    I had this done on August 4. I am doing fine with pain, but just tired of laying around. I get my cast off on September 17, then i start pt, and can slowly start to put weight on it. The last few days things seem to be getting a bit easier, as far as moving around in the cast. I feel like my pain has been minimal so far.

Im 25, what if i don't do that im woried about the pain going worse day by day for the rest of my life. And what if i choose surgery im worried for another implication or side affect 😭😭 can you help to give some advice?? Thankyou

    • @PricoTu
      @PricoTu 11 дней назад

      Hi, I’m doing well, healthy and without pain. I’m much older than you are, and I had suffered from arthritis pain for many years. I only regret not doing the surgery earlier. My ankle mobility was already limited and after fusion it’s a little bit more limited, but everything else is fine. My advice for you is to prepare yourself, physically and mentally. Staying healthy and fit will help you for the surgery and recovery. The recovery time is long and specially hard on the first weeks. Later you will have to commit yourself to physical therapy and exercises for proper recovery, it requires some effort and dedication. Please also check my other videos, particularly the “One Year After”. Wishing you all the best in your journey.

    Hi PricoTu Elson Mendes Filho, how are u ? i have a question, its possible training calf muscle after anklefusion, exercises like calf raises with some adaptation or using the tiptoe movement ?

    • @PricoTu
      @PricoTu 11 дней назад

      Hello Davi, beleza!? Yes it is possible. Indeed I have heard many people complaining that it is much harder or almost impossible to grow the calves muscle after fusion. Surely it is harder, but with some adaptations I was able to recover this muscle and gain a few centimeters, it is still smaller than the good one, but it is ok. Typically, I do unilateral calf rises so I can focus on the activation of the individual fused leg and I bend the knee slightly when rising to increase the activation. I am also using a Standing Calf Raise Machine at the gym to add additional weight as I progress the load. I hope this would be helpful for you. And I wish you all the best in your journey!

    • @PricoTu
      @PricoTu 24 дня назад

      Thank you Chris! Your kind words made me quite emotional. I don’t walkg as much on a daily basis, on average 6000 steps per day. I try to do 2 or 3 short walks every week, and also cycling and gym. Recently, the highest step count in a day was 14000. I didn’t have a chance to push my limits on a very long walk, as I normally walk with the family, we go slowly and my daughter always want to get back after a while 😅. I am sure you will be able to walk the distances you want, just start slowly and increase it gradually, and follow what your body tells you. I wish you all the best in your journey!

    hello, I want to ask you if you have problems with the total ankle fusion when you walk on uneven, bumpy ground, I have not yet the ankle fusion, I had a sprain with Fracture talus and calcaneus, I am recovering, I was operated on and my foot was debrided sinus tarsi and fixed with a talus and calcaneus screw in the tarsi sinus area and that screw limits my movement on rough terrain, seeing that you can move the ankle well from the navicular, I can at the moment just need a little more training to be able to move the ankle like you, how did you manage to be able to move the ankle through the other joints?

    First of all I want to thank you for every word you put on this video. Will do my tibio-tarsic artrodesis in 10 days. My background is just terrible, a simple ankle fracture evolved in osteomielitis and as result surgeries cutted away 12 cm of my tibia putting same quantity of cement to maintain the right distance. Everything should be fixed with a piece of bone from bones bank and a very big nail to screw everything. I just hope to have same determination and same results you got in this year. I badly know every effort and pain to reach those results.

    Thank you for sharing. I’m 63 and fell last August and fractured my foot and ankle. Finally got to a knowledgeable doc and we are planning this surgery in the Fall. I’m a bit nervous and I’m a very active person. This made me feel a bit more confident!

      Thanks. That’s a good timing, enjoy your summer staying fit and healthy, and get prepared. I believe enduring the first stage of the recovery is easier in Fall/Winter and when Spring comes you’ll be in a good shape to restart your outdoor activities. I wish you all the best in your journey!

      Hi Don. Thank you! This initial stage is the hardest, not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. I also experienced ups and downs. It is great that you have good support from your wife, remember to be patient with her. For now focus on your recovery, be patient and stay comfortable. Be aware that changes will happen, good ones and not so good ones, and you will be able to face them when the moment comes and you will be able to adapt yourself to the new situation. I wish you all the best in your journey!

