Union of Southern Service Workers
США
Добавлен 30 сен 2020
Union of Southern Service Workers (USSW) is a union built by and for low-wage workers across the service industry. We are building our union by any means necessary, and building it in a way that makes sense for us.
We are digging in for the long haul because we know that there is no solution other than collective action by workers.
We are coming together across the service industry because this fight is so much bigger than any one employer.
We are organizing to win structural changes at our jobs and for our communities.
We are fighting to transform our low wage, high turnover jobs into good union jobs.
USSW members are taking collective action to shift the balance of power in the South.

What is a sit-in?
What is a sit-in? Across the country, the sit-in was the go-to tactic to protest segregation, especially in restaurants. Southern labor history teaches us the power of this tactic…
In February 1960, The Greensboro four men sat at the lunch counter inside the F. W. Woolworth Company store. They asked for service, but the staff denied them because they were Black. Instead of leaving, they stayed in protest. The manager thought he could wait them out, but they persevered, staying for days and drawing over 1,400 protesters to join them.
In a sit-in, activists use their bodies and the power of solidarity to embed themselves within a problem in order to disrupt and call for change.

Marion Mill Massacre
Просмотров 1414 дней назад
On this day in Southern labor history, October 2, 1929, thousands of striking textile mill workers in Marion, North Carolina were attacked by local law enforcement named the Marion massacre. The attack left six striking workers dead and dozens of others seriously injured. On the anniversary of the struggle, we remember the brave workers who lost their lives on the picket line. Not a single work...

