Trail Shreds
Новая Зеландия
Добавлен 27 ноя 2021
Get ready to see some of the best MTB trails New Zealand's got to offer!
I started mountain biking near the start of the pandemic around March 2020, and you'll most often see me riding in Woodhill and Rotorua because I go to Rotorua pretty often and Woodhill is my local bike park. Also, you may come across some of my videos being in places like Queenstown and 440 here and there. In case you're curious, I've been riding a Zerode Taniwha Mullet since September 2023. On this channel, I often post videos of everything from trail POV's to overcoming my fear and sending jumps I've never done before. In terms of my upload schedule, I post shorts every week and full length video's every weekend (most of the time, so don't think that I died if I skip a week of uploading).

Why I Switched Back to Flats After Only 1 Month on Clips
In this video I go into detail on why I decided that clips are not for me. The main wake up call for me to switch back to flats was my last Rotorua visit as it revealed to me how inconvenient clips can be in a place like that when you're not used to clips.

My Experience Riding on Clips for the First Time
Просмотров 838Месяц назад
In this video I do my first ever ride on clip pedals. The reason I decided to switch to clips is because I like the benefits of the climbing efficiency and I was having trouble getting my foot into a comfortable position on flats so with clips that problem should be solved. Bikes and trails have changed too. On my Epic and Stumpjumper from early 2000's (Before you were born! hahah!) they were of benefit. When I was in the Alps and getting trail tips and guiding from Emily Horridge (Name drop!) they were dropping out of favour. Bikes were getting bigger and my Stumpjumper was doing well to even keep up. Current bikes have flats and I prefer them too. I still feel attached.
Wheel went left but the handle right😢
I’ve been pretty much though the same process
I’m just lazy. No special footwear. I just ride with whatever I happen to be wearing. I’ve even ridden in sandals. I would forget my clipless shoes.
🤨
Awesome video mate! I personally used to only ride flat pedals (which was strange considering I race XC), and one afternoon decided to give clips a go and haven't looked back since. For me my riding improved extremely quickly leaving me with more confidence on the technical descents and jumps, and being easier to go uphill. Also when I switched, my XC race results improved like crazy so I don't think I'll even think about flats ever again! But obviously if you're not racing then just riding what you feel comfortable on is the way to go
Yeah I imagine that for xc they could be a lot better but for me, confidence is key and the clips failed to give that to me.
I would definitely hold onto the pedals and shoes, you can always swap back if you feel like giving it another go! Being able to ride both is pretty useful 🙂
Yeah definitely will keep them, not sure when I'll have the courage to try them again tho 🤣
Awesome video its a bit of a coincidence cause I recently had a close call with my clips on a tight trail and now I'm planning on riding flats for the week to see if i want to switch back. Can't wait for your south island trip there's gonna be some great videos if you ever visit Nelson I'd love to show you around the local trails!
Thanks, yeah clips can scare you. I am planning to check out some Nelson trails so that could be sick!
Hey thats mean you rode with dads army. Must of been awsum was wondering if you would bump into them at some point.👌👍🤙😎
Thanks, every time I run into dad's army it's a good day!
And easy to do tricks 😁 i rather be free on the bike than stuck to the bike.
I'd say one handers are actually harder on flats as your feet can fly off but I'm sure it's better for one footers.
I think you should be careful on steep hills and it's raining and you break because more the chances increase to injury
Yeah for sure, not having a rear brake definitely didn't help me there as well.
Did bro really use his front brakes😂 if so....he needs to relearn some stuff, NOT TO MENTION USING FRINT BRAKES ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE IS CRAZY
My rear brake wasn't working so yeah I did use my frond brake.
@trailshreds if ur gonna use it slowly apply it. U js gripped it. I've used front brakes to slow on gravel b4 since my back ones blew off n shi on my dirtbike. Plus why go quick when yk u don't got no back brakes
And that is why you wear a full face and eye protection. Especially in those conditions
Yeah that might have been a good idea.
You did almost wipe into the tree back there.😎
Back where?
Haha going so fast didnt see it near those pads or when you hit that corner. So close to the tree before you actually fell off.😎
Your first problem riding in the wet 😁. Did they lighten your bike any more.😎
Yeah bit slick that day, also they did lighten my bike but didn't notice much difference on the trail.
Sick vidio🔥🔥🔥
I chickened out of that school roller drop it's definitely worse in real life. There's new tracks here, a grade 5 cliffhanger and a grade 6 maverick if you are interested
Yeah that drop is no joke. Cool that there are some new tracks, might have to come back sometime!
Hey man do you use the padded chesty. Cos i use the gopro plastic shield harness and thats really vibraty if you know what i mean. So does the padded chesty absorb some of the bad movement out as you are filming. I notice you and some others dont shake as much. Wondering if that may be what i need
Im pretty new to all this video buzz 😁. Im noticing a few things so just getting info to help my vids come out clearer.👌
Yeah I do use the padded one, I'm not sure about the stabilization as when it's dark it looks pretty terrible bit I don't feel an vibrations.
