In your description, you state that the new trucking industry had to be controlled. That’s because most senators had investments in the railroad industry. You stopped at 1935 and I did not give information on the most consequential statement of that. The 1935 motor carrier in conjunction with the fair labor. Standards act stated that truck drivers were exempt from overtime. This law has never been changed or revoked. Therefore the only way to make any type of decent wage you had to put in as many miles under your belt as you could and the best way to do that was go faster. Then in 1980 the government further stuck a knife into truck is Bex when they deregulated. Now they’re talking about setting speed limiter’s to a speed, they deem safe for the taking food out of drivers mouths . It is now a minimum wage job. How much lower can we go?

In this video I wanted to introduce the beginnings of regulations, started by the states. I will have a lot more including the Motor Carrier Act of 1935, after I am finished with details of state regulations. There is so much to cover that one video would never be enough. Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel.

The government is one of the main problems with the trucking industry today it has done nothing but making it harder to make a living in this industry. The over regulation of the industry has made it a job that people don't want to do

I drove at Yellow Freight in Burnsville MN and worked with drivers that had drove at Briggs. Yellow had taken over some of the Briggs terminals, Duluth MN, LaCrosse Wi, Lincoln Ne, Eau Claire Wi and so on. The linehaul manager at Yellow in Burnville Mn had worked at Briggs as the linehaul manager in Kansas City MO. I also worked for the local agent for Murphy Motor Freight Lines in Litchfield MN in high school and for a year after I graduated. Hyman Freight was also popular in the 70s and 80s until the 90s. One of our competitors while at Murphy was Quast Transfer from Winsted MN, My father drove for the first farmer owned cooperative shipping association called Litchfield Livestock Shipping Association, established in 1908. The farmers would bring their animals to Litchfield and they were loaded on the train for shipment to South Saint Paul MN. Finally they got a truck and when the railroad service was not reliable, in 1938 they made the first truck load directly to South Saint Paul MN. The cooperative lasted until 1978 when it was auctioned off and Mike Thomas bought the business. Mike and Gene's father was Deb Thomas and he had a fleet contracted to Lindsay Bros transporting farm supplies to dealers across the upper midwest. I have more information if you need it.

I really enjoy hearing the history of these companies, especially the LTL's that were so prevent when I was a kid (and avid truck model builder). My friends and I always liked building those big, fancy owner-operator trucks but, I also liked to build models of the beat-up, dirty haulers that I saw around the stores and shops that did the work-horse hauling around town. Being an upstate New Yorker, I remember well, the CF's of the 70's running up and down the NYS Thruway as well as passing the Interstate, Overnite and other's yards locally, with the tractors all neatly lined up the yard ready to go the next day on their runs.

I wish you would place the trucking company history images in chronological order, oldest to newest, and give a time or date for the image, even if only a published image (like from a trade publication--I recognised several BRANCH Ford C models in old Cat Diesel Engine advertisements), instead of bouncing around like you did in the BRANCH history presentation. I assume you are taking images from other electronic image sources, hence the bad cropping or partial images. I would like to know the history of the earlier (1940-1980) regional Common Carrier companies, because we saw them on the road, but not all the companies were nationwide in authority. For instance, I was watching trucks in the LA Basin, so I didn't see trucks much from east of the Rockies in the 1950's and 60's. You don't need music if you have narration, but don't use computer generated narration. We do NOT have to SEE the narrator--this is not newsroom TV! They (TV) are very unimaginative and just entertain on personality--truck history should be about the trucks. Don't give us non-USA trucks either!

Thank you very much for the comments and the ideas. I do appreciate the critique of my videos. I am learning as I go along and want to make my presentations the best they can be, although with the “free” video editing app I’m using it only allows me do so much. I will do better as time and money allows and hopefully my videos will show progress. I did try to be chronological in the Branch history, I apologize for not doing so. In future videos I’ll eliminate the music and again your comments help in my planning to do better. I promise that I have never thought to use computer generated narration and it won’t be done on my videos. You will see the history of companies from the time period desired, as well as earlier. I enjoy the story of how the industry started and the only reason for my videos and my website is to preserve that history and share with those who may not be aware of it. Thanks again for your time to mention improvements. Feel free to continue as more videos are posted on the channel.
