GTAW AC Balance Part One: Aluminum Oxide
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.8 лет назад
A little bit of information about aluminum oxide, which is the reason that we most frequently use Alternating Current when TIG welding aluminum. Trivia: This was filmed on a sound stage in Burbank. It is only through the miracle of special effects in post production that we were able to create the illusion of my cluttered and just adequately lit garage. Much of the stammering and nervousness wa...

Beautiful! Awesome video...thank you.
What is the problem why there is a blinking of green/red in the maxstar 280 miller welding machine
Great video thanks for making it
Thanks for this video! it's exactly what I was looking for.
These videos are the best out there for this machine
CovidImages need to be invested more than half19
Excellent presentation well done well informed Been welding for 40 years and still learning
I actually converted our 252 from mig to flux. They definitely omitted alot of details.
Also are you running gas or self shielding flux core wire. This is a very sloppy video and needs more details. .......
Not very clear about details in this video.
You did not switch polarity on your leads. Please adjust that in your video. !!! 😳
Section 5-8 of the manual, (page 18) states: "Shown as shipped − Electrode Positive (DCEP): For solid steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or flux core with gas wires (GMAW)." "Electrode Negative (DCEN): Reverse lead connections at terminals from that shown above for gasless flux core wires(FCAW). Drive assembly becomes negative." So since he is still running a shielding gas, does the manual not state to stay in reversed polarity?
If it’s gas shielded flux core aka dual shield electrode positive if it’s self shielded flux core electrode negative now there’s some that’s both u have to check the wire manufacturers specs
Does it just plug into 120 v ac or what
Hands down the best looking dynasty operator ever.
Got to be the very best explanation I have ever heard . Well done and thank you
He forgot to change the polarity to Electrode Negative for Flux Core. DCEN.
Correct
I am having trouble finding the Spot timer function on this machine. i have looked through out the manual over and over i can't seem to find it. i keep thinking i am overlooking something simple but can't seem to crack it. can you please help me out. thanks.
Okay, who the hell is this cat? Why haven't I found him earlier, this is great if you have a 280DX. Subscribed!
This is an awesome video, I had no idea about this!! Pays to read owners manual... oops. Thanks for spending time to provide this!
Sir...can I ask question?the Miller maxstar 280 is it autovolt?
My 300dx failed so we replaced it with the closest thing being a 280dx and immediately noticed it's missing the handy memory 1-4 on dc/Ac. That makes this clunky to use :(. And 500.00+ for a SD card just to get memory? Unless I'm missing something?
Thank you, very informative!
I don’t understand why you would need a new liner. Is that standard every time you change wire size❓what a pain. You also have to change out the wheel to match the wire size. Why not make one that works for all sizes. A wheel with multiple size slots just by moving it over or flipping it.
23 views in almost 2 years... any plans for more videos?
Look forward to seeing your video, I have a new dynasty 400 tig machine and there is not much out there yet. Interested in the feature to lock the machine out to protect it.
Thank you, enjoyed your video. Look forward to more on the lock out feature.
I’m confused which is better the miller 280 dx 907514 or the 907551 model? Why would the model that can weld AC/DC be cheaper than the one that only welds DC? (280 dx cps)Help
Do you need to reverse the polarity?
The manual states yes. He forgot to do this
Good explanation only one thing. The Time is all the time the welders power is actually running and not arc timing however it does have an arc counter which is helpful as well. I verified this with my new 210 ran it for a while and it had time on it with no arcs
Are you gone forever?
wave, what is the relationship between amperage and balance? ex. 300 amp. more positive or less positive?
What happened? Come back! I was just getting to know and love you and now you are disappeared...
Great videos explaining the Miller Dynasty 210/280DX. In regards to the independent a/c expansion from Miller, there are no videos on RUclips specifically reviewing/explaining this feature on the 210/280DX models. I see you mentioned possibly making one on independent amplitude and I would really enjoy seeing it. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks you have helped me a lot, with my 210 dx, Its the first welder I bought and it can be complicated to use. but it makes aluminum welds that no other welder I've used can produce and, that is why I got it. I came from a dynasty 350 at my old job and once i got used to it, it was hard to go back to a Syncrowave.
Fantastic video and great channel. Subbed.
Actually not.
great info thanks!! very helpful.. I'm a former miller employee and get the miller (culture)and attention to detail and most of all quality.. kinda ironic i used to make 3 phase machines and now i weld with one i may have made😎deltaweld 452! thanks for the info on the dynasty, and may i add the dynasty is a great machine!!!
Please continue to make videos. While Jody does an excellent job, I think you've done the best to explain the mechanics and theory of operation..
Hey Weld Nerd You said below "Independent Amplitude is a tool that can be helpful" Could you send me an email I would like to talk more about this at length if you don't mind. mkuran2000@yahoo.com thanks
Just wanted say that your videos are very educational. I started working for a welding supply store a few months ago and I love being able to help my customers understand welding processes as much as I can. Your videos have definitely added to my welding knowledge arsenal.
Thanks again for the information! You helped me a ton.
Thanks for the great information!
I weld all my dirty aluminum castings with individual amplitude adjustments set to 2/1 in favour of electrode Positive, but set my AC balance to 90%. I even have good results on clean aluminum. Tungsten keeps a sharp point.
