Remembering D-Day in Normandy
Remembering the historical point in time that turned the tide of World War II. The sacrifice and courage that these service men and women gave should and will never be forgotten.

Versailles and Arc de Triomphe

On our last day in Paris, we spent the first part of the day touring the famous palace at Versailles. Opulence abounds, and we found out it truly pays to be the early bird to get in line. The afternoon was a visit to the Arc de Triomphe in the heart of Paris. Honoring D-Day at Normandy
Просмотров 425 лет назад
The beaches at Normandy are a sacred place. Our visit to see this historic place is both humbling and emotional. Thousands fought and died on the 50-mile stretch for freedom. It is difficult to comprehend, but very easy to honor the service and sacrifice of these brave men. Everyone should see this place. You will be changed.

Saturday June 16, 2018 - We enjoy our final day in London beginning with a fine tour of Parliament. (You should go...Really) We were fortunate to have David as our tour guide, who was phenomenal. Although we had to cancel 2 of our other stops due to excessive lines, we still had wonderful time. By the end of the day, we were whisked by high-speed train to Paris, France! We begin another chapter...
A Friday Afternoon Enjoying London
Просмотров 846 лет назад
June 15, 2016 - We did our best effort to see as much of London as possible. We lunched at Borough Market, climbed St. Paul's Cathedral, strolled on the Millennium Bridge, and relaxed on a cruise along the Thames. Topping off the day was an exquisite dinner (I want more of that tea!) A splendid time indeed!

Come along with our guide, Mark, who will share some incredible - and sometimes gruesome - stories of the history of the Tower of London. If you have the chance to visit the Tower of London, the Yeoman Warder tours are definitely worth your time. Thank you Mark for a job well done!

