Solar Mobile Meshtastic prototypes after one week outside on only solar power, completely off grid.
Просмотров 78День назад
I have three Meshtastic nodes out on the backyard and two are mobile prototypes. Currently I’m testing the solar draw and observing the charging cycles. I’ve been leaving these devices on and letting them stay connected to each other. I have one node inside that I use with MQTT but all the other nodes are purely RF. The goal of the mobile nodes is to run full time independent of vehicle power....
Part 90 Commercial Gear for DMR or Ham Radio Gear, which should you choose?
Просмотров 451День назад
Comparing the benefits of Part 90 radios versus regular amateur radio gear for DMR. Ultimately I love using both, but there are benefits to using both types of radios. I find myself using my TYT UV-380 with OpenGD77 more often because the radio is dual band and stores more channels per zone. The cost is also a better selling point for me because I don’t have to purchase a separate cable, a newe...

This is a LilyGo Meshtastic Node, the device allows nodes to send and receive message from each other nodes over the 915 MHz band. This is an excellent off grid communications option to remain in contact with others that you can’t call or text in your area. The more users the more robust the net work becomes due to the mesh network setup. www.etsy.com/listing/1800440314/belt-clip-assembly-for-l...

Thank you for the demonstration. I'm interested in M17 and TGIF.
You can use M17 with DroidStar also.
There wasn't any problem with installing? I've seen people had problems with that laptop, i also have this laptop, but I'm too scared to install, never tried linux on pc, but used on Steam Deck and loved it.
UEFI Bios Setting
@SignalSphereFoundation thanks, it is working ❤️
Do you know where you got the file for that tdeck case? I’ve tried a few but that small loop would really come in handy.
That case was made by Spec5. I did not print it.
Exactly what a new to Linux user needs.
Let me know when you’re ready to try it.
I purchased the same setup from Amazon and I cannot get the RPi 5 to boot the WPSD image. I have tried new SD cards and verified the hash; that new RPi 5 boots fine into the RP OS. I have used the RP Imager as well as Balena but same result; what am I missing??
There is a separate image that supports Raspberry Pi5 I would double check the version that you downloaded to make sure it says it supports Raspberry Pi5 specifically.
Do you have any data on signal strength between these two antenna types? Is there any notable difference?
For outdoor/mobile use I would use a high gain antenna rated for 915 MHz specifically.
Hello brother phone name please
It’s a Meshtastic node made by a company called Spec5. It’s not a phone.
I got this to work after few different software purchased on ebay, the problem is I can't get the contact list to download via cpm 16, how did you do it?
I’ve never been able to add the contact list to my Motorolas just the one’s I’ve manually added.
Yeah looks like dmr id is the only thing we see. My hotspot shows the name so still good
I do the same, I use the Dashboard for names and call signs or I view the last heard dashboard.
I have Starlink and it's absolutely awful. The speeds are terrible, especially during peak hours, and it's insanely expensive. It was great a few years ago, but it's clearly not a scalable solution and is being heavily oversold
Thank you for your feedback. I’ve only had Starlink for a couple days.
Thanks, that's cool
You’re very welcome!
The antenna is a 5/8 vertical dipole encased in carbon fiber with an N connector. It weighs almost nothing. The heaviest part is the N connector itself.
You did good on that build. It’s solid and super lightweight.
My ISP was down for several weeks , will be definitely moving to use Stair link Mini as a failover and mobile options as part of a EmComm plan. Great topic here to discuss! thanks for sharing
I’d love to hear your thoughts once you get your device setup.
Hi I am in the UK and just started to experiment with LORA and Meshtastic. Interesting projects. Not many stations or nodes in my area of UK. Only three within 25miles of home. Cheers from the UK. George
Thank you for sharing, as you get your node setup you should start seeing more in your area. I would reach out to your friends and help them get their's setup and get the word out in your area.
Hi, it doesn't work on my raspberry 5 pi-star. I ran WPSD without any problems.Greetings from Poland
Glad to hear! I know you’ll love using the hotspot.
I built almost the exact same setup - same box, USB-powered, different antenna, and used an M8 connector instead of the waterproof cable passthrough. Works great! I 3D printed my own mounting plate for the radio and used a Rak Wireless mini Wisblock starter kit.
You should make a video about it!
#Talk358
Yes!
Great video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it! Thank you.
someone sends me some parts, I will set it up proper. I just haven't had the budget to start new things even though it's not that much money.
Those ranges are wildly optimistic for the average meshtastic deployment.
Agreed, those ranges would need directional antennas and significant elevation for line of sight. Unfortunately I don't have elevation in my favor.
would you mind sharing the use case for that tool?
That device allows DMR radio traffic to go to the internet. Think of it as your personal repeater in your home to access your favorite DMR network.
Really cool tech, I wish such things were avaliable when I was a kid in the 80s/90s. There is an app called FireChat that does mesh with cell phones "shorter distances", but I never tried it. I also heard a few more carriers "Starlink partnering with T-Mobile for one" are going to release satellite to cell services, but you would need a cell phone with that kind of antenna.
I would love to see inside your enclosure, that's sharp!
Coming soon! The prototype is still being worked on but I will have another video soon.
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Worst I’ve seen in 51 years. So much devastation everywhere, don’t even have accurate numbers of lives lost or missing. Glad you all made it through alive.
There’s still a massive cleanup under way. It’s gonna take several months to get rid of all of that. The CSRA as a whole has so many trees down that caused catastrophic damage to major infrastructure, electrical, water, and internet utilities.
Will this work On a 2024 version of tyt md uv380?
Yes it will work on any TYT UV-380
it get 4 views
Yes.
How’d you make out? Maybe share your story.
I did ok, my home was not damaged but I had lots of damage to my fence, shed, swing set, and trash in my pool. Both of my neighbors had trees on their houses.
Good morning, how do I activate ctcss in open GD 77?
CTSS is only an option when you create an analog channel it will be on the same screen you create your channel name and add your frequency. Should be near the power settings, but everything will be on one screen.
Using 3198 on TGIF…Thanks for posting👍
You bet brother.
That’s awesome. Could you make a video on connecting multiple repeaters on EchoLink?
Absolutely!
Yo DUDE? I have my vol level at 50 and can't hear a damned word that You are saying! Good thing that You have CC !!!
Thanks for the heads up. I heard it on my end. I’ll have to make another video.

