William Holland School of Lapidary Arts began in 1983, and was founded by Harold C. Sparks. At the time, Harold C. Sparks was serving as the eighth president of the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies (sfms), and he was troubled that a school of instruction for the Lapidary Arts did not exist. Workshops were held a couple times a year, but nothing consistent was being offered. Harold and his wife Mary Lou set out to find a mountain top retreat where such a school could be built. Soon his vision became a reality, and today we offer classes in lapidary, jewelry, basketry, and several other art forms as well. He decided he would name the school after the late William Holland, (former third president of the sfms).
Come spend a week or two in the North Georgia Mountains relaxing and learning new skills! Check here for videos about school life, classes we offer, and all the lapidary fun you could imagine!

I have a 6 inch king Cab. Where can I get a “spitter.”
That marker tip is EXCELLENT, I’m a newbie to lapidary but a life-long crafter who’s used that trick for other craft applications and I don’t know why it never occurred to me to try it for lapidary work! Thank you sir, fantastic instructional - your wisdom and insight are much appreciated!
Where can I get the template you have there?
I agree with vapermom! Wonderful demonstration of professional wire work. Would it be possible to share your source for the wire? Best spool size and proportions Ive seen.
Hi, Micah. Thanks for the great videos. What temp do you have the heat press at?
I learned more in this one video than the other 150 jewelry wrapping videos that I've watched before it. No other video explained why things are done, were as meticulous about explaining sizing between wires, measuring, putting the bezel flat in the back, the use of a knife, how tape can be used to help in so many ways, etc. Thank you for being a truly wonderful teacher! PS: I love how you talk to your jewelry!
Beautiful 😍
❤
Thank you for the detailed explanation and nice techniques. It is a great work.
This is just brilliant! I'm new to all of this silver smithing business, but I do some rockhounding whenever I get a free minute, and just this weekend I bought a second hand lortone trim saw and a lortone cabochon grinder with expandable drums, to work some magic on my rocks. After a quick google search on setting stones, I realised that I'm gonna have to do this myself, and now here I am. So grateful that I found this video so soon into my journey of learning. Thank you!
Seriously....who buys that many garbanzo beans?
Persians to Greek, Greek to the romans etc
But you didn’t show how to take them off the drop stick
Thanks.I am wondering what gage back plate and bezel are you using?
Wow this comment section is full of haters and self centered old dude. Great video, keep up the amazing work. Your a master amongst men.
Thank You for Sharing Your Wisdom and Knowledge. Very Enlightening.
Where can I buy very good quality thin saw blades 6in dia. with a 5/8in hole? To cut Jasper
Thought your video was awesome. I picked up a few tips. Great job!
Nice video..❤ thank you
Thanks so much . Do you have the website for the steel blocks ? Thanks
Do you have any online flame painting classes??
Very helpful think you
Please show close-ups of the videos. Thanks
Do you ever use solder?
The ancient puebloians of the American southwest have been doing lapidary, inlay, mosaic, a thousand years before any Spaniards ever showed up! Study a little history please. Have a good day
What would it look like if you just let it tarnish?
great video.,,,for future videos, please refrain from the "uhhhs", and uuhms",,,, ,, very distracting.
Thank you!
Please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but why bother with spending much time at all cleaning up the back? Is this for jewelry where the back might be visible? I'm thinking of lapel pin and bracelets, where the back of the stone is glued to the metal and is completely obstructed from view. In this case don't you just need to remove the wax crudely, or is there some other reason for running it up to/through 600+ grit?
WATCHING AGAIN. WHERE CAN WE PURCHASE BOULDER OPALS AT A GOOD PRICE???
I absolutely love this. Fantastic inspiration
WHy not use superglue and a nail instead of "dop pot" ?
Жалко не понимаю что он говорит
Ok not to be mean but your giving way to much information and not staying on topic. Your talking down to people and the fact that you didn't pick up on that during the editing of this video is telling. Before you get offended and think that you didn't, here's an example of what I mean "its hard to pick things up from a flat surface"
*you're
He is not talking down to people. His audience ranges from beginners to more advanced. As a teacher, you cannot assume that everyone know the basics. Also, the way he did it was not offensive. I happen to like all of the additional information.
*you're giving *too much We all make mistakes. You didn't pick up on your spelling mistakes before posting & normally I wouldn't have pointed them out, but when you criticize someone else, you leave yourself open to criticism. Maybe he always talks as if his class is filled with beginners or maybe he was nervous. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things because he shared a vast wealth of knowledge in a short period of time & I, for one, am grateful for that.
BTW, you also used the wrong "your" (it should have been ,"you're") in the sentence, "Your talking down to people..." which is telling me that you probably always make this mistake.
Love it! 15 years ago i made a bib necklace out of an old standup taco shaped napkin holder that i cut in half.
What thickness copper do you use for earrings and pendants please?
Where did you get your anvil? Great demonstration! Thank you!❤
Great Channel!!
Hey Chuck! I loved learning from and working with Andrea also! You left Indianapolis too soon! Love your video tips and tricks as I continue learning and adding to my skill set!
Thank you for this! The best tutorial I've seen.
Where do you get your templates? All I can find are basic shapes. Thank you fir the videos.. they helped me a bunch.
Great, clear instructions and the camera work was excellent!
But I wanted to see the cabs after he was finished!
How long do those colors last? What do you protect them with? I just love your work. Thanks. I am just learning...at age 76! Yes!
I was trying to make cabs with no instruction, “wonky” is the term I heard most when I was finished. After applying the info here, “wow, nice, is that for sale?” Is all I hear, ;)
I’ve watched your wire wrapping lesson. The only thing I don’t understand is when you used square then round I didn’t catch when you told us which was which and size
look like mookaite jasper, nice looking
Thank you for such a wonderful video! I have learned so much from you!
One of the best videos I have seen on making a cabochon.
Thank you for the video and the inspiration!