Sounds illegal to me
I want to be friends with this man.
Who told you to have a child without a stable income?
This is what happens when you don’t do anything to better yourself and work for these low wages. This is all your fault.
🔥🔥🔥
I can unload 10 million worth of freight at Walmart shouldn't they give me a bonus? You guys get a bonus every pay check for sales smh.
You not a cook you are a servant
Well they don't even get minimum wage they get tipping wage so I don't know why anyone works there?
It not fair
If they're gonna brag about it they should of given you some cash at least.
It's time to work for yourself ma'am 🤷🏾♂️
Vote in politicians that will end right to work laws and allow unions
I mean.. they offered it and you refused anyway.
She doesn’t deserve tips ill tell you that much
So sad Hope she gets raise she asks for
Arent these jobs for teens?? I mean they was when i was younger no grown ass adults was doing these jobs. Should have paid attention in school hunny
Sue the company
Form a Union. Contact your nearest Service Employees International Union (SEIU); they’ll send a poll to your coworkers, if you get over 50% yes votes. You’ll be protected and the company will have to negotiate with you.
You have lung issues already likely from smoking, or other drugs. Waffle House has a reputation for not closing during a disaster, you know this, the whole world knows this. Everyone that works there knows this. If you don't like the idea of working during a natural disaster, then guess what? Find a different job.
How does the boot taste?
You're supposed to lick the book, not put it down to your tonsils.
Simply the most HILARIOUS little Country on Earth! They think it's a FREE Country too ! Krazy Killer Kulture. Such SOPHISTICATED creatures... What time is todays MASS CHILD SLAUGHTER? Police APPROVED MURDER without consequence? No money for Hurricane victims ? How many BILLIONS to the Ukraine ? The u.s.(<4%), just a TRAGIC JOKE to the WORLD(>96%) now...
Power to the workers.
When I was training they told me not to be surprised if someone came in a robbed the place
Ok, let’s look at this logically. If Waffle House workers start getting paid $25 an hour, it would be an economic nightmare. Not only would no one eat there due to the insane price increase of regular menu items (ex a regular meal costing $11 plus tax now hiked up to around $21 or $23 to compensate the workers working at $25 an hour) every corporate food chain like IHOP, Cracker Barrel etc would have to follow suit. Not only the restaurants, but other companies such as Walmart, Sams club, Costco would have to follow. The result is a domino effect of every possible entity having to pay their workforce more, and that’s just not financially feasible. I’ve posted before on a separate video and shared I work in X-ray and make $28 an hour. I worked very hard to be where I am, and if Waffle House workers were to get paid close to where I’m currently getting paid, me and every other X-ray tech, RN, specialty modality etc would be wanting twice or three times more than what we’re making. I’m not one to invalidate anyone who works at these kinds of jobs (I worked a similar job while in college) but I’m simply trying to make you see that $25 is never going to happen. The CEO stated you would be getting a raise to 8.25 or whatever it was. He could say, if you earn a tip for $17 that hour, youve made your $25. Or you could also quit. I hope you read this and internalize what I’m trying to express to you. Good luck
Get better skills
Don’t go to or do anything that involves workers
@@Honeydoyou I'll do whatever I want.
$25/hr lmao for a job requiring zero skill or education. If you hate the job, quit.
You think being a server doesn't require skill? Every job requires skill. I certainly don't have the skill to be a server. People piss me off, especially ones that hound on food workers despite the fact that they would have gone hungry on multiple occasions or would have lost their shit after a long hard day and still have to cook. Try working in the food industry before judging so harshly. $25/hr is steep if they're still getting tips. But no job should ever pay less than a liveable wage.
Cry baby
@@Mosstachio i've worked in the food industry/retail for 10 years. it requires zero skill. you literally could go into your 8 hour shift on 2-3 hours of sleep and not stress over it.
@@d2lover88 you must not have worked at a busy restaurant. Also, dealing with people is a skill. I've worked in the food industry for around 5 years now. It's not physically demanding most days, but it is almost always mentally demanding. If you're in a kitchen, you better believe it's physically demanding too.
@@Mosstachio worked at a mcdonalds in a town with a major football university and 2 other colleges, we also had 2 high schools in the area. we were busy a lot. just because you sweat and work hard does not mean you deserve $25 an hour. i've never been to college and i make good money. it's not hard to learn a skill off youtube then apply at a job that offers training pertaining to that skill you learned. these people just live outside their means of living. the girl in this video is spending $100 to take ubers to work, smh. she is spending $100-$200 (don't remember but it was in the full video) for her phone bill, phone bill is $25 a month with Walmart Tmobile.
$25 an hour? Now you're doing too much.
Without tips, that sounds fair. You can barely get 6 items at the grocery store for under $100. Pay should go up equally if not slightly more than inflation. Currently inflation has increased by many multiples and pay is about 20 years or better behind
@@MosstachioI can get quite a bit for $100. You just gotta shop at the first places.
@@ConkersBadKneeDay Not anywhere close to where I live. I mean you can get rice and vegetables, stuff like that for somewhat cheap. But anything like tp, soap, cleaning supplies, etc. is ridiculous.
Whatever you say, wage slave
@@Mosstachio They need to worry about fixing inflation, not giving people more money to make it worse
1st
then leave? you worked at other jobs so just find a new one smh
she's living outside her means of living, $1600 rent? Rent is $800-1200 in my area. Imagine blaming your employer for your poor choices you made in life
Our sister union in cali wanted a living wage, they got it & now they can care for their basic needs. Which is what waffle house workers want bc they're tired of living off tips.
The company doesn’t owe you anything other than a paycheck for the work you do.
That's a load of 🐂💩 they deserve dignity they deserve safety & to not be stolen from. You sound like a weirdo.
california did this, and nobodys happy, now they want 30, 40, 50 an hour
It's a great idea in theory but then you have to look at what 25 an hour is going to cost everyone around you and let me just say it's going to cost them to have to close their doors and then you'll all lose your jobs so which is worse I'm not trying to be mean or anything that's just how it would end up being.
They should be given a living wage from the beginning. If giving them enough to take care of their basic needs is to much the corporation shouldn't exist.
@@DiamondFae-xd1gm she's living, i think she just lives outside her means
@@d2lover88 which is the typical excuse people reach for when they see things like this. You don't know her personally, so you can only make assumptions about what she does & doesn't do.
The service is super slow and the order is Mostly done wrong...
I thought the title said white house at first 😂
I worked at Waffle House for 17 years and never made less than 40k the first 4 years and after that nothing less then 50k with out a college education while I whet to get a college education. They were there for me to support my self until I could move up in life. But yeah the storm shit is ridiculous and I’ve felt terrified many times that I might die
dude just made poor choices in life and wants to blame his employer for being broke. 75% of workers at waffle house are on drugs smh. they don't want to better themselves.
wooooo!!!!
The problem is that you settle for Waffle House
I dont see a gun being held your head forcing you to work there...
The gun is metaphorical, ass hat. It's called capitalism. Like you they have bills to pay.
Jobs don't grow on trees, my guy. Funny how the people who say this are also the same one who complain that "nobody wants to work anymore!" 🙄
Going to stop tipping fuck this! When people stop working on tips it will fix it self
The state of Alabama runs off the backs of the inmates and their families. The money this state runs on comes from people who struggle with addiction, mental illness, poverty and their families. They've developed a system that keeps people in a trap. This must be stopped. Our prisons are over run because they lose too much money if they parole them. If an inmate is safe enough to send out to feed the public every day, they are safe enough to go home so they can feed their own families.
solidarity!

Im a texan you guys gotta stop mark robinson and trump turn it blue.
100% we got your back!!
Love to see it.
2.00 is wild af
The business practice's of waffle house & places like it I feel shouldn't exist bc they're leaning on the backs of the service workers too hard.
I bet the workplace bullying was through the roof.
Something has to change, yes.... you can always quit and go to a vocational school to learn a trade and earn more. Want to more cuz you want to feel comfortable is a communist mindset.
