Going into this series, I was banking on exploiting some of SEA's habits. Between the repetitive structure of their pre-tournament dump teams and their insistence on Chu Sun teams in prior rounds, I had them as a player who was going to set a standard and run with it as long as they can get away with it. With no clue on how to optimize Victreebel/Shiftry and zero confidence in outplaying in a mirror, I settled on trying some CB mons that could ravage the teams' lack of backbone. Then Banette happened. I'd never given a thought to that thing before. Why would I? Nobody used it. Probably for good reason; it's slow. But between it and Pidgeot to ignore my all-in Spikes Persian plan, I just couldn't wrest momentum from an early deficit. And that's just been the story of ADV RU for me; don't be at a deficit. With all the trade tools, revenge killing Rapidashes, and 2HKOs, it's easy to stay ahead once you get ahead. And that's why I'm probably not gonna use Glalie much anymore; it's hard to feel like Spikes are worth it when you're getting OHKOed/2HKOed by any half-decent non-Water and you've given up a mon's worth of defensive value in the process. I loaded the second team just so I could say I brought Golbat to finals. Played it terribly, had no reason to throw Ninetales away like I did. Once the Hypno started doing its thing I just checked out. I thought that thing was easy to bully, why was I doing so little to it!? Again, a complete blindside that I couldn't learn much from in the moment. I was not happy. Still, I signed up expecting to maybe last a round or two, so I shouldn't hate myself too much. I got this far by being in-tune with what the best players were doing, but now even that is undergoing upheaval with the sun hype and rumblings among my RUWC teammates. This tier has far to go yet.
