How to Edit Live Drums
Before you can mix acoustically recorded (aka "live") drums you need to edit them. In this video I show you some of the techniques that I use to edit a live drum take and prepare it for the mixing process.

Yes I am but need a tutorial on how to hook it up to my keyboard standalone.
Thanks for this. Helps me to understand in depth.
Hello This was very helpful. Can you do a video on how to setup . Multiple mics for the p16 talk Back for musicians
Hi! Unfortunately I do not currently have access to a p16 system, but as soon as I do I certainly will. In the meantime I would suggest exploring the p16 section of the routing options in the X32. It's pretty similar to the other routing options.
you should also do a recording , to prove that is working with no issues .. and all are truly on diff tracks .
If you use the chapter links in the description you can jump to the finished product at 7:22 to see the sounds coming out of their separate channels. The midi will be recorded on the channel where the instrument plugin is and all of the audio will come out of the separate tracks you’ve created for each instrument.
Nice clip..I am on the fence about a stereo unit the Neve 1073 Dbx or two RND Newton channels I may end up getting both options or get the neveDPX and two RND 500 series 542 tape emulator yep I think the last option is the best,,cause I for sure need the Neve dpx unit but getting 2 Newton channels would just cost too much and the reason I wanted those was for the silk red and blue circuits..but your choice of the WA73 is a great upgrade…those vocal stacks sounded nice bro..
hey , followed the steps .. but when i made the track from the Aux - its still recording all the midi notes ..? Did i miss something?
Yes, all of the midi will be on the one track but each sound will be coming out of it’s own separate track for mixing. You can then choose to bounce each track individually if you need to export them separately for mixing in a different DAW.
How set up usb to listen music
How to setup xlr and aux
Need help with x32 rack please
What specific help do you need?
Like effects male to female
Thanks
Cool 👍
Thanks for such a helpful video. I love your ideas. Would like to have seen more examples of everything you described; perhaps still shots of each wall/angle of the space, plus where you place the singers/musicians who record there.
@@Ky6Stringer Glad this helped. The singers stand in the space right behind my chair. If you watch the Vlog #2 video where I recorded lead vocals for my EP you’ll see an example of the placement.
Can you do a vid on live drums mixing
I absolutely will!
Remix😂😂😂
Amen! Thanks for this info. I've been searching for weeks trying to figure this out
Thanks bro you really bless me with this educational vid.🎉🎉😊😅
For context I am using the Adam A7X studio monitors and they hold them very well. They are way more solid than they look in the picture on the website. I was skeptical too at first lol
yeah curious if those stands will support 8" speakers. I am currently using smaller 4" speakers to mount my 8" speakers on, some clamp mounts would be sort of cool piece of upholstered furniture used as a footstool or low seat. There are ottoman table stools though that have a little centre table area in the centre of it The mop holder concept for stuff is great... I am weighing getting a 2pack of stainsteel holders rather than plastic.. great tip.
Super helpful video!! This is just what I was looking for to help with my church's livestream audio. God bless you for making this video!
Wow, 6 bloody minutes before we got to the review!!

good vibes and very helpful, thank you!
I was on the fence with this one. I get so tired of logic perc and need some variety. This plugin looks and sounds great. Love the content, I subscribed and thanks for the review. I’ll be purchasing this soon.
@@csmartin308 Thanks for the sub! You’re gonna love the plug-in.
Question my brother: At my church we got an X32 that is going to be used for streaming only separately from FOH in a separate room. My question is, what would be the best way to set up the studio monitors to hear the mix in the room? Should I use a matrix to my studio monitors and a matrix to the outs that I will send to the Atem mini in the streaming computer?
Hey! I don't believe a matrix to the studio monitors is necessary. I would connect the monitors to the monitor outputs so you can control their volume separate from the main. Then send a matrix of the Main LR to the Atem mini.
@@EdMcCraeMusic thank you! But what would be the benefit of a matrix to the streaming computer considering that this X32 will be for streaming only in a separate room?
@@DavidChicas-oo4qd The matrix is so that the same mix you are building on the faders is what's going out to the streaming computer. Unless you are connecting to the streaming computer via usb. In that case you wouldn't need a matrix at all.
My name is Eddie… I found this for a reason! Nice video Ed jr. 😏🙏🔥
@@bigeddie1669 Hey a fellow Ed! Welcome to the channel brother and thank you.
Teach em brotha!
What would you suggest a person include if they send you an accapella song?
I would need all of the separated vocal tracks, and the rough mix if available.
Sucks that the Animator doesn't seem to have 3/4 or 6/8 time signatures.
Are there any particular DAWS that you can’t mix if the files were to be sent to you? I use BeatMaker 3
@@trevorchan9014 I’m not familiar with beatmaker but any DAW should be able to import wav files. So as long as you are comfortable with the DAW you should be able to mix in it.
I love warm audio stuff. I have the WA 73EQ mic pre the WA 2A the WA76 the WA87 the WA 47 and the WA 251 next is the WA 1b
Exactly, Ed. I have PT templates for several different styles and they save me a lot of time. I don't like to waste MY time :)
Great content and insight!
This is awesome work
Great advice, Ed! 🙌
Excellent video Ed. I think many of us have been doing this so long, its common sense to do as you described. But there's always newbies/up & comers who could really use this info.
My x32 and daw only work for connecting and recording but playback crackles and breaks so I can't use it for live stream or virtual soundcheck as the playback is awful
I don't know if it's the usb, all my usb ports are 3.1 and the x32 usb is 2.0. Could that be why the playback is terrible because I was hoping to send the master out of my daw back to x32 but the sound coming back is terrible.
@@eneshahdeedee8167 Are you getting the crackling when you monitor directly in the daw, or only when you send it back to the X32?
@@EdMcCraeMusic I have the same issue and that’s when I send playback to the x32. I think my usb card bad (UF 32)
I have two of the WA73-EQ Preamps in my hardware rack and not only do I use them as mic pres, but use them as a stereo pair on my mix buss. Now that adds some nice deliciousness to the mix. LOL 😁
Love it, bro!
Hey how are ya?? I'm a Sound Engineer here in Miami. I do sound and recording. I keep a lot of stuff on standby because sometimes musicians aren't too bright on connecting things. Let's just say I know one time somebody tried plugging a piano up stereo into a mono Direct box I'm like nooooooooo🤣🤣🤣🤣. Sometimes bass amps xlr may have a bad output so I will ask the bassist to plug into the direct box then I use the thru into their amp and send the output to my console/interface. I try plugging keys up as stereo I hate mono keys lol and overall I think ahead of the band just in case!!!! Thanks for this vid. I work with x32s all the time I may get one or get this Yamaha dm3 they have now!!!!
@@iengineer_247 That’s a great tip on the bass player!
awesome production, thanks for the review.
Extremely good for afrobeat as well.
Love a lot of the sounds in this VST but thought it was too pricey, $199 introductory. But when you drug that midi into the DAW it immediately caused me to reconsider even at the now regular price of $249. Of course I wouldn't pay that just for the midi loops - I could just stop being lazy and learn and play the chords myself. But with the sounds... I'm seriously considering!
Nice video!! Thanks for really breaking down the explanations
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh
Fair points on your concerns…we are working on some of the features that you mentioned
@@Johnmike Awesome! Keep up the good work man.

I’ve always wanted this plugin! Thank you very much for the video
Nice! Glad this helped.
I’m trying to find out how to import a segment from this plugin into logic
@@OfficialDSFN You are going to use your midi controller. Make sure the trigger setting is in keys mode, not host mode. Then just hit record and then hold down the key that is assigned to the loop that you set up.
