im new to rc and I got the vxl because it says it will go 60 plus mph.. I cant get it anywhere close without it overheating very quickly..

do you still have the same speed and torque with the new setup?? My rustler overheats constantly.. Even with fans and geared down on 3s.. I havent tried it on 2s batteries.. I wanted 3s for the speed an torque though.. ITS DUMB that traxxas says its 3s rated but then says optimal is 2s..

I've had a stampede vxl and a Vorteks 3s......the stampede seemed like a POS...hated that thing. Vorteks is fast, adjustable, more durable....just more fun by far

i have two models. Both same, same motor (Motor Velineon 540XL BL) instead the speedcontroler: VLX-3s and HPI FLUX ELH-6S (up to 6s). The difference in temp is huge. VLX-3s puts significantly more stress on the motor. But the performance is the same. I think the VLX-3s use a higher timing = hot very fast. And you can't change the timing in traxxas speedcontroller. In HPI Flux i can change the time like all chines ESC with programming card. Im not sure why traxxas configure the VLX-3s as it is but i recommend to change the ESC. The motor can't use the output. I can't find any infos about max current but i think not more than 130A for a 2400KV Motor. And the ESC pumps upto 200A to the motor=> the differenc is the heat.

So the new stampedes are pinless shells. Curious if you can just swap the shock towers and slap one of those shells on? I totally agree on the body length for handling though. I just built myself a rustler because I wanted something slightly longer/lower that could run grippier tires without traction rolling all the time.

Did you experiment with changing out the pinion gear prior to going to the 3S? How manageable is it with the 3S? Are you using the TSM at all? About to do the same thing to my vxl. So ready to not have those pins lol. Love the clipless on my rustler so it just makes sense. I ordered the chassis and the towers as I have the rest aluminum parts are universal. Only wished I'd done it forever ago.

I have experienced over heating to the point I ended up replacing the Traxxas ESC to a castle set up on most of my Traxxas cars. Even the 1/16 scale cars suffer from this. I also add heat sinks and fans on everything. I no longer have any issues on any of my Traxxas cars over heating. I can now run any gearing I choose as well.

Solid video man. Got her a vorteks, pink of course, she just putts around for now so Temps aren't an issue. Will say off topic my typhoon 6s has been through hell over the years, doesn't look pretty, also have not broken a single thing on it. Enjoyed watching man, hope you are well. Tom in TN

Yes, rally cars are slow. In a rally race you have to run after it across a stage that can run quite a distance. The last one I set up was over 1/4 mile long. You think you could chase that doing 60mph? or even control it through hairpins?

I dropped my pinion gear to 15 tooth. I can run back to back 6600mAh 120c 3s packs without any substantial heat. It will ride a wheelie straight as an arrow for 100feet. Made this truck much better

Damn mine has been fine. Vorteks and Senton on Boost 5 with Lectron 5200mah 50C battery. Haven't had any issues. The Senton wheels and tires with the black rims are garbage, totally different rubber, a lot softer. Tore one up in 5 secs. The greyish green wheels are best. Vorteks warps the wheels easy. A lot 9f wheel wabble.

Bought a Traxxas Rustler VXL to chase my dog around in the back yard. Needed more speed. Did no research. Put bigger tires and bigger battery, left gears the the same out of the box. Got more speed. Dog loved it. Burned up 3 controllers and two motors. Went back to hitting tennis balls. Dog loves that too. Cans of tennis balls much cheaper than parts for that buggy.
