We the willing
Led by the unknowing
Are doing the impossible
For the ungrateful.
We've done so much
With so little
For so long,
We are now qualified
To do anything
With nothing.

Are doing the impossible
For the ungrateful.
We've done so much

Flowers Through The Sidewalk (The story of Los Blancos).
This is a non-narrative 20-minute documentary about a Syracuse-based roots music band called Los Blancos. I filmed and interviewed the band over the course of a few months for a project for school. In 2006, I had the opportunity to study broadcast journalism at Syracuse University. One day, I stumbled on a man named Colin Aberdeen playing an acoustic set at a local bar. He was smart, easygoing, and a soulful musician. You can’t fake the wisdom earned from a life that has been lived. One thing that immediately demonstrated his character was a simple gesture he made while playing his set. My old buddy from 2nd Force was in the area, and he met me at the bar to hang out.
He kept asking Colin...

Always Beside You (Acoustic Live)

Filmed in 2021, and done in one take in an empty amphitheater in Nago, Okinawa. I used three cameras and blended the audio together. I shot B-roll on site and added in some footage I took during a dive of the USS Emmons off the northern coast of Okinawa. At the time, I was inspired by the many amazing human beings in my life and all the good I saw old friends doing online.

In 2006, I was still on active duty, but I had the opportunity to attend Syracuse University for one year to study advanced broadcast journalism. That December, I was part of an honor detail for a Marine Corporal named Tyler Steele Leidig. He had recently returned from Iraq but was killed on December 23 in a car accident. He had just married his childhood sweetheart in a secret wedding and was ...

From 2007 to about 2014, I recorded and played shows with a group of interesting characters around Okinawa and Iwakuni, Japan. At the time, I was exploring the idea that you didn’t need a bass player to play live. Bands like The White Stripes, and The Black Keys were doing it, so why couldn’t I? I also knew bands like the Beatles and Bob Seger toured in their early years with no monitors. My or...

I worked with many interesting musicians through the years. On this night, the bass player that was sitting in was actually a guitar player who just wanted to play a live set, so he played bass. He was a lawyer at the time and he told me a great story about him moving to Nashville as a young man with every intention of "Making it" in music. He said the guy hooking up the cable in his apartment ...

Forgive the watermark. It would cost a fortune to license all the stock video. I recorded a version of this song just to do it. When I worked with a band in Okinawa, we had this song in out set list and it went over well with the local bar audiences. It's on iTunes on an album called Throwaway COA. music.apple.com/us/album/throwaway-coa/1703216247

This is probably from around 2013. The main musicians I worked with were incredibly versatile and they could adjust easily with whatever direction I asked them to go in. We rehearsed and recorded primarily around BC Street, so we used that area for this video. My guess is we were trying to get some kind of hotel gig, so we were going for a kind of "refined" look and delivery with this video. I'...

An honorable video for an honorable man. Rest easy Marine, we'll take it from here. I think I'll go hug my loved ones in Tyler's memory.
I like the song but is there anyway you could raise the vocal over the instrument... Maybe even a closer mic to your voice ... Great song though ... Just a thought 🤷♂️
💯
