The answer to your questions is: no. Reason behind this answer is: per definition a construction is a generic form. Therefore it cannot, per this definition, represent the specific. This answer means we need to think deeper about what these methods really are supposed to teach us. Construction is not about teaching how to draw anything but to make it easier to understand and memorize a basic form. A basic form act as a pre-made generic sculpture from which we can carve out the finer details to make it resemble the reference. A form is a surface to attach our observations to, we may decide to be explicit with basic form and draw construction lines on a paper and then attach the details, or we can just feel or see the form without being explicit about it. I.e we draw what we see directly. At some point our knowledge of the form will be so detailed and rich that we wont need construction lines because our "basic" form has become the form. That level of memorization is what make us able to draw what we see directly or, for that sake, from imagination. A form is not a technique, but a memory. When a persons memory of a form is coordinated with their motor skills we consider them being able to draw that form correctly. And if you add external stimulus when drawing the head form we call it a portrait drawn from reference, where the reference works as an external "memory", or inspiration, to adjust the internal memory of the form, i.e. to create likeness. Anyway, why do you stop the drawing after having establishing the shapes and forms? I mean, you stop the recording when the the second stage of drawing start, which many of us think is the most fun fun part of drawing; adding all the details; texture, values etc, then pushing the values to make the drawing pop etc.

You may have mixed up the video title. A more proper one would be "Watch me draw a portrait with the Andrew Loomis method". I am saying this because your title suggest you will share some knowledge of yours, and in a way you did. However, if we are to believe your video title, it is unclear what we might be doing wrong. Are we supposed to figure it out by merely watching you drawing? I mean: what expectation do you have on the viewer? I had mine on your video, but I pretty soon (about one or two minutes into this video) realized they wont be fulfilled. Secondly, I know you draw from reference since I saw you take measurements to get the proportion correct. This is something you could clarified explicitly that you did, and stress the importance of not relay on judgments only but also make physical measurement to verify the judgment we make. Anyhow, if your aim is to educate, in contrast to showing off your own skill level (which is nothing wrong to do but be honest about it), I would suggest to always include the reference otherwise the viewer wont see and understand the choices you made in your mark making. Even in a non-commentary video the reference is a helpful educational tool, because without the reference the drawing is just made in an empty void.

Hi. (Thx for the e-book btw) I'm thinking about the circle on the side of the head, used to "flytten the ball" in the Loomis method. Do you skip that because you think it's not necessary, or do you have a special reason?
