Studio Test Jam (Memories, Attitude Song, Pride & Joy)
Here's a little footage of some of my old bandmates helping me test out the studio I've been building. We had some fun jamming some Joe Satriani , Steve Vai and Stevie Ray Vaughan. We haven't played some of this stuff in 20 years, so cut us some slack on the imperfections 🤣

    I wouldn't classify EVH as a shredder. His music had exceptional groove, rhythm, soul, tone; like a great vocalist. Too many players misunderstand what he did

      Spot on the rhythm aspect ... most totally miss that Ed was a phenomenal rhythm guitarist to go along with all his other innovative skill.

    • @Predator27007
      @Predator27007 Месяц назад

      @the9011 people seem focused on speed. Ed had speed, but he talked through his guitar. John McLaughlin hit the nail on the head...Eddie conveyed a story...little bends up and down, micro bends bluesy lilts, rhythm and groove in spades, really unmatched. A sense of humour to his playing and composition....and never a quiet moment....not waiting silently for the next fill or solo. Extraordinary playing. Kent Carlevi, on here, is quite close to Ed....he is sadly missed too...check out his channel....Somebody give me, brilliant.

    This is a massive song with a massive and imposing presence. The title fits it perfectly. You did a great job playing it. I am currently working on my own cover; first Sammy-era tune for me. I find that using a stereo chorus is helpful in covering more of the soundscape for this song. Certainly more lush and complex than the early Ed tones...

    baluchitherium is actually a prehistoric horse looking animal wider and shorter with a long neck! it is more related to a rhino.... it is more a tonal set of movements rather than a song per se.... there are layers but no tonal changes...

    Good job 👌. I'm not a guitar player but have been a long time admirer of the brown sound. I miss the sound I just heard here when I randomly clicked on your video as I was hoping to hear baluchitherium as I remember when I listened to it via CD through my old school boom box. I don't like this tin like sound that comes through via digital stuff on the TV or even my phone. I have always enjoyed more bass that I could adjust and play around with via my so modest equalizer on my mini stereo in 1985 ish. I'm not a groupee. I noticed a huge difference when you were playing and just wanted to let you know how much your playing this solo ( that I remember very well) was appreciated. For what its worth bravo 👏. There never was anyone like Eddie Van Halen and his unique sound most favorite of mine 👂💫💖

    • @GuitarJesse7
      @GuitarJesse7 2 года назад

      That is very kind, thanks so much! I think there’s a few “ingredients”, if you will, that contributed to this cover coming out pretty good. Forgive me for rambling on, but my teacher and analytical side was just reflecting on this a bit and perhaps someone will benefit from these thoughts in their own musical journey. Or at least now I have some additional concepts written out that I can share with my students 😀 1) FAMILIARITY. I’ve known this song since it was released in the 90’s. So even though I had never played it on guitar until prepping for this tribute, I had it in my head and could hum the main parts. If you want to cover a more intricate song like this well, regardless of style, know it in your head first. Then work on getting it out to your hands, feet, voice or whatever your instrument requires. 2) EMOTIONAL CONNECTION. I have a strong emotional connection to this song, I’ve loved it since the moment I heard it. So I didn’t just play it, but I put my heart into it and the added fact that it was a tribute to someone that influenced me provided additional inspiration. That’s not really something you can fake, although I would argue that trying to appreciate a song more and at least pretending you really enjoy playing or singing it will probably still get a better result. 3) NUANCE. What makes an artist like Eddie Van Halen and many others great is their nuance in rhythm, vibrato, various articulations, tone, etc. So when you are trying to cover something well you have to pay attention to those things. Truth be told nuance is what makes any musical performance great- whether you are trying to carbon copy someone’s version of a song, or trying to give it your own interpretation. I heard a great example of this on Rick Beato’s channel where he showed Tori Amos doing a cover of “Smell Like Teen Spirit.” It is so original and sounds so good because it has so much of her unique sound and personality in it.

      @GuitarJesse7 2 года назад

      Hey Biddy, thanks for commenting. So I too was searching for a backing track for a while to make this video and couldn’t find anything. So this is actually the Van Halen track and then I just EQ’d down some of Eddie’s fundamental frequencies and mixed my guitar more dominantly to mask the lead from the original recording. Hope that helps.
