a size 18 and have a 45 inch bust. I always find that it is easier to select my Simplicity and McCalls patterns by that measurement because it is my widest point and then take it in where it needs to. Trial and error. BUT that is not the case for everyone and every brand pattern. If you look on the pattern back, there is a chart that shows you yardage. Down at the bottom of the charts, there is a list of finished sizes. You want to aim for somewhere in between the "Yardage size" at the top and the "Finished size" depended on how much "ease" or wiggle room you want. Take these overalls for instance. the waistband is supposed to sit at your natural waist. You wouldn't want the ease of a pair of jeans to be too much more than an inch. So if your natural waist is 32 you want to make the size that indicates the finished size is 33 or somewhere in that ballpark. Mock ups are essential to getting it right. You can make adjustments directly on your mockup, then use the mock up as your new pattern pieces. I hope that helps! Best of luck to you 🧡
@@robinlarsendiy Thank you for your help
Those are really, really cute!
thanks!
Thank you so very much for including the pattern & supplies information. Looking forward to trying the dress out for myself. You have great taste in patterns!
I love this! I bought the pattern on a whim, and then forgot about it, and found it again when hunting for a wrap dress pattern… not realising how much fabric is needed, I’m thinking of doing just the skirt separately!
Oh, what at great idea!! I hope it works out <3
I’m so glad I found this video, I picked up this pattern because I too fell in love with it and found cheap fabric but I’m a beginner so this dress will be set aside until I figure some things out. 😂
best of luck, friend!
It's very cute. I am in a jumper dress making mood. I love the pockets! I'm a big fan of A-line dresses for comfort, it's cute with the belt too.
3:39 😂😂 You good, doggo? ❤❤❤
I'd love to see you do this again now that you have the pattern trace and your familiar with how to put the dress together!