Good on you beefeater 😂 brillent tour and show we showed not take the passed to serious but the future is for all off use.
wonderful
The Scots are gonna pay for it had me falling out of my chair lol
The towers wizards do a great job.
I wonder if Europeans, or other folks that live with the relics of their vast past have a better sense of the vast scale of time, and how short human existence in the universe has been. These buildings are dozens of generations old, that must impart some sense of scale.
how are these so good, they're all comedic geniuses.
The most entertaining guide I've ever seen
We just came home from London and did this, but our tour guide was very into history very nice woman just tooo much history didn't see enuf torture weapons like was kinda boring
Sorry your visit was not as fulfilling as ours. While the Tower is rich in history and events, much of the less savory aspects are not highlighted likely due to families (children) touring the grounds. Our tour had several mentions of horrific things; this was not included in this video due to graphic content. If torture and gore interest you, there is plenty to research on the Tower and other historic landmarks you can find on the web. Thank you for your comment!
I went to the tower of London a few weeks ago never walked so much fantastic place though
British
From what I’ve read in a book by American author Bill Bryson. American English is more accurate to that spoken 400 years ago in England. The English spoken in England took on many french words , such as pavement.
Yes it probably is. Apparently the words “fall”(autumn) and scallion (spring onions I think) were originally English. I also saw a fascinating documentary in the ‘80s where they visited an area in America (can’t remember where) and the people there spoke in 16/17th century English accents due to the first settlers.
Jambutty The English spoken in America has just as many French words as English spoken in Britain does, words like Jail, Detour, Navy, Allowance, Gallery, there are around 10,000 French words in the English language. Many of the spellings in America are however much the same as those used in England in the time of William Shakespeare.
@@daneelolivaw602 That's is why french is by far the easiest language to learn for an anglophone. Thousands of french words are being used in english.
Must be a real trip living in the Tower of London. Haven't heard of any Warders seeing ghosts but one recently said he creeps himself out sometimes. Loved the video.
Glad you liked it!
WHAT WERE THE SKI'S LIKE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG ?
very entertaining.
Incredibly entertaining and informative!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!
The hotel is made up of several townhouses which is why the levels and configuration is a bit odd
And that is what is so charming about it! We loved it!
very good - respect from Mick King - Retired Yeoman Warder 2000 -2005 before I moved to California
1:47 British Dry Jokes! Love it!
The macarena gag was underrated
I would love to go to England someday and see this place someday because I love history and I would love to see a real castle.
do'nt worry Stefan, they ar'nt going anywhere..... there is a real foreboding about it when you know the history. the destiny of squillions of people is right there, like it or not.... ( i may exist because of it !!).
That guy is so funny
Fantastic! Great job! I wanna go now more than ever
Glad you enjoyed it! And if you do make it, keep in mind I only did highlights. There is a lot more that you will discover when you go. :)
And it's free !!! (Once you've paid to enter.)
Amazing tour guide, with nice and a power voice!!!! Lot of knowledge with UK humour, it's really giving ideas about the life style in London... I am exciting to visit London with him one day!!
Hope you have a good time when you visit us.
These tours are free, once you've paid for entry to the tower. Assemble to the roght, just inside the entrance. (There is a sign.)
I’ve just spent a wonderful couple of hours scrolling through your UK videos - very enjoyable Thank You. What’s good about these videos is : 1. Excellent cinematography ( a lot of patience to get some of those shots ! ) 2. You obviously researched each place beforehand and spent time editing after. 3. Informative and non-obtrusive commentary - with only a few funny pronunciations 🤣 4. You eat for fuel not to make points about the cuisine. 5. A great rapport with your husband 6. You are very beautiful. Keep up the great work - I hope you’ll be back in the UK to do more of our sites and history. Subscribed 😍
Oh my gosh Martyn! Thank you SO much! How very kind of you - you have absolutely made my day! I'm happy to inform you that there is definitely more of the UK to come, as we ended our adventure in Windsor and Bath, with stops in Stonehenge and the Cotswalds. I hope to put up a new video of Paris in a few days (which has footage of Notre Dame prior to the fire last year). I have charged myself with getting better about putting more videos on our trip. We love to travel, love the UK and plan to definitely come back again. Where are you in the UK?
Shelburn Adventures wow ! Now who’s day has absolutely been made ! I live not far from Northampton ( you passed through on your train journey to Birmingham) Very close to Althorp house which is the birth and resting place of Princess Diana. Beautiful rural English countryside with no crowds ( a must for any visitor - but don’t tell too many 🤫) My brother lives in Stratford upon Avon and his house was on your video there. I also enjoyed your Warwick Castle vid - I’m due to see Michael Buble there in concert once the pandemic is over. Your tour showed a lot of my favourite things about my country and as I said beautifully photographed.
I absolutely love watching videos about the yeoman warder tour. All those beefeaters are so funny and informative. Here's the video I took when I took the tour. It's nice to see the different "versions" ruclips.net/video/sG_zSmGAYoY/видео.html
He is the next Billy Beefeater.
Now I can understand THIS kind of British humor.
We did Mark’s tour in 2013! Excellent guide!
prithee, the White one, they must have a good translator; it's rapid for me and i'm of this realm.
Love this tour guide.
Dude is a guided tour not a tour guide
UK vacation as a kid in 1980 and we visited the Tower on 4th of July. Our beefeater guide was an awesome Falstaffian giant who was equal parts Benny Hill, Ian Gillan and R.S.M.
Wonderful, funny, informative tour. Just amazing, as good as being there!
This is great. We are learning about the Tower of London and about the executions and I have been really curious to see what it's like I love almost 3 hours away from London and I thought... i'm never getting there. So thank you because now my curiosity has gone.
You simply must go. History at its purest.
It's amazing and impressive how they all tell the same story but all differently. Thanks for uploading.
I think a lot of them have taken inspiration from the legendary Yeomans routine.
Hope this man is well paid !!!
Douglas Cook: They don't do it for the money. They are paid for being Yeoman Warders - the guided tours are a side-line to their twenty-one official duties.
Nice 😀
Well that's saved me a visit. Thanks.
Actually, this was just highlights from the tour. There is so much more! We were not permitted to film in the church, which was understandable. We didn't realize there was one on the property. Very interesting.
@@shelburnadventures6684: There are in fact two chapels within the Tower of London: the Chapel Royal of Saint Peter-ad-Vincula and the Chapel Royal of Saint John-the-Evangelist. The present Chapel Royal of Saint Peter-ad-Vincula dates from the early 16th century, although there has been a chapel on the sight before even the White Tower was constructed. The Chapel Royal of Saint John-the-Evangelist is within the White Tower, dates from the late 11th Century and is considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in the British Isles.
@@anghinetti Thank you so much for the information!
noo you have to go definitely one off the bucket list
@@ouse59 Indeed! It's a wonderful place to visit! So much more than this little video shows...
At Saint Paul's Catherdral, there was a time when one could climb, by way of a metal rung-ladder affixed to the wall, to the space between the smaller dome and the ball below the cross. So narrow was it that only one peron at a time could be there. Closed some years ago, probably due of health and safety issues. Managed it three or four times in the 1960s but think I would struggle now even it were still open to the public. It's said that the cathedral (probably the fourth to have stood there) is on the site of a 1st-century Roman temple dedicated to Diana, the goddess of the hunt, the moon and nature. That business district referred to at 0:09 is the City of London. Big Ben is the name given to the largest of the five bells housed at the top of the Elizabeth Tower. It's the one which chimes the hours; and so at 5:24, that was in fact one of the four faces of the Great Westminster Clock.
Thank you for the info! I doubt I would have the energy (or desire) to further our climb at Saint Paul's. The view reserved for those of us who made it to the Golden Gallery was enough reward. We hope to go back when the Elizabeth Tower has been fully restored.
Mark is the funniest of the beefeters, along with billy i suppose
True! He was wonderful. He's his own attraction! :)
Love Mark! We were on his tour in November 2017. His script was actually the same, but why change something that isn't broken! He's hilarious.
Yes!! I didn't include everything, in the event that someone catches his tour, there are still a few surprises! Thank you!
We're from Brighton. Can you imagine the ribbing we got when Mark started talking about the executioner in his black leather? ;-)
@@supergran1000 Haha! I can only imagine! That's awesome!
They actually do have a script that they have to learn. I'm sure each one puts his own spin on it, but the script is the same for all the yeoman warders. There's a video on youtube somewhere showing the process of how they choose and train the new warders.
so do stand up comedians