    Hi brother, it’s been 10 1/2 weeks since I had my TT ankle fusion I seen the orthopedic surgeon a month ago they did x-rays and they said slowly start putting weight on my fused ankle obviously with the air cast, but I’ve noticed I have heel pain and on my inside of my right ankle I have pain when I put pressure. Do you think that’s normal and did you go through that? I’m just worried that I might have to have another surgery. I hope not thank you so much for the videos and responding you truly are a greathuman being I must’ve watched your videos 100 hours. It gave me a lot of hope. Thank you so much brother and God bless you and God bless your family.

      Hi Mark, good to hear from you! Did your doctor confirmed that your ankle has fused? It seems so, as you are slowly increasing weight bearing. This pain is normal. I also had it. Take it easy and go slowly in this stage, also alternate easy walks and leg elevation for at least 20 minutes, several times per day. Compression socks can also help in this process. Are you having physiotherapy sessions? These professionals can make massages to relieve the pain and prescribe you drills and exercises to overcome this. Anyway, I believe this is part of the process to get used to have weight on the foot again. If you notice something more severe, contact your doctor. I wish you all the best in your recovery journey!

      @@PricoTu yeah he said it’s fused. I start physiotherapy sometime this week. I’m still in a lot of pain but I think that’s normal. He wants me to put more more weight on my foot every day to get comfortable with walking again thanks a lot, brother.

I’m not able to walk without my crutches, omg It’s still very sore lol to be expected I guess, but I’m doing all my exercises. I have a physiotherapist, kinesiologist, an occupational therapist, I’m just looking forward to walking pain-free walking without crutches thanks brother for all your advice. You have a beautiful heart and a beautiful, beautiful spirit. God bless you.

      @@MarkGlover-re5we Amazing progress! Thanks for the update. Start slowly, focusing on walking correctly, your foot will eventually get used to pressure on the floor and soreness will get lower and lower, try to progressively putting less force on the crutches, but go slowly. Elevate the leg from time to time to relief and rest. You are getting there my friend!

    Do you happen to know the specific fusion you had done? I am looking at possible having a triple athrodesis this year and I am apprehensive about the loss of mobility and how it would affect my knee/hip on that side.

    • @PricoTu
      @PricoTu 3 месяца назад

      Hi, as mentioned in the video I had a Tibiotalar. The triple fusion involves one more bone, so an additional complexity. I think of fusion to solve pain from the joint, it can decrease mobility slightly, but if you dedicate yourself, with physiotherapy and exercise you can recover some of it and live very well, respecting your body’s limits, most importantly without pain.

    Its been two weeks since my ankle fusion surgery and I have been inspired by your story, Im also an avid cyclist, MTB and Road, so your story resonated so much with me. I do worry about the length of time, but as you say it can vary, in 4 weeks I have the cast off, X-Ray to check union and into a moonboot, hopefully that will be the turning point, Thanks again and Hello from New Zeaaland 👍👍

    Is the ankle swelling, stiff after 14 weeks?

    • @PricoTu
      @PricoTu 4 месяца назад

      Yes. It’s normal. It may require some more time for the swelling to wear off completely. Stiffness gets better with more walking and exercise, physiotherapy helps a lot.

    Thanks for motivating us. Im in 40s. 20 months back i had facture on ankle joint. Now plates are being removed. I've been detected with stage 3 osteoarthritis. Joint cartilage thickness has reduced by 60 70%. Doctor has recommended me rocker shoes and told to reduce walking to save remaining part. They told if things get worse in future, that time i have options of fusion and replacement. Please advise me what to do.

    • @PricoTu
      @PricoTu 4 месяца назад

      Hi Chandan, thank you. Yes rocker bottom shoes can help making walking easier. You should also try having some physiotherapy sessions, it might help preventing additional deterioration of cartilage. If things get worse, fusion or replacement are good options.

    Thank you! Thank you for telling your story. Like you I suffered an accident on a mountain where I dislocated my right ankle. That was 5 years ago. Multiple surgeries later and I had my fusion just under a year ago and unlike you my recovery hasn’t been as good as I am in chronic pain daily. I cannot walk without the boot and I struggle to do anything including sitting at a desk. It is so good watching a success story and what you are able to do now post-op as that is always scary. Many a dark thought has gone through my head and even today I have sad moments and happy moments. I know everyone is different and I know I have the best surgeon looking after me and I can only hope to get even 20% of what you are able to do back. But your story is inspiring and will help drive me on once the next surgery is complete. Thank you again and happy healing.
