Silfra, Iceland - Dive Between Continents
I have one arriving tomorrow!!!!
Great Preview! 🫶 I got a MK3i 43mm since 5 days, I chosen the small one, because I love to swim, the 53mm would have been too heavy and big to me. It's a great watch. They are not cheap, but imagine you love doing sports (swimming, running etc.) and diving, you would need something like an Apple watch and a dive computer, or an Apple watch ultra, but if you plant to go beyond AOWD, you are limited with the ultra, but MK series would be your mate even as a tec diver, so if you compare everything they aren't this expensive anymore. 😮
The best feature is how it reflects the light off the ceiling, Cheers for showing that
Cool video! Never used a rebreather, how is it different?
@@petethehandyman9185 it's super quiet and you don't have to worry about your air that much. That's the biggest difference
Thank you
Epic!
Thank you
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@ruzamihaljevic2419 thanks!
What beach are you at?
I really can't remember which one it was one of the parks that was on the map and it was reasonably near the airport
It looks beautiful! I still remember that crazy storm that washed the parking lot into the quarry and destroyed the viz 😂 good times
We bought these and thoroughly regret the purchase: The Dive app will not open unless you have an LTE or wi-fi connection. The Connect app is completely cloud-based (all data disappears when not connected to at least LTE) so if you are on a live aboard boat you have nothing. The underwater messaging is gimmicky and within another menu so not very practical under water. Garmin support is abysmal. 45 minutes, 20 minutes and over two hour wait times this week alone. And then, even though you selected the option for the Descent MkIII, you get general customer service who doesn't know the watch well. They told me that there are very few people at Garmin who actually know the watch. The bezel is soft and scratches easily. The base of the transmitters are wider than other transmitters and won't fit on some octos without a pigtail. We really regret buying these.
I think the Mark 2 was not a touch scren. It also wasnt very bright.
The mark two was bright for the technology of the time but you are right, they had not perfected the touch screen for the abuse dive gear tends to take.
can you use the maps while freediving and spearfishing? like I want to save a coordinate and find it later on or check my location while im in the water
I'm not sure we are not really that into freediving and the maps is relatively new feature to me I know you can use it on the surface but I'm not sure about how to apply and Diving
@@diversync Thank you for the quick reply . I meant a scenario im on the surface somewhere in the ocean. can I save a spot and find it later on my watch?
@@enaliospearfishing Yes you can. If it were scuba you would just wait for the dive end and it would do your last spot. You can also end the dive and save your location!
@@enaliospearfishing yes. The part I'm not sure of with the apnea in spearfishing parts of the app is if you have to stop the dive between Dives. Other than that it will do exactly what you want it to
How to reset it, my garmin have a trouble like this
Press and hold the top left button and the lower right bottom button simultaneously until the watch resets. It takes about 40 seconds
Thanks for the video. Have you found that the smaller display of the 43mm hinders visibility during dives or changes the available metrics to display? I am looking to replace my Epix Pro 47mm as a daily wearer and fear the mk3 51mm is a tad bit too large. Thanks!!
For those people using the smaller display that might need it to be a little bit larger use the function that was added after this video called big numbers . It requires some functionality changes in the screen order but it's a setting that's easy to do. My wife uses that but my kids have no problem with the regular screen
How does the screen brightness and size compare to the Shearwater Teric?
The big one is slightly smaller than the teric and not as bulky. Brightness can be adjusted but the brightest setting is about equal. The two computers do not compare in functionality. The Garmin does way more
@@diversync Thank you for the information and quick response. I'm SERIOUSLY contemplating selling my Teric for the MK3i after watching your videos.
You don’t decompress for an hour for a 100 ft dive.
It was a 100m dive, 330ft
So its an epic pro in a different case and $600 more?
An epic Pro won't take you scuba diving. This has all the hardware to do a 100 m dive
Saw lots of marine life there from seahorses to manta rays!
It is one of our favorite places for that very reason! No manta rays yet though! So happy you saw them
how did you make the flashlight red, or was that just the camera angle?