This was a great video.
Thank you, my Open Spot is working like a champ. I use it in my truck all the time.
That’s something I need to try with my older computer. Thanks for the posting.👍
Definitely worth resurrecting the old hardware. Works just like new.
I have an old Lenovo laptop since 2014 so I decided to install zorin os and it is really good. Works just like a new
I’ve used Zorin in the past, great Distro. I like how you can change the desktop environment on the fly.
I installed Opengd77 on my RT3S soon as I got it. It's now more compatible for amateur radio.
Great to hear! I feel like I got a brand new radio when I changed my firmware. The radio responds so much better to the new firmware. Thanks for sharing.
Thanking you most kindly from England
Thank you for watching.
GD77 makes a good radio great.
Sure does, it’s like a brand new radio all over again.
Going to try to it…. Thanks for posting.👍
I think you’ll really like WPSD, especially the newest version.
Hi, thanks for sharing this I love the form factor Question, how easy to find the cable/software to configure a codeplug?
A micro USB cable will program the radio. You’ll need an actual Motorola Charger for the radio. You may find the programming software CD on eBay. I was able to get it from a vendor that sold used radios.
Thank you I snagged one from ebay hope to use it soon
Excellent, glad you got a good deal. Those radios work well with a hotspot.
I wish they would come out with the iPhone version again…
It is back out I’m currently using it.
testflight.apple.com/join/zQp3HuMs
Thanks for posting, forgot how to do this. Great refresher👍
You’re very welcome sir!
Great DMR radio easily a favorite for concealed carry radio. USB charging, Bluetooth and wireless and sounds louder than most. Thanks for posting.
Sure does, I love that I can still hear this radio even when it’s in my pocket.
BTW, to trigger the backlight, you can just press SK1, that's the only key that has no action (unless voice prompts are enabled). Or define some percentages to Display options "Min bright", like 6%/8%
Thank you, I’ll be doing some more experimenting with the OpenGD77 firmware. I’ve used it for a short time and I’m very impressed by it.
Great desktop radio.
Absolutely, takes up minimal space. I have repeaters programmed into it but I’ve been mainly using it with a hotspot.
Thanks for posting this.
Anytime, more videos about the build coming soon.
You gotta love OpenGD77
The OpenGD77 firmware completely changes the radio. I thought the radio was ok before, but now I love it.
You can change power / zone and other stuffs using some shortcuts (SK2+Up/Down for the power, SK2+select knob for zones). I let you check the user guide for other things.
Thank you
Makes all the difference.
Absolutely, it’s like having a brand new radio.