Interesting! Bringing Independent Amplitude Adjustment into the mix certainly adds another dimension of control and capability. I've never used it in that way for cast before, but I'll certainly play around with it at the next opportunity. Thanks for watching / commenting!
DAMN, thanks for the heads up on the gun ratings only being valid with 100% CO2. I never knew that. Why don't the manufacturers tell you that theres a HUGE reduction in power handling when you use C25 ? I suspect the vast majority of guys that don't weld for a living are using C25. Great video and i hope you continue. Subscribed.
Read owners manual. They address this issue
Are you still making videos? Looking forward to the detail videos on the DX menus.
Yes, they'll be coming soon. Life had other plans this summer, but things are starting to line up again. Thanks for your interest and patience!
Sweet. I would like to request a video on the "blue lightning" HF arc start too.
That's a great idea!
Great tips! What benefits would you gain from running the dual shield flux core over just the solid wire? I am running mixed co2 with .035 on my 252 currently as it doesn most what I need. Is it better for welding over mill scale and paint? Thanks!
Cole, thanks for watching! There are a lot of advantages to FCAW-G, one if which is definitely a higher tolerance than solid wire for less than perfectly clean surfaces. (That being said, it's always important to properly prepare base material before welding not just for weld quality, but also to minimize the hazards of fumes and gases.) Some other big advantages are an increase in deposition rates, smooth / uniform bead appearance, low spatter, and many filler material options. Selecting FCAW-G over GMAW is usually dependent on the application, where one or more of the advantages are of particularly high value. Have a great day!
Thanks for taking the time to respond!
You bet! 8)
Best videos on the subject, period! Question please, how reliable are the Miller Dynasty 280 DX in your opinion? Its kind of like a huge investment for me
I completely understand how big of an investment this can be! I'm an engineer, not a salesman, and, generally, a pretty crummy capitalist. Because of this, I don't take recommendations lightly. So here it is: The Dynasty 280 DX is a very good machine and I am very comfortable recommending it. The best thing you can do to protect your investment and guarantee years of reliable performance is to follow the periodic maintenance schedule, which is mostly blowing out dust, changing coolant (if it's a water-cooled package), and checking for software updates. Thanks for the kind words and best of luck!
Thanks to your encouragement , I went ahead and purchased the Dynasty 280 DX, and I love it. I am overseas, and at the time of purchase, I wasn't able to find the one with CPS, which I was interested in. Now I would like to add a water cooler, is there is anyway on earth that I could retrofit the machine with the cooler power supply? I know that there are other coolmate options but I really like it to be automatic as opposed to me turning it on/off manually, the fact that coolmate 1.3 is the same size as the machine (240 VAC where I am at, so can't run it separately) in addition to the other reasons you mentioned in the video above. Thanks again.
I graduate from MSOE in a few months. How do I get a job at Miller?
congratulations on your accomplishment! MSOE is a great school. Miller likely has a relationship with your career office and can be found at job fairs on campus. Also, this: www.millerwelds.com/about/careers Best of luck!
very very informative videos you've post here. You know.. there is a doubt that is killing me about the dynasty 280 DX and 210 DX which is the following: do they come with an independent amperage/amplitude control EP and EN or you have to upgrade the software ??
Good question! The 210 & 280 DX do not have AC Independent Amplitude functionality straight out of the box. You're correct that it is available as an upgrade. Now, the Dynasty 350 DX comes ready to go with Independent Amplitude, but it also comes with a higher price tag than the smaller machines with the added upgrades. What's your primary application?
+Weld NerdI dont weld for living and i have just a little experience on stick welding when i took a welding class ,i am plumber, but tig welding has always fascinated me, and on my free time i get self saturated reading about these tig machines, and now i want to buy one since i wanna weld aluminum. The reason why i asked you about ep and en is because i found a espec sheet online from miller website but it seems to be from europe for the small letter on top of it"uk" and i think that miller is already building the 210/280dx with the ep en upgrade from factory but not here in USA. equiptoweld.millerwelds.com/pdf/spec_sheets/ADM9-0UK.pdf
That's a great observation. The European market has a few interesting differences from the US in terms of the things that they value in a power source. One of them is AC Independent Amplitude. There is a much higher percentage of operators who take advantage of that adjustment over there, so it comes standard. As for your welding, practice practice practice. It's great you're taking the initiative to seek out the information and educating yourself. If you are looking to pick up a machine and you've decided on a 210 or 280 DX, but are concerned about the Independent Amplitude, then my advice would be this: Don't worry about it right now. Independent Amplitude is a tool that can be helpful, but it's very uncommon to see a job that requires it. You can always get the upgrade later after you've logged some time and have a really good feel for the process and it's capabilities and limitations.
Thank you very much! I'll do my best to keep it up, sir. Have a great day!
Hey man I have a few questions I think u could help on the 210 dx my email is hill006@yahoo.com .how can I contact you?
Mr Hill, I just sent you an email. Reply when you can and I'll get back to you as quick as I can manage. If they're short questions, you can always feel free ask them right here in the comments.
Can the post flow on the 210 dx be adjusted or is it just auto thanks really video
Mr Hill, the post flow can be adjusted from 0 - 50 seconds or set to Auto. Preflow can also be adjusted from 0 - 25 seconds. Factory settings are 0.2 seconds preflow and Auto post flow.
Thanks! Great stuff!
