E21 turbo m10 megasquirt walkaround
This is my little project e21. The motor is a 2.0 hand-built by me, along with the log style turbo manifold I built from scratch, a VW KKK K04 turbocharger, Megasquirt 2, and a complete suspension cut/built/and welded all by me.
Not many people put work into the E21 chassis, and I wanted something different - so here it is, after a couple years work - finally running.

First couple starts on a freshly built car. Running a VW hall effect sensor in the dizzy. 1.8L M10, Borg Warner KKK K04S from a MazdaSpeed 6, e30 M10 EFI manifold, 42lb injectors, Nuke Performance fuel rail, 3" mandrel bent exhaust from turbo-back (currently just an open downpipe). So much more, but I can't recall everything now. Please feel free to ask questions.

Audi B7 A4 2.0t tiptronic JHM stg1 tune. Test pipe, techtonic tuning downpipe, JHM HPFP. Thoughts and some runs.
Hey man, you got a write up of some sort for this build or something like that? I’m long looking to do something like this ASAP
This doggo is carguy himself you can see :)
Hey Shane, I'm way late to this party, but I'm curious about the fuel rail setup you've got. At 3:24, I see that it appears the injectors are straight. I thought the 318 manifolds have the injectors on a slight angle? I'm trying to get my 1983 320iS updated to EFI.
You're right. The e30 EFI rail has a slight angle to align with the manifold. This NUKE rail is milled straight and uses the flex in the o-rings to seal the verticle mounting. I DO NOT recommend it. It has been leak after leak. Use the stock e30 fuel rail.
@@Smitty_Does_Stuff Thank you for the quick reply! Time to go hunt for a fuel rail.
What size injectors are you running?
Hp?
How much hp?
What a magnificent machine!
This is not genuine alpina
Hermoso e 21!! , saludos desde Uruguay!!
stock internals??
Back in these days, yes. It was stock 1.8 internals. Ended up looking the ring lands on cyl2. Now it's a fully built forged 2.1L
Cool work man!!!!!
Thanks!
Turbo setup?
Sounds like a Renault 5 Turbo 👍😎
How's this build going?
Been sitting in storage for a few years. Life gets in the way. It's fully forged 2.1L now, gt 2876, group 2 widebody, etc etc. Just sitting, sadly
Hey man, badass car! I own the first Century Turbo e21 and I’d love to know what kind of exhaust you have for you car
I love the wheels, can you give me the name of the model? BBS right?
Best thing to do is 3inch down pipe a4 injectioners
How about b8
Did it ever have erratic automatic shifting with the tiptronic. I'm on the fence about chipping my b6 a4 tiptronic winter car.
nice clutch )
I know this is old, but Christ I appreciate that Darn Tough sticker. Also, that checkered head! The white is gorgeous
Thanks man! I still have her, stronger than ever
Hey man! Love your car! was there any threads you used to get your megasquirt hooked up? And was this a 1.8 or 2.0?
This was a stock 1.8 at the time. I don't have any threads, megasquirt was pretty easy. There's tons of forum support. Ive made major changes. It's now a fully forged 2.1L with a Garrett gt2876 at 25psi and Motec standalone
Shane Smith is your previous megasquirt set up, up for sale??
@@Smitty_Does_Stuff nice car!! hp??
@@mygoalcrash8077 currently, just over 400whp on the new setup. In this vid, power was like high 200's, IIRC 290.
Wow that sound! Exhaust?
I have an 83 320i and want to turn it into a fun back road car with a little more power than the average miata. Any tips on where to start?
You should get yourself a euro rear bumper
did you tune it yourself?
