Hi there. I can't speak for all countries but it should work if the wallbox is supplied in the same country as the i8. For instance, in in NZ we use the Type-2 IEC62196-2 and IEC62196-3 connectors, and the regional wallbox has a compatible plug.

Yes I had to do this when I set up the charger initially. There wasn't really any trick to it. If I recall you just scan the QR code that comes with the Box with the service app installed. It's been a while so my recollection is a bit fuzzy.

I have been trying that. It keeps asking me though to provide the code “displayed” on the charger to pair the Bluetooth and then I get into a cycle of trying to login using admin and the QR code and the prompt for the code

Hey there. Congratulations on your new car! It depends on the unit that ships with the IX in your country. In Australasia our portable charger is a trickle charger that is intended for a regular household outlet. In other markets the IX ships with the BMW flexible fast charger, in which case a dedicated L2 charger may not be required since the flexible fast charger can charge at up to 9.6kwh.

Things may have progressed since this was a couple of years ago now, but ultimately the aftermarket manufacturers cannot add the same level of anti-glare coatings as the OEMs for some reason. Maybe it's just too expensive. The piggyback units are also getting better and better all the time. Heck, there are ones now that use the CarPlay protocol to project an entirely custom Android solution onto BMW iDrive. Those solutions are also cheaper and easier to install since they require no disassembly.

Mine works perfectly. I installed it myself too. Often times the electricians installing them do not configure the dip switches correctly. In most cases they leave the unit on "authorisation" mode which requires you to authorise before charing, but since there is no app to do that yet you cannot use the charger. Reach out to your local dealership for the installation instructions and ask your electrician to double check the settings.

@@NZCarGuy thanks for the response! I just got my x1 a few weeks ago and am still figuring things out. It’s not an ix1 but I assume it has these as well!

The tabs that grip the charger inside the wallbox are a tad too “grippy”. You can remove the insert from the wallbox, flatten the tabs slightly and then reinstall. I did this day one since I was having a similar issue with the charger feeling “stuck” in the wallbox.

I may be wrong but the Peugeot and Citroën versions are just jets mounted on the wiper arms. BMW (and Mercedes) are more complex in that they spray water in the direction of travel when the wash function is active.

@@NZCarGuy you know, even though I own a Pug with them, I actually never checked the way the system is mounted... so, you might even be right! all I know is that when I spray the water on the windshield, it comes out on the blades itself and that it works/cleans the windshield regardless of the blade's movement direction ... and that it uses far less water than conventional nozzles, because the windshield liquid container is much smaller than in other cars

Also Volvo and even Nissan have this.

Hello Denise. It depends on the connector fitted to the charger. The charger is generic in that it can charge any car with a compatible connector :-)

There have since been newer units developed with larger displays that claim to hAve anti reflective coatings but none of them look like they’ll do the job as well ad the OEM screen. In the end I opted to do a full iDrive NBT retrofit and later added a Carplay/Android Auto interface. Worked like a charm.

I just installed one today. There was no manual inside box and the car wasn't available. By the way I am only the installer and I got a blue solid light on the wall charger. The owner now is telling me that isn't charging. I know there was dip switches to be set but with no manual I couldn't set them up. Any help? This is a US models with 240v single phase

Hello Marios. I don’t believe there’s an app available yet. As far as I’m aware there is an app available in Japan but not for the global market. For now you’re better off leaving the charger set to not require authorisation for charging.

Hi Luis. I'd love to but the Gen 3 wallbox is not yet available in the USA. It's not on any of the part diagrams yet. According to BMW USA's website "The BMW Wallbox (Gen 3) will be available by the end of 2022 from your BMW Center." www.bmwusa.com/charging.html

Airmatic failures are expensive, so if you get a car equipped with it be sire to have funds available for repairs. Check out Arnott Industries for pricing on replacement airmatic struts. Even without airmatic the CLS is a comfortable ride though.

They are good for coupes and gran coupes but not for Convertibles

Thanks for the comment. Did you change them yourself? If so I think that the car needs to be connected to Mercedes STAR SDS in order to initialize the new struts. Best bet would be to reach out to a MB dealer or specialist Indi shop.

Thanks for the comment. Anything is possible with enough funds and time for research and development. I have seen recently that there is a new unit on the market that mimics the latest iDrive7 interface. In the end, I removed the unit and did a retrofit to the newer iDrive NBT., and I'll be adding a Unichip Android Auto/Apple Car play box next.

Thanks for the comment. It really is a decent system and also a relatively cost-effective way to update the car's cockpit tech. I wasn't happy with the compromises, but others might find them not to be compromises at all. I did an NBT retrofit instead :-)

Thanks for the comment. The car switches to the rear view/surround view automatically when you shift into reverse. Also switches when you press the camera or PDC buttons on the centre console.

Thanks for the comment. To answer your question, sadly no, as they would all face similar challenges with the data bus in the 6er. Steering wheel track controls won't work. You won't get any track information either. All this is due to AUX being used for audio input. More complicated solutions are technically possible but would require hardware and RND time that would make any such solution uneconomical. If you are only after Car Play/Android Auto then there are a couple of solutions available. In the meantime I am about to document retrofitting NBT into my 6er since my original screen broke, and the cost of a retrofit is less than the cost of just that old CIC screen.

What options do I have to get Android auto on my 2014 f06 ?

I purchased a AVINUSA multimedia 10.25 for 2013 f12. Installed everything works fine except I can not use my IDRIVE for any function, & can not get the rear view camera to switch over when using the android side. Any ideas on how to solve this?

@@NZCarGuy Does the steering wheel work when you use it in stock/NTG mode and not the Android interface?