The upper left button takes you to a menu with the flashlight icon. You can make it red and dimmer there. On the big watch the top left double clicks to turn the light on then the up down buttons dims and mskes it go red
@@diversync The upper left button double click does in fact turn the flashlight on, however, I have found that moving the up and down buttons does nothing to reduce intensity or change to red. I have to go into the flashlight app, and from there I can vary the intensity or change to red...I have the 51mm
@@c.patricksadowski9959 I just put a new update on it yesterday and I can tell you that I was actually surprised by it. I did it by accident this morning so maybe run an update or you might have to wait until my update is released to everybody
@@c.patricksadowski9959 I just tried it and it didn't work so maybe it only works in sleep mode
Does the D7-EVO weigh more than the D7-X Nylotech? If so, does the D7-EVO weigh more than the D7-Cordura? Will the diver feel less mobile in the water wearing the D7-EVO as compared to the D7-X Nylotech? When will the D7-EVO be available in Europe and the U.S. ?
It felt about the same as the D7 Nylo Tech. So a little bit lighter than the D7 Cordura in a little bit more flexible
@@diversync , thanks! That is exactly how the Water Proof Support team described the D7-EVO too.
Great video, got a quick question, what languages does it support out of the box? Does it support displaying Chinese characters? Thanks.
I'm not that familiar with the languages that are available but I know the watch comes in an Asian Pacific version as well as the Western one my guess is the AP version has what you're looking for but I've never seen one
Waiting 1 year for this and absolutely love it. I will do my purchase
We can help!! Thanks for watching
No shade to the presenter, but it would have been nice to see the watches.
Check out our other video... we go into detail
They do make a stainless with a gray band, but it’s not air integrated.
That is not an mk3... mk3 are all air integrated
OUTSTANDING. Where was this?
That particular segment of video was taken at salt pier at the bottom of the reef
I’m flying to Bonaire tomorrow myself for MOD 2 on my O2ptima CCR.
Hope you are enjoying the island as much as we are!
I bought a MK2s back in October with the MIP screen. How does the screen compare? Good outside? I guess comparing to your MK2 is the question. I do like the MIP screen outdoors a ton.
MK2 screen is really good OLED screen on the new one is way brighter and appears crisper
Would buy Garmin once the abandon the Sonar Transmitter. The noise they make underwater is unbearable. You dive to be relaxed and in nature, only to hear the chirping noise of your Garmin.
I'm not sure that you would ever get a Garmin then. You're making the Assumption you can hear the chirping noise which I've never heard unless I've set the power to maximum and then listen for it. It sounds like The Reef in the ocean, and in The Lakes it's not usually noticeable except as bubbles. It is a super high frequency so unless you have abnormally good hearing I would not expect it to disrupt your dive.
I have spent a couple of Dives now trying to get my cameras to record the sound. Even with my Sonar turn all the way up I can't hear it unless I'm actually touching the transceiver. I hope I can come up with something to show you that it's not that bad, The Reef is way louder
@@diversync thank you, you've spent a significant amount of time and effort trying to help me and I appreciate it. You're great! And also, you're probably a curious mind which led you to test. I believe you cannot hear it. However, I have personally heard it when I dive with those that use Garmin transmitter. I could be an anomaly...I had my hearing checked a year ago and I can hear high pitch frequencies. So it could just be I'm unlucky enough that I can hear the transmitter and thus can't buy Garmin. The person that uses it told me "you get used to it" which leads me to think he also hears it but doesn't care. Again, thanks!
The T2 transmitter is supposed to make less noise than the T1, after having dived with it, how do you feel the sonar noise is? How does it compare to the T1 if you have that comparison? I have been holding off getting any of the Garmin dive computers, because I want air intergration, but have heard about the dreaded constant annoying beep. Also trying to do UW photos and videos, I can't see how that would not annoy the fish. What is your experience.
I would like to know as well. I'm staying away from Garmin until they move away from sonar based TX
If I was ever able to hear it it would be a series of clicks and it is not a big deal nothing that you would ever even notice if you were diving open circuit and only rarely if you're diving closed circuit. If you are waiting for Garmin to move away from sonar you are going to be waiting a very long time since that is a Direction they are going because of everything cool that they can do with that.
The sound is not constant nor is it something that I can hear all the time and since you've asked about it I listened for it today and heard it only twice and I'm diving a CCR. I doubt you would ever hear it over the bubbles
mk2i and mk3i are not the same. there is 1mm difference that is big deal, as now the silicone protector for fenix 5x fits perfectly the new mk3i. Also the screen size is exactly the same, stating the mk3i has bigger screen is totally wrong.