Of course. I do everything myself. Nobody gets their hands under my girls skirt.
badass build man. im trying to put two of them together myself haha what were the things that you had problems with?also did you ever get any numbers for how much it made? (sorry for all the questions)
@@mikaelhiatt In this setup the car made 225whp and 292wtq. It beat on EVOs, STIs, and an S4. The most difficult part is the tune for sure. I ended up cracking the ringlands due to some detonation at temp and having to build another engine. As things usually go, I went overboard and fully Forged the engine, bored and stoked to 2.1, 292* cam, gt2871 turbo, e85, Motec management. This new setup should do 450-500 pretty easily.
thats what i like to hear! (not the motor going though.) was the detonation just imperfections in the tune or did you find a catalyst? did you pick up the m10 1.8 or the 2.0? those are some healthy numbers cant wait to see that thing rip
@@mikaelhiatt the detonation was my fault... Mostly in the tune. I tuned for 93oct in Colorado temps of 80-90* f. Then drive it to Vegas for a car show where the temps are 115-120* f and the fuel is only 91oct. An expensive lesson learned... Octane, temp, detonation = time and $$$. This WAS a 2.0 motor
What exhaust muffler is this?
It's a k-sport, if i recall correctly.
rock the fuck out dude. Mind commenting on your suspension setup and exhaust? Looks and sounds... PERFECT.
I guess the setup in this video, as I see it has since changed. Great work.
David Ross you found everything you needed I guess?
What throttle body did you use? The stock m10 efi ones are tiny if I remember
2Step _Anti_lag this is an m50 throttle body.
Have a 320i with a 1.8 do you mind commenting the link on your thread wanting to do a mega squirt set up on it
Jimmy Rodriguez www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2180244-Fell-into-a-deal-too-good-to-pass-up-starting-a-new-project
Thank you
Head gasket type/brand? Piston ring gap? Who did you get your injection parts from? Thanks. Awesome ride!
Man I be pissed if got b7 without color display
Is the JHM HPFP needed
Yes, of course.
so for me to get a JHM Stage 1 Tune I would need to get a JHM fuel pump in order to get the tune to work I know about the Downpipe that's every tune but the way I was told was only like intake downpipe anjd you can get tune and no one never told me I need a HPFP for it too damn.
@@cambam2430 wrong. stage 1 does not require ang hardware at all. if you have a test pipe great. but not required for stage 1 tune.
how did you make to setup your car with the MS? I have a L-jetronic m20 and idk what to do :(
I used VW hall sensor/guts inside the bmw distributor. Efi intake manifold from a k-jet e21, and custom everything else
Love the finish on the timing cover
Hey I plan on doing this with my e21 320i, how was it? Difficulty wise and cost wise? I'm pretty new to cars and am kinda trying to learn as I go, any helps appreciated. Love the car
I did everything myself on this iteration of the build, and it still cost me about $3500. The new setup is over $6,000. my old stuff is for sale if you're interested
Beautiful car , what is the offset in your wheels?
Cassio Toledo I can't recall. I think they were et15, with a little 10mm spacer the effective offset was et5.
The exhaust system is on point. High compression in every cylinder ! Sounds like you need some racing tires.
So much has changed since last year. The motor is now a fully built 2.1L, 9.5:1, 292* cam, e85 with a Garrett GT2871R @ 25psi. It's also now a Group 2 body car. E28 M5 suspension and brakes under it now. Race tires are MANDATORY now. I'm running Toyo R888's.
@@Smitty_Does_Stuff how much power u making?
What size are your wheels ?
Those are 16x8
Can you post the links to where to buy all the goodies
Beautiful car! Amazing work! Enjoy it alot!
Pablo Segura thank you!
You have more info on how you got the dizzy to send a hall signal to the megasquirt?
Yes, we used the guts of a VW distributor inside the BMW housing. Took a little mill work and relocating, but it fits since all Bosche dizzy's of that era are essentially the same.
Exhaust?
Just saw your thread, really nice build. Just picked up a rare 320is Callaway, to restore, hoping your build helps me a bit with turbo ideas :) enjoy!
Beautiful sound, any build threads? Engine specs?
+SDdesigns2013 Thank you! It's been a work in progress. I'm far from done. As you can see, I'm burning a little oil. I'm unsure if this is the turbo, the PCV system, or the rings... but I'll keep at it. Build thread here: www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2180244-Fell-into-a-deal-too-good-to-pass-up-starting-a-new-project
looks like you need a thermostat
i got the same code. it was the low pressure fuel pump under the back seat
did the tune give you the mpg on the dash? I only have miles till empty
press the button on the end of the wiper stalk
What test pipe do you have?
HP / nm?
