Darling I have to work on this! You are very talented and creative.
Ty so much. I needed a little lift today and you gave me that. X
❤I loves the review, and the fact that most artists I know are left handed 😂!!
Thanks Valentina! 😍
@ 💝
You say you did not find the text useful. For me, the text was vital in understanding the artist's planning and process. The text is one of self-critique and reflection. I was able to appreciate her work more fully even though I an a plein air artist.
Thanks for your comment. You’ve made me think that I might go back and read it again
@@MarionChapmanArtistI liked your video overview of the book. If you DO decide to go back and read it, it might be worth doing a more detailed video on ONE chapter and focus on her text (her thinking) as well ... then have the viewer salivate by stating that there are NINE more paintings similarly dissected in this book. In this book I learned as much about self-critique as about her talent. Again, I did appreciate your overview video. Cheers.
Why do you use alcohol ink? I have them but I’ve been using water colour inks and acrylic ink..
Hi Annie, all inks will penetrate the tissue paper. I find that alcohol inks penetrate quickly. Hope that helps
Such excellent teaching!
Thanks Libby, I appreciate it
Thank you!
My pleasure
Love your technique
Thank you
These are lovely
Thank you
Looks easy, thanks
Ty
I appreciated this video. Since I started doing art (30+ years ago) - I always feel like every piece of art has to be sellable. I am having a tough time changing my mindset towards having fun and experimentation. This video will help with that...thanks for sharing your process.
Thanks Anne! I totally understand. The pressure to have a purpose to your art is logical but it also stems our creativity. Wonderful things happen when we let go of that pressure. I find it hard to stop thinking that I’m wasting paper and paint while experimenting and a sketch book can help with that as it gives us something to flick through and see our ideas flowing and growing.
Thanks for showing so many techniques
My pleasure
Thanks for another interesting vid
My pleasure
That was so fun…. Glad you enjoyed it too… I have missed you too
Thanks Cecilee!!! 😘😘
Beautiful result for some lucky person….thanks have written loads of notes.
That’s cool
Absolutely love what you are making here… how or why did you decide on a green theme? When you say it’s a beautiful paper to write on .. what type of paper is it exactly….is it more than a craft coloured paper?
Great questions. I decided on green because I thought it works coordinate beautifully with the cover. As for the paper, I’m going to re watch it now to see
@@MarionChapmanArtist I noticed you sewed your cover with a long stitch .. did you sew that on after you made the book? I have already sewn my signatures together … trying to find a neat way to put on a cover other than gluing… 🥴
I found the reference to writing in the paper at 12.15. Is 100gsm printer paper and the surface is coloured and smooth. It was stationary type paper that I bought decades ago, lol
I love the stitching method, it makes the cover look interesting and textured too. Here’s my link to my binding method ruclips.net/video/kXMGzQKSLXg/видео.htmlsi=eBAg-JBg60YFKTt3 It gives you a good idea of how I did it 😀😀
Terrific tutorial Marion. Very appropriate follow on. The visual stimulus was a wonderful idea. Watercolour is a magical medium, and there are so many exciting mark making techniques. Thank you for the reminder to practice.🎉
Thanks Judy. I’ve added a starfish to the painting and improved it.
@@MarionChapmanArtist Fabulous 👌
Great info
Glad it was helpful!
Love Jervis bay, I live in Shellharbour. Lovely lesson I don't practise mark making.
I love it too!
Great reminder Marion👌👍🌸
Thanks Cecilee
Many thanks for this great tutorial Marion. These are all important techniques. I think having a page set up that you could just doodle/mark make on when you sit down to paint or even if you have a few minutes spare time would be useful. Practice every day if possible is important.🎉❤
Thanks so much Judy. Love your thinking
Xxx
😀
Sorry for the lack of editing 😊
No problem
Hi thanks for the wonderful information. I’m in Australia too i’m just wondering what beautiful watercolours you have in your pallette 😅 do you have a favourite brand of watercolour paint is MAIMERI BLU it’s beautiful and it stays activated. is you pallet ceramic? It looks like it is. I’ve seen similar on Amazon Australia is that where you got yours from? Once again Thank you for the fantastic art Mark making practice tips happy painting. 🖌️🎨
Thanks so much Jayney. I have 2 brands I use the most, Daniel Smith and Holbein. Yep, palette is ceramic and wonderful. It’s a Stephen Quiller palette. MaMeriBlu is a good brand. 😀😀
@@MarionChapmanArtist thanks Marion happy creating 🎨🖌️👍
Thank you very much Marion 🎉❤❤. Great tutorial. Such a pleasure to watch and listen to. So many ways to embellish prints. I am going to buy a gelli plate. I think I will love using one. Thank you for the inspiration. Cheers 😊
My pleasure Judy. Good idea to buy one. They come in a range of sizes and shapes and are easy to use and small to store. All great attributes that you'll appreciate from a print-maker's perspective.
