I was childhood friends with Joe. We grew up across the street from each other on 138th street and Willis Avenue in the South Bronx. I was there when he got his first camera from his grandmother for Christmas and he was there when I got my first guitar from my parents for my 7th birthday. Years later, we watched each other grow and become successful in our careers, but the seeds of self destruction planted early in him by his parents would eventually come to the surface. After getting slashed in the face by a homeless man while in the South Bronx, it affected him deeply and he grew a beard to hide the scar. That event left more than a mark on him, it altered him to the point that it opened up the Pandora's box of manic depression, drugs and mental instability that would eventually take him away. Joe was more than a good brother, he was a visionary and if time and circumstance were his friends, the world would've seen the true genius that would've emerged with each screenplay and film he would've written and produced. Definitely a Dope Classic from da early , early nineties. Young bucks could definitely enjoy this flick if they're good at taking it to context of the timeframe, if they can't, of course it will be wack to them. I'm an old timer, pushing 50 in a few weeks, and I really enjoy gems from the 40's through the 70's because I, like many can easily take into context. Anyway, Bronx War is epically fresh to me.