@@trailshreds awsum thanks man yea i do think its like an absorbtion pad aswell cos your vids are pretty semi stable. Plus i think with mine you can hear all the rattling around from the clip in belt.and that sux 😁
Going to miss that rowdy neighbor 😢
Yeah, sad it's only been there for 2 years and already gone.
Was this on the wednesday late nite.i was out there when it rained haha.was fun tho.the tracks were running a bit slow.👌
I'm not sure but I know it was like a month ago.
Sweet as algdz.👌
I saw u here last weekend!!!
No way!!!
But yea that sucks they are tree felling back there. Its gona mess things up a bit. Im still going to ride some trails there its algdz. Plenty more parks to ride around north. Nice riding and funny small fall.slow mo.😁
Yeah, sad that some of the best tracks will be gone. Yeah that was a funny fall, just couldn't unclip 😂
Funny how you just stop then say hello to that kid.😁. Just like quickly get up and be on my way.👌
👽👻👹🙈💯
next time i go to the park im definitely hitting track the ripper
Yeah, the re built of it looks pretty sick.
These looked mad.nice job.👌
That was some insane terrain mate.😁
Yeah some tracks were a bit spicy!
I would like to get those top jumps done cant do the step down but want to try 1 of those gaps at the bottom 2
Most features on this line are pretty easy. Just try to watch out for the wind.
Yea i caught some guys on my vids doin 360s and filps was a bit windy dont know how they did that maybe just a light wind and that was on the mulch jump. Have you done that 1 yet.👌
Oh and i cleared most of the jumps on how good vids popping up soon. Daily limit reached etc.😁
Its that first step down drop aswell.need that confidence booster ive looked over these many times. I went out wednesday not best of days but got some runs in.🤙
Hey i seen you rode parihaka. If you watch the northland mtb boys they show you all the tracks. Plus i saw how unmaintained they were thats shocking.😁
Yeah i was thinking of coming back. I know some trails got a tickle up.
Nice i wana go north and ride some trails up those ways aswell cos they all around my ways just the weather and picking the right days to get there.🤙👌
You should make full vid on backyard
Maybe if I change something on it.
Nice vid
Thanks 🤘
🔥
Your old one
How much could I buy your bike for
Probably like 2.5k. Sorry, but it's not for sale.
Last day of the holidays was like 5 weeks ago lol
What no way.
Are all those trails down over the back of the forest.👌
Depends on where you count the back.
@@trailshreds i would say the point behind when you get up the driveway where av8a and chicken run are down that other side over the back.
Oh no did you go out today.😁
Nah, way too wet, bit sick of washing my bike 🤣
@@trailshreds haha i know what you mean.i hate aswell. But nice to keep the bike in good condition for next runs.👌
Nice
Clips are good 👍🏼
Yeah, definitely better than flats on decents and climbing.
Awesome vid the fall at 2:46 was quite funny but it looks like you're getting pretty good at clipping out, I just installed my new pair of clipless pedals yesterday and tried them out a little a bit. It's too wet for a ride at the moment but so far just trying them in the garage they're feeling a lot better than the crankbrothers ones.
Yeah that fall was quite funny, really getting used to clips now which is good.
Yea i hope you got your wheel fixed up that was pretty bad riding with loose spokes your wheel couldve easily folded at any time.👌🤙😎
I think I got it fixed, can't quite remember 😅
@@trailshreds 😁😁😁👌
Haha i think av8a is the scariest i wouldnt do it on my hardtail tho. Yea im not into those kinda trails yet some of the features are cool. I like flowy jump lines. Cool vid tho.👌🤙😎
That looks seriously intense.😎👌
You are so fast down those trails! Shimano make a beginner cleat which make it easier to get clipped out, could be worth a look!
Thanks, I feel like no matter how fast I go, I still could be faster tbh. Also I'm quite used to unclipping at this point so probably don't need the beginner cleat, but thanks for the suggestion!
I saw you at woodhill today
Did I see you?
@@trailshreds maybe i was on a norco range with orange deity bars at the top of how good and ava8
What is your gopro set to as in fps and view.
30 fps and super view, makes me look faster than 60 fps 😂
@@trailshreds sweet as im on 48 and med might change the view
What day were you out here mate. Im heading out to woodhill within a couple weeks.
Saturday probably.
@@trailshreds was that last saturday
Awesome video when I started riding clips it was terrifying and I also had trouble with my left foot not unclipping. I just ordered a new pair from a different brand after riding some crank brothers ones for 4 months. Good luck and hope you don't have too many falls!
Thanks, luckily I've pretty much stopped falling over at this point so that's good!
Flying bro!
@HuckHope Thanks! New pedal confidence I guess 🤣
No matter how good a corner looks clay in the wet 🙅♂️
Yeah, idk why I trusted this one 🤣
Are you ok?
I went out after it had rained and i had tires with hardly any grip i was sliding everywhere couldnt make up hills it was that bad. Jus had to go slow as. Got really dirty and had to load bike into the car.😁👌🤙
Where were you riding. I was riding at totara park.😎
@MattCullen-vanti Te miro in Cambridge, yeah totara isn't great in the wet either.
Great video, yikes on the fall! That clay can be like ice. So yeah, good luck on the next one
Thanks, yeah you do gotta watch out for the slippery bits!
Do u go to school
Of course.
