    Love the vids. That masking technique and extract function is nice. What exactly are those steps? I feel like when i use the “relax” tool I’m not getting as smooth of a mask??

    • @olddognewtrick-xl4ny
      @olddognewtrick-xl4ny Месяц назад

      my apologies for not getting to this sooner, just got back from vacation. The steps I use are to mask whatever it is your masking, then once its masked go into the facegroups menu and click on "patch". select a clor that isn't very prevalent in your model, and then click on the mask you created. it should change to the color you had selected for your facegrouping. from here, clear your original mask and then go back into the facegroup menu and select "relax". no simply paint over your newly created facegroup and you should see the jagged edges smooth over. now, if you want to extract from here, within the facegroup menu, select the mask function and make sure "facegroup on tap" is selected in the mask menu. click on your facegroup, and then go into the mask settings in the top menu. from here you can extract your selection using the the thickness and the extract button. hope this helps!

    Great video. What's the difference between using the stamp tool vs the brush and using the same alpha picture?

    • @olddognewtrick-xl4ny
      @olddognewtrick-xl4ny 2 месяца назад

      thanks! Let me try and explain my understanding of it. So the stamp tool and the brush tool are very similar, the main difference being that the stamp tool has its stroke type set to grab as a dynamic radius. What that means is when you click on any geometry with the stamp tool, it will pull out that alpha shape from the center of the pattern, and the rotation and scale of said shape will be determined by how far you move your stroke from the geometry (the dynamic portion of it). If you use the brush tool, it doesnt have the same dynamic ability to rotate and scale the pattern. Hope this helps!

    @nomadicsculpt 3 месяца назад

    This was great and I’m so glad you did it from scratch, looks good 👍🏻 I’m happy you found On Gizmo useful. Reason why you had problems splitting holes for the eyes is because you only masked the front part of the mesh. You can change this in Pen dropdown in Filter tab by unchecking Front-facing vertex only.

    I like the idea but you skipped(for me) the most interesting parts, I mean the face and blocking out the body. The clothing was interesting though. I don’t know if you know this but you’ll save yourself much of the lining up by making the new object with On Gizmo and the object you want to line up with selected.

    • @olddognewtrick-xl4ny
      @olddognewtrick-xl4ny 3 месяца назад

      I agree, I came up with the idea after I pretty much finished the face. A lot of times I"ll just start sculpting to see if the idea works and I end up wishing I had recorded it lol. For these sculpts I'm using the modmesh blockouts just to help speed up the process and prevent me from burning out creating all the geometry. Thank you so much for the "on gizmo" tip, I had absolutely no idea that even existed! I'm going to be definitely using that going forward. Thanks for the response!!!