To think that this is the book that inspired Walt Disney. Incidentally, the illustrations remind me of the "Draw 50" book series by Lee J. Ames.
Inspired Disney! Fascinating, thanks for commenting
This was super interesting
Thanks Anne, I appreciate it.
Marion , thank you so much ! I hope you keep going with the gelli printing and Australian Natives😍😍😍
Hi Lorna, my pleasure, and yes, I'm intending to print more with natives.
Hello again Marion. I'm back yet again to this wonderful tutorial. I am painting with my 14 year old Granddaughter tomorrow. However our painting surfaces are on tissue paper coated with gesso on our watercolour paper. 😊. Should be interesting and fun. Cheers, Judy
Ooh I love that method!! Can I borrow your idea?
@@MarionChapmanArtist please do.
Sorry Marion. I missed this tutorial. Beautiful colours, and fun using ink and crayons. This will be lovely for card making. I love doing several at a time. Cheers 🎉
Thanks so much Judy. Interesting to hear about your card making.
Hello Marion. Yes please i am asking to see the embellishment. You have given me so many things to want to try. This looks like great fun. I was a screen printer many years ago.🎉
Hi Judy, thanks so much for asking! I love that. And how interesting that you were a screen printer - so rare now.
Wow. That looked like lots of fun. It reminds me of my early days in teaching before photocopiers. We used to make gelli pads and stencil straight into their books.
It is and I’m hooked at the moment. How amazing that you used them like that. Xx
Thanks Kelly Great advice! As a big Shirley fan this is a wonderful idea for learning & developing my style & using her books 🙂
You’re welcome
These are beautiful
Thank you
You are incredibly creative
❤
Thank you again Marion. You have inspired me to work on several projects. ❤
Wonderful!!
so useful
Thank you
Great tips Marion, thank you
Thank you
Fab ideas in there, thanks
Thanks
you make it look so easy
Cool
Love how you drew those lines so confidently
Ty
How magic. What a fabulous medium. I can't wait to use the jar l recently bought to convert a canvas so l can paint in watercolours. Thanks for your video. It really gave me food for thought.
Thanks Viv. And thanks for the idea too - it was fun to create.
@@MarionChapmanArtist My pleasure. I enjoyed watching
Thank you again for such an interesting video.
My pleasure Mary
Thank you so much as I do art as a therapy for childhood trauma. I love your doodles.
Thanks so much Mary. Art as therapy is so helpful.
I just love your work and you’re a great teacher. I just love quinacridone pink, fuchsia or pink opera a lot more than red especially with purple. Your trick on laying a purple to prepare the shade area really is a great help for me and I’ll be trying that for sure.
Wonderful! Thanks Jeannine
Winsor Blue has pigment PB 15:3 which is Phthalo Blue Yellow Shade, Winsor Green has pigment PG7 which is Phthalo Green Blue Shade. No? Now they distinguish the shades in the name: Winsor Blue (Green Shade) - PB15:3, Winsor Blue (Red Shade) - PB15 Winsor Green (Blue Shade) - PB7, Winsor Green (Yellow Shade) - PG36 I prefer PB15:3 and PG36
Thanks for the great info!
@@MarionChapmanArtist I forgot to add on my previous comment about your question about a transparent Burnt Sienna. Probably the color is Transparent Red Oxide (PR101), a lovely color that mixes so well with Ultramarine Blue to create a very interesting chromatic black. It can also create very pleasing crimson colors with Quinacridone Magenta. I would also recommend Transparent Yellow Oxide (PY42), a great color to have to darken yellow and for mixing greens. I just watched your video about your palette, I think you would enjoy Indanthrone Blue (PB50), also known as Anthraquinone Blue. This color can create beautiful purples with Quinacridone Magenta and great greens with your yellow or Transparent Yellow Oxide.
A video about PB60, in acrylic inks, but it can give you an idea about this pigment: ruclips.net/video/E2jU_rseYzA/видео.html
@@jc-aguilar I love the idea of transparent red oxide! I'll be sure to find it. thanks again
I love this technique. I have been admiring your hand tattoo...I have several pieces of my own artwork tattooed on my arms and legs....but I have been wanting a hand tattoo....You have inspired me.
Thanks so much Anne. Good luck with your next tattoo
I love it.
Thanks Anne
Love your technique for the trees and how easy you made it. I've been working on my trees for several months and they have improved but I do like yours. Also I like the idea of keeping white in the tree. I also like the quote about "leave space for the birds to fly through."
Thanks so much! Yes, it’s a great quote to think about when you’re painting.
❤
How beautiful Marion. A lovely technique. You are a wonderful teacher and I am glad you are coming back to watercolour. I hope you start to feel better soon. Big thumbs up 👍 🎉cheers, Judy.