The body and case are the same size but it appears that there is less bezel areond the actual screen making it a touch bigger.
@@diversync not sure what your perception of space and size is, but literally mk3i is smaller...screen is the same. the bezel is smaller. it is noticeable especially when next to each other...
"ridiculous" as in ridiculously good or ridiculously bad?. think the 3 i 51 mm is 1 mm smaller than mk2 , not same size- thanks for info
Ridulously good.... the screen is smaller but sitting next to each other I can't see a size difference the real estate is made up by extending the screen a little bit further out making the bezel a little bit smaller on the MK3
"PromoSM"
I'd like to buy the Mk3i but I am wondering if there will be a Mk3i Pro coming in 6 months, similar to the how the Quatix 7 Pro and Tactix 7 Pro were released a little later with the newer Heart Rate v5 sensor Any thoughts ?
I'm not Rich (author) but one thing that's noticeably missing from the mk3i is the sensor that's in the Epix (gen 2) Pro models, which also does ECG. I'm guessing it's due to price and would have sent the price over the edge for what's already an expensive watch (maybe deservedly so). The sensor on the Mk3i looks to be the same as what's on the Epix 2 before the Pro models came out with a new sensor that also does ECG (may be the v5 you're referring to?). So, you could be right that in a bit (a year?? although the descent releases are much less frequent than any other line) they'll release a MK3 with the upgraded sensor but there's no way to know imo. Given that the sensor is in production, it seems like they could have included it on the mk3 from a technical standpoint.
@@DaveStern2 Yes, the Mk3 has the same v4 HR sensor as is on the Epix 2 and Fenix 7 Series (non Pro). Not that there is anything wrong with it, it works perfectly fine on my Descent G1 and Forerunner 965, but considering the Venu 3 has v5 HR sensor at a 3rd of the cost, it would have been nice for the Mk3 to get the latest one too. A person from Circle H Scuba was at DEMA and they asked Garmin why. They said the v5 HR sensor was not available for testing when development started on the Mk3, which potentially could be true since the Mk series are on a 3 year refresh cycle, where as most other Garmin watches refresh every 2 years.
@@marcojm9makes sense. Too bad!
I'm not sure what we're allowed to chat about with our NDL but we are not aware of another mk3 even though a couple of fake sites put one out there
Thanks for the video. Do you know when will the watch be available?…the Garmin website currently indicates 5-8 weeks…
That timeline is about right. For those of us that ordered them really early we have received a few of them which sold right away. Our next shipment is going to be the middle of the month say 3 to 5 weeks from now is probably generous
great video!! looking forward to more information on these watches!
Thank you... trying to get some underwater video next week
Thanks for the video. What size are you wearing?
I wear the 51mm I like big watches

Thanks for the info Rich, great to see a short informative video layign out the new changes for the Descent Mk3
You are welcome! Thanks for listening to the podcast and videos!
Hola, gracias por el vídeo. ¿El de 43mm se ve muy pequeño en la pantalla de buceo? Gracias, un saludo desde Madrid, España 🇪🇸.
It is smaller out of necessity but as long as you can read it you will have all the information. The screens are customizable and you can put big numbers on all screens except the CCR mode. Sorry if there are mistakes in my grammar, Spanish is not my native lanquage.
Oh great, thank you very much for responding!! Now I have the MK2, I might be interested in the MK3 for the low price, but I don't like that the battery lasts only 4 days with the screen on, which is how I would like. I hope for more reviews about the MK3/i, although I don't know English, I use the translator and subtitles to watch the videos. Thank you very much again. Greetings!
Thank you for the video. For me the 51 mm is too big for everyday wear so I ordered the 43 mm but it's a bummer that it doesn't have the flashlight.
It does the same thing it's just not as bright. It will still he useful to you
I have a small wrist and would never go back down from a 51mm, break your psychological barrier
@thisis.Jean. but price is abit of a problem
I have a 7.5 in wrist and 51 is huge. For me to wear it everyday without looking like a weirdo, it needs to be 46m, which is still a large watch but it’s not ridiculous. I’ll wait for a mid size that I can get a lot of use out of.
